    Today I'm leaving Lamai on the south side and heading to Maenam on the north side of Koh Samui. The plan is to use Songthaew's all the way.

    Loving the look of Fisherman’s Village. Look forward to seeing more when you head to the night markets.

    Thanks for this.
    A solo traveler, of advancing age -- I've been to Samui a few times -- a regular visit when in Thailand. So far, I've always stayed in Maenam. Side trips to nearby, Fisherman's Village, Bophut, etc., but that's been about it.
    In particular I was interested in exploring options for visiting other parts of the island by connecting songthaews, rather than taxi.
    Looking at Maenam as a primary "home base" during longer stays.
    Lamai, Chaweng, etc. seem like nice places to visit, but looking more for a calm place to retreat to -- with the options of the nearby airport for further short-term excursions elsewhere.
    Of everywhere I've been in southern Thailand, this seems to suit me best.

      I'm a solo traveler at age 60yrs and found Maenam and excellent alternative to other locations on Samui. Maenam is very relaxed and a great place to chill, reflect and slow down and the best part is, if you need more action just take a Songthaew somewhere.

    The price from Lamai to Chaweng is 22 baht. Sometimes there is bus fares table. You can take a photo and autotranslate it with google translate app.

    Really enjoyed following you on your travels today. The transport reminds me of the old bemos in Bali

    So it’s not like Pattaya or jomtien? 10 or 20 bhat hop on hop off? Seems like they just jack up the price at will seeing a foreigner !

      That's right, you need to ask the driver how much and then negotiate a price.
      Pattaya is great for getting around and cheap.

    Great video today, many years since I was there, really must get back, are there still tuk tuks around?

      @AsiaStreet365  Год назад

      No tuk tuks anymore, best advice would be to hire a motorbike for transport as you can hire one for 4-8 dollars a day.

    Seen more Westerners on todays vid, than the rest put together!
    Nice beer spot too at Fisherman's Village!
    So how much did you end up paying for the last ride? You offered 100?
    Hope you found your place!
    Cheers

      All up its was around $16 from the south to the north of Koh Samui. I think that's expensive however a taxi would have been double if not more.

    Could anybody tell me whats the price for songthaew ride from maenam to choengmon ? Thx

    • @AsiaStreet365
      @AsiaStreet365  Год назад

      They would try and charge you 400 or more and I'm not sure that a songthaew would even do this route. Best way would be a taxi and they would charge you even more.

    So how much did you pay for a ride from Fisherman's Village to Mae Nam Walking Street?
    And why is transportation so expensive on Samui? It's the very reason why we never left the Mae Nam Beach area when we stayed there for a week earlier this month (but the other reason being it's too hot to go anywhere during daytime this time of the year). I regretted I didn't bring my car when I took a Samui-bound Ferry from Bangkok last month. But then upon seeing your video, I felt I'm convinced we didn't miss out much by not leaving Mae Nam... 😌🥹

      From memory I think the driver charged me 50 baht, oh yeah, when it's hot, stay on the beach or by the pool. I stayed days in Maenam and never left the area, I just love that place.
