OMG guys I recommend this 100% I made the regular potato chip flavor and added some lemon pepper seasoning and I mircowave 4 mins on each side and I showed my family. My dad loved it and said it tasted like the real lays potato chips, my mom hesitated and though I undercooked it, but when she tasted it she fell in love. My sister (she's 3yrs ok) LOVED it and ate a bunch. They were all super impressed at how a 11 year old made such good food. If you are hesitating about making this, MAKE IT. It is awesome and you will be begging for more!!

I initially just used a plate like you do but then I bought one of those racks and have used it ever since. I don't know if they still sell them as many microwave gadgets are hard to come by now.

Mine took a long time as well and my microwave is 1250w. They were good. I used my misto to get the oil on them but then I brushed them to make sure it was coated well and sprinkled with some Himalayan salt. Yummy.
Great recipe. This works. I tried a similar recipe. Two notes: In a 700 watt microwave, I needed 5 minutes on the first side and 3 minutes on the second. Also, we can save time by putting oil on the parchment paper and then oiling the top of each chip. This way, we don't need to flip each slice. I look forward to trying her flavor mixes!
For anyone wondering, I use a Mandolin and works great too. After drying them i put them all in a bowl and season with lil olive oil, salt, garlic and paprika. Toss them and done. The brush will take too much time because I am always in a hurry to eat them. 😂 personally don't turn the potatoes. I add them directly on a plate without the baking paper. On my 800w microwave is 6min.
if you sprinkle them with sea salt before cooking then sprinkle with powdered white vinegar after cooking youll get sea salt and vinegar mmmm my favorite

Hi Gemma, I have been making these for well over 30 years but I sprinkle vegetable salt on them before cooking them in the microwave. It gives them a really lovely flavour. Thought you might like to try the vegetable salt on them. I have never used oil on mine as I find you don't need it. My family and friends love them but they take ages to make of you have too many people over. They are a special treat. 😊
Now that I'm 80, (and in total isolation) I can't simply grab a bag from the shop I have to-----slice; soak; dry; lay out; oil; turn; oil again, cook; turn, and eventually........(wait for it)! Just made these - AMAZING!! And, I did use a mandolin - worked out great. My microwave is 1000 watts so I did the first side for 2.5mins and the other side for 2mins. I also lined the turntable itself with parchment paper - that way I could get more chips on it. Worked like a charm. Thank you!
Thanks. Would you mind telling me what it was that didn't work? I'm trying to wrap my head around it but the only thing I can think of is that the mandolin was faulty somehow?? Also I have another tip, instead of brushing the potatos on both sides with oil you could just put them all in a bowl of oil and only then place them onto the plate . Its a great recipe you have but my brain always wants to do everything more efficiently and lets be honest, it takes a lot of time to make your own potato chips regardless! Hope I'm not annoying!! Another idea is to use sweet potatoes and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or pumpkin pie spice! It's sounds strange, but trust me, they're delicious:)

I think the trick might be to let them dry out longer. The ones that sat on the counter longest after I patted them dry turned out better, crispier.

Just made these - AMAZING!! And, I did use a mandolin - worked out great. My microwave is 1000 watts so I did the first side for 2.5mins and the other side for 2mins. I also lined the turntable itself with parchment paper - that way I could get more chips on it. Worked like a charm. Thank you!

Yes, but make more and add flavors first, 200C/400F for about 10 - 15 mins :)

I tried using a mandolin, I don't understand why you aren't recommending using that. It makes it 10 times quicker to slice the potatos.

Thanks. Would you mind telling me what it was that didn't work? I'm trying to wrap my head around it but the only thing I can think of is that the mandolin was faulty somehow?? Also I have another tip, instead of brushing the potatos on both sides with oil you could just put them all in a bowl of oil and only then place them onto the plate . Its a great recipe you have but my brain always wants to do everything more efficiently and lets be honest, it takes a lot of time to make your own potato chips regardless! Hope I'm not annoying!! And thanks for this cool recipe!

Your way, can also cause the potatoes to get extra starchy. Have you tried making them either way? She made crisps for ONE, for fucks sake.. I have a mandolin, not whipping it out for one potato. I have an urge to slap you. 😲😎
