I think the idea is that you already have this stuff Ofc most people don't have a welder laying around, but if you were the type of person to actually make these sorts of things then you would already have one

If you only plan on using it a few times and tossing it, then I'm sure it's fine. But if you are planning on getting years of use from it, chances are it will break sooner than later.
@@yourdrummer2034 probably not due to tack welding it. probably the soft bolt (the pin bit) will mushroom out and render the tool useless. i think in this application tack welding is the way to go. keeping the work a bit cooler and the welds are not under a lot of strain. and nobody's gonna get killed if the weld fails... yes, i do know how to weld. this is not a tool that will outlive the welds.
@@funkysod I agree with you on many of the things you said, but you can still weld this correctly without jogging or stacking tacks. The less homogenous the weld and weld area is, the more likely you will have cracks propagate from the questionable spots (holes at the edges of tacks, and the crater in the middle of each tack). 95% of the time, cracks will almost always start in the wrinkly crater at your stops, and run straight through the weld. 1 crack appears and it's 100% chance the whole weld fails.

Chain link separators are not expensive at all. And you don't have to weld a new handle on everytime you want to change tip sizes....just buy it. If you already have a welder, and work on chains often enough to bother having a tool, and not just using a punch, just buy the tool.
Idk folks, usually the pressure needed to pop the pin required a harder pin than the one you're pushing. Edit: I don't actually see the pop of the pin in the video because they did that on a bench with a drift pin.
1.chains have hardened steel, you really think a bolt that was grindes down is harder than the chain. 2.once he removed the chain U can see he drill it out.
I could only see this working in small chains. The heavier the chain the more force it’s going to take to pop that link out and you’re going to end up bending that tool.

Good idea if the chain cooperates. My chain pins were harder than my Cycle Gear Chain Tool and it deformed the pin of the tool without moving the chain pin. Went to a high quality chain breaker.

В своё время часто приходилось заниматься с цепями, не с мотоциклетными, а от оборудовпния. Снимать и ставить специальные звенья, к которым крепятся разные поводки. Ну а тут хреновый болт, да еще обгорел на болгарке, этот конец мягкий. А ось сидит плотно. И бородок нужен весьма крепкий.

Bro you can buy one cheaper then making one. They sell for like 10 bucks on Amazon. You need steel tube and a welder with gases as well as a tool. I can't see this saving any money
Thoes cheep tools you can get look like they will do a good job I've had 3 of them 2 were from bell and another one was from some weird company but not one broke the chain 2 broke that little pin and the other one broke where the chain got pressed up against
That’s a tool you will use once and next time you take it out it’s so rusted you won’t be able to use it Then you gotta either make another spend 20min cleaning rust and getting it lose Just buy the right tool for 10 bucks and it won’t rust on you

Не знаю от чего эта цепь, но что то мне подсказывает, что должны быть нормальные заводские решения, такие же как "выжимки" для велоцепи

Pins on these chains are hard steel. That pointed pushing screw will be bent and beat in no time.
With that wall thickness , it will bends easily
Then add supports to it
