Why couldn’t Helen say to Renee; “Ken and I are divorced, you can’t live in MY house”. Ken and Helen are divorced and he thinks he and his parents can move in her house? Seriously?

If she had said she and Ken were divorced right away, it would have been a very short story so that’s why it was dragged out to increase the word count.😏
Unfortunately, some people like to beat around the bush, without telling straight facts. That's why 5 minute meetings can last over an hour.

It’s interesting that where you live families have to take care of family members depts. Glad that family figured things out. I would hate to be responsible for family members wrongdoings. Not in my family, but others. I guess that’s why they get into family members business so much.

It is not trespassing, it is breaking and entering.
Maybe the door was unlocked. Admittedly a mistake when you know there are people trying to gain access, but it would mean there was no break in.

It's just insane that Renee and Ken don't understand that when you get DIVORCED, that's it, you are no longer welcome around here. Guess it's easy to see where Ken gets his intelligence from
She didn't need to give him her address. He could send it a family member or mutual friend. Bet the "stuff" doesn't even exist. Or she likely would have noticed things missing. Then of course she has to play the "I refuse to say we divorced to try to straighten out this overbearing no longer mil." She kept not saying anything while being berated and threatened. It makes her waiting so long sound like an excuse. She knew he was refusing to call them divorced and saying she is still his possession. So she encouraged this mess. And then she continues to argue with the woman. All completely unnecessary.
No mention of Helen's relationship with her former FIL. In real life a phone call to him could put on the brakes.

Why on earth did the description describe the house as a mansion, it has only three bedrooms?!!! I live in the English countryside in a 26 bedroom home, that is a mansion.
In Japan, a three bedroom house would be considered a mansion… Since their homes are microscopically tiny
