Yes, this video was AI generated. Ren worked with the same guy who has done all of his animated videos. They filmed the walking sequences in Calgary Alberta Canada. He wrote the first part of the song over a year ago. He said it felt incomplete. But it wasn’t until after he started talking again about his friend Joe Hughes in recent interviews that he felt inspired to record an ending. Specifically it was after his interview with Knox Hill, but he also talks about the recording and post-production process at the end of his interview with Rosalie (1:11:25). He got a call from a mutual friend that Joe was on the bridge saying his goodbyes. Ren ran as fast as he could and was the first to arrive, but minutes too late 😿 It’s been 10 years, but the pain and the guilt don’t go away easily. He struggled with his own thoughts of suicide because of his health battles (first part of the song) but talking about Joe again allowed him to focus on the loss and regret from that night. They never found the body. But he raised money from the release of this song to support the RNLI in Anglesey Wales who led the search and rescue efforts. I don't think Ren's mentally unstable - I think he's experienced it (including psychosis) but that was largely down to misdiagnosis and mistreatment of the Lyme disease he contracted after being bitten by a tic.
So glad you have come back to @renmakesMusic …as some one who has subscribed for years as XO. I also have misdiagnosed Lyme so I get REN’s journey. But nothing or no one can feel what he is expressing unless you have sadly lost someone to S ******e like he lost his best friend Joe who jumped from a bridge as Ren and others tried to get to him. Great reaction! This one has been hard for me. I have dealt with depression for most of my life and much of what has kept me here is the realization of how it would hurt those I love. The second half of this song is brutal but it is also a good reminder of how it hurts those left behind. Musically, it's another masterpiece! The video is beautiful as well. When your in it, you don't even know.. Over 15 years ago, I'm 34 now, I was staring at a steak knife that I brought to my room. I my thought was to just try and hack my hand off, f a cut. kinda texted friends saying good bye without actually saying it. I took a breathe and my phone kept ringing. Buddy said to come outside. This person thought they were helping me. All it did was take me out of the current situation because once I got to his house and him and others when to sleep. I knew I had to finish what I started, but all I had were these tiny little metal things that like held socks together. I started thrashing at my arms, but would barely make cuts not even deep enough to be considered cat scratches. I cried myself to sleep only to wake up the next day with a new outlook of the realization of the situation. that strong S word is never the answer sometimes if no one can help you...
