Same, I was starting to doubt my memory of this song because it had been so long since I heard it last. Cool to hear it was close to what I remembered.
Finally saw this live in Halifax 2023 and was the most amazing live experience I’ve ever had for electronic music. Pioneers for sure! Thank you thank you for your dedication brothers!!!!!
I saw them perform Satan live at Organic 1996 at Snow Valley in Big Bear. I never heard the song prior to that and today was my first time hearing it again. 😈
How times have changed. If the self titled album was released today this pt3 b-side would be a bonus track as well as any other live tracks on a deluxe edition. This song is so good that no one would get the standard edition. I prefer the six minute full length version of the song but as I understand it it is only available on vinyl.
This track is simply immense. You can thank the Butthole Surfers for the intro. Sweat Loaf from Locust Abortion Technician. Probably one of the most bizarre and brilliant albums I own.
I think I remember catching this on the Later With Jools Holland tv show. It may sound strange but one of the things that has stuck in my memory all these years from it is the imagery of the barking dog on the screen behind them towards the end.
Watching this performance going out on Later with Jools Holland all those years ago, was like a lightning bolt of excitement going through me (especially so, as a teen living in a rural backwater!)
I can still mentally picture, with total recall, where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard John Peel play 'The Box'. Even though I was already a big Orbital fan, I didn't realise it was them until the track finished. Amazing tune.
На Урале люди говорят: сначала подумай 10 раз, а потом уже делай.Я понимаю эту музыку как страшную шутку,вот и все.Моменты есть очень интересные! Это серьезная электронная музыка.🇬🇧
I remember in my twenties 2 Jehovah's witnesses were coming down our street knocking on doors...i stuck this song on full blast........they just walked by my house lololol
AMAZING TRACK! THAT`S a groove!! The main bass seq clearly reminds me the great soundtracks by Jasper Kyd !! (Sub-Terrania, The Adventures of Batman and Robin, Red Zone ...)
You're making a mistake if you're listening to this on youtube, it has only mono-channel, you really need stereo - there is so much more depth in this track...
Whoever reads this is going to think I made this up. I didn't I swear... I used to live above a Rock/Metal pub (I was the manager) in a city centre. One Sunday afternoon, a local God botherer started shouting his nonsense on a P.A. system. I was on my day off and went and asked him nicely if he could move away from my window as he was offending me. He replied with "the word of god is always offensive". I suggested he move once more. He didn't. I stuck my floor standing pioneers and my subwoofer out of my window and turned this song up to 11! He fucked off and I got a standing ovation from the staff of Cash Generator next door!
@@replicaacliper Yeah sure but it's application and sound is very varied, this sounds just like the NWA beat. Sorry for the 5 year delay in responding, lol.
Because they did this in 1991! There barely even were proper "genres" of electronic music, at the time? So if other things in the genre sound like this, it's because these Hartnoll boys here helped define the genre.
@@jeffwilkinson4400 I didn't know this was a video from 1991. Interesting. I know there were several electronic artists who put out things in the 70's and 80's (a lot on cassette with only a very limited run) but it was more laid back, not stuff with the heavy beat of today. It's the beat (to me) that makes it all become so similar and tiring. So, I think you would understand my comment now if it WAS something recent but since it is from the early 90's I now see that at that time it would have been somewhat fresh. Thanks.
Hardware stores used to carry them, but I haven't checked in years. The version I used to have had a battery in the temple of each ear piece, so that when you put them on your head, the contacts at the hinges would close, and they would turn on. I'm more of a "headlamp with a red setting, worn around the neck" kind of guy these days, but whenever I see the boys with them on, I want another pair.
This is one of those songs that will forever run on repeat in my head

I concur and im and old fart (60), well said
Why would not sound just as good? I mean, it cannot slowly rot away.
just woke up and thought of the opening of this song, 30 years after I last listened to it.....wow
This happens to me sometimes and the music turns better
Same, I was starting to doubt my memory of this song because it had been so long since I heard it last. Cool to hear it was close to what I remembered.
"Hey mom, dad wanted to tell you *gasp * SATAN!"
Sample of the Butthole Surfers song "Sweat Loaf".
This song reminds me of @equus001, in their younger years of course!
Hearing that Orbital got their first chart position in 24 years just made me have to look for this!

I prefer the longer 7 minute version which was released on the Orbital III single reissue in 1995.

I have the "Saint" vinyl single that has that version on the B side.

Fairly certain the video is from Later with Jools Holland.
Yeah, and thank god Jools Holland didn't get to add any of his "delightful" piano stylings to this epic track.
