He's HUGE in the East, specially China. His concerts in Asia in 2008, 2009 filled football stadiums. This is true, you can search up some videos of those concerts on RUclips. Of course by that time he had already been rid of the "alien" appearance, but most Vitas fans like me prefer his human appearance.

This's one of my favorite songs from him. I knew him since 2006 or 2007. I recommended him to my families and friends at that time, but none of them really appreciated him. Some of them couldn't even understand why I liked him and laughed at me. Sadly, I soon found he changed his style to something more traditional (or normal?), which I was not interested in at all. So I stopped following him since then.
Until this year, when stuck in a pandemic, I suddenly remember him and youtube brings me here. After reading these comments, I realize that many people don't like him because they think him weird and alien-like, and his works are scary. Some people laugh at his voice, clothing and gestures. It never comes to my mind that his songs are too futuristic and avant-garde to be accepted by audiences of his time. To be honest, I wondered all these years why he didn't continue his unique style and produce more experimental works like this. Now I understand, maybe this's the reason: the majority of audiences today (even after 20 years of this masterpiece) are not ready to understand and admire his talent and his work. I found someone said in Russia, he before, and today is not very popular and another comment asks why Russia didn't export him so that any other country would have been glad to have him. Well that's the point: I don't think he would be welcomed as today in those years by people in any other countries.
Fortunately, younger generations are more open-minded and more welcome unordinary things than ever before. I can see more people know him and favor his works (although some begin from meme). But for him, that's a bit too late. He's already in his 40s and not as creative as he used to be.

I can hardly believe I'm saying this but weird Russian tongue guy is actually pretty good. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to admit it to anyone but at least he's different than any western musician. His falsetto thing is a little hard to take in some of his tunes but I find myself listening to this one more than I would have expected. He could probably stand to lay off the drugs so he's got that in common with American pop stars.
Michael Wille Its as fake as can be. you can hear the autotune and most of it is a triggered clip wich is notable because some of the harder parts are identical. But only as far as i know i guess.
Technical artifice is employed in the creation of all pop music. A list of artists who don't use samples and tuning software would be very short indeed. As a music producer myself it's interesting to hear opinions of what denotes authenticity when, in reality, almost every aspect of every pop music performance is contrived. The ends are all I care about as a listener. I have professional interest in the means only to the extent I would want to produce similar results. So, to put it simply, I don't care how the performance was achieved and neither should you. All that matters is if the end product is entertaining. To me, it is. Bat-shit insane, but entertaining. (Of course, the above applies only if what you're saying is accurate and I have no reason to believe it is. I've seen the videos and found them unconvincing.)
