Wow. My local farmer in Kentucky just started offering chicken feet today. I've been really into stir frying lately, and now it's like a sign that I need to advance my Chinese cooking skills to something even more super authentic Chinese cuisine. Thank you for your recipe! It looks easy, the sauce looks really delicious, and I am going to look into getting some chicken feet this weekend.
For those who think this is too weird, don't knock it until you try it. If you think the skin is the best part of the chicken, you'll love this. It's great.
I noticed that a lot of elderly Chinese ate chicken feet as their thinking was that the gelatin in the chicken feet helped with arthritis. I'm very interested in food as medicine as I am Native American Indian and during certain times of the year, we, my tribe, forages for edible plants, roots, etc which we use as seasoning, side dishes as well as medicinal purposes. Personally, I simply adore chicken feet at the Dim Sum restaurant and I can't get enough of them! Thank you for this recipe!
So we go out for dim sum 2 or 3 times a month-HK Café in PDX. The same woman who has served us for years always puts the items we like on our table from her cart. A few years ago she put chicken feet on our table and told me “you must try-“. She taught me how to eat them and said it was OK to place the bones back on my plate. Though I am the only one who will eat these in my family, she gives me my own “special plate” of chicken feet every time we go to HK which I simply can’t resist now. They are truly wonderful. I had no idea how hard they were to make until now. Thank you for this, and all of your recipes! Steve K.
I had chicken feet at a restaurant in Chinatown Las Vegas, DELICIOUS! NEXT time just ordering chicken feet and rice and hot tea, only because I get full so fast and they're so good!🤤😘
I had these at a Chinese restaurant in the 1980's and they were great. I then told my mother (white, poor, grew up on a farm) and she said they would eat chicken feet when they slaughtered the chickens and her older sister was great at cooking them. That would have been in the 1940's and 1950's and likely her sister learned the recipe from her mother so it goes back a long way. But I don't hear about it in modern Western recipes. It's kind of cool to discover some food history. I did notice the other day that my local grocery has started selling chicken feet though. We have a large Filipino and Korean population so it was probably more for them. But who knows? I wonder if I can find an old Western recipe for them or get more info from my mother or aunt.
Sounds interesting I'm guessing it would be like almost a chicken wing I would love to give it a try but my family is not very adventurous with that kind of stuff
This is one of my very favorite dim sum dishes, but I never really thought about trying to make it because I assumed it would be too much work, but I think I will have to try it at home. The only problem is that it might make me eat too many! They're so rich, and even better with some fresh rice.
When my daughter was in second grade her class had a field trip with lunch at a dimsum restaurant and she decided to order some chicken feet and share them with a friend just to freak out the rest of the class 😂 I think they had some duck feet too.
Mandy. When I was in college, I was the International Student Host. One of my Malaysian friends made this recipe and brought it to our International Dinner at my home. It was soooooooooooooooooooo delicious! Thank you. Now I can make it myself. Can you share with us sometime....a Turtle Soup or recipe containing turtle???? I've had that too. It also is delicious.
Well thought out and excellently done video. Loved the comparison of the results from the various preparation methods. I too find it too much trouble to make at home so I always count on Dim Sum restaurants to satisfy my cravings.
Thank you very much for sharing this to us, you’re a good cook and the way you demonstrate the food that you cook were so clear and very informative👍😍 God bless you always🙏👍😍
Thanks, Mandy for shining a light on your Authentic Version of Black Bean Sauce Chicken Feet with many Helpful Tips. In the olden days, I loved Chicken Feet Soup from the restaurant and recalled telling my mother eat up all the chicken feet because I only wanted the broth. LOL! BTW, your hair is gorgeous! 💜
This recipe is a keeper and the perfect flavor for me. I'd rather cook it myself and have more whenever the craving comes up. I love that there is an option to air fry, definitely less messy than deep frying.
Hey there Mandy made these yesterday following the recipe exactly except for the Chuhou paste and red yeast... they were awesome!!! Some might say succulent:) Tried a couple of other quick n easy recipes in the past but this was what I was craving and they didnt disappoint... its a keeper! I laughed you talking about your mom buying from the deli ... I didnt have that option. Next time Im going to make alot extra and freeze them per your suggestion. Thanks again for sharing your recipe... I started to follow and have used numerous recipes of yours... you're my go to for Chinese cuisine thats for sure and you've never disappointed! Thanks again.
I absolutely LOVE chicken feet. A small Szechuan restaurant had a buffet-style lunch where one could choose 3 dishes from the variety they had laid out. I ALWAYS got the spicy chili-covered chicken feet; they were delicious and rich. Sadly, my wife is not so adventurous, so we didn't go often, and I recently learned that the restaurant didn't survive the pandemic. We are considering an air fryer, and I would love to try this dish.
i looove chicken feet! can you do cantonese curry? how is it different from Indian/Thai/Japanese curry? i love curry and I remember eating a cantonese curry beef tripe
Mandy I followed this recipe, I never made at home before. Fantastic I ate so.much. thank you so much great recipe and I enjoy your channel very much 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
the collagen that you ingest from the chicken feet is good for the skin! Also chicken feet has a more firm fatty type of texture. It's pretty darned good!
I remember being in Walmart one time and they had chicken feet. It was their own store brand, but the packaging said Chicken Paws. I still giggle about that whenever I think about chickens and their little paws. 🤣
I was too 'chicken' to enjoy the dim sum chicken feet over 20 years ago with my colleague and her family, though I was in great company. I would most definitely eat them today the next time a dim sum date pops up. There're so many plates to enjoy. Oy vey with the vinegar and the chili oil, etc, it's overwhelming. I love the strong flavors, all of them. Sidebar: A long now retired sushi chef once read me well, he said, "you like it fatty and you like it strong". Me: Yes sir, those six orders of nigiri and a cold pint or two of Sapporo will make me a very happy lady 😊 Let's face it, chicken feet might not be the most visually appealing thing on anyone's plate to enjoy, however, I'd bet a quarter, they'd be enjoyed. If you can eat a chicken wing clean, there shouldn't be much other than more fatty yummy pickings here..
Having been raised on a farm with several hundred chickens, my sister, and I gathered eggs every day and watched those chickens walk-in manure and dirt. When I see the feet, all I can think of is what they walk through. I’m betting if I tried them I would like them, but I just can’t even think about what it would take me to put chicken feet in my mouth. L O L.
Thanks for much for all your efforts for "weird" ingredients. Some might not appreciate it but I do. 🤣 I'm seeing more and more chicken feet in the grocery stores.
It’s hard to convince people to try something they didn’t grow up eating. However, I applaud those that do. My family and I came from Perú and we eat Chinese style Chicken feet, as well as beef hearts, pigs feet, intestines, tripe and even Guinea Pig. All are very delicious!! Again, I was brought up eating those meals. Perù’s diverse gastronomy is quite something. We were influenced by the indigenous Inca, invasion of Spain and Arab (Moors), Slaves of Africa, China and Japan cultures that have been intermixed throughout the decades.
I LOVE chicken feet, but everytime I eat them at Yum Cha- I get weird looks from other non-Asians and the Asian customers (and restaurant staff too) often give me surprised looks when I eat the chicken feet!🤷♀️😂🥰🥰
LOL!!! Mandy, I love that you're doing everything to convince us 外国人 to eat chicken feet, but I put chicken feet in the same class as 丑豆福. Neither will ever pass my lips, haha.
Hi Mandy! Rizal from Singapore. Love those Lee Kum Kee bottles!! Good to know that I can easily find them here. I have a question. If I can't use the Chinese cooking wine to boil the chicken feet, is that okay? Thank you for your sharing!!!
Hi Mandy! First want to thank you....my husband & I absolutely love every single one of your recipes that we have ever tried! Unfortunately, living in a moderately remote area, sometimes gives great difficulty obtaining what one might otherwise consider a fairly simple ingredient (& even more difficult when perishable...I think you can likely relate) so just wondering, if anything can be substituted here (w/o too much compromise in taste) for the chicken feet? Sadly, even with the still all too recent coming of amazon to the area, it remains too much in its beginning stages (much like the US version of it back in the late 80s/early 90s😨) so nothing like what many other areas with a more "established" amazon enjoy today. Any advice/suggestion is definitely appreciated, even if it means there just is no substitute so not worth trying for this particular recipe (sadly it wont be the 1st time w/similar experience) Thank you so much, & please keep up your great work!!
This recipe would work with chicken wings, but probably only the flat and definitely the tip for a similar experience of eating around the bones. The drumette might get too dry however. I'd probably halve the steam time, as the skin on the wings is more delicate than the feet. You'll be missing out on the gelatinous tendons of the chicken feet, but otherwise the flavours would be very similar, and you'll end up with fall off the bone chicken.

It's 2022
I only like chicken skin when it's super crispy I hate moist wet chicken skin I think it's gross
Yeah no I'll pass. Lol to each their own
I mean, in england they eat 'pork trotters' which is pig feet, it's not that weird after all! I'd try it.
@@tylociraptor8131 the thing that's weird is that others think it's weird to value animal life

At this point I just automatically save your recipes before I even watch the video. You’re the best!!!!
Mandy, you have your own style. Just your pleasantries and presentation are enough to make one try chicken feet. And I love dim sum.

That’s awesome !
My granny made chicken feet and rice, but I don't know anyone who makes that anymore.
Sounds interesting I'm guessing it would be like almost a chicken wing I would love to give it a try but my family is not very adventurous with that kind of stuff
Chicken feet are used often in Eastern European countries (Poland, Hungary, Ukraine) for soups and “jellied” entrees (aspic)
@@slgrib what do they taste like

This is one of my favorite dishes when we go to St. Louis to have Dim Sum on a Sunday morning. Thank you Mandy for sharing this recipe!
I used to cook this dish but I never use black beans in the recipe...so gonna try this method nxt time.. thanks for the recipe Mandy...

This is one of my favourite dishes, I was raise from being 1-6 in an eastern part of china and this was my favourite thing, like ever!
my family is guyanese and we usually eat chicken feet in curry or stewed, its very good. I really want to try out this recipe 🥳🥳
It looks so delicious! It uses various spices and is very appetizing!
The color is amazing. Putting the red rice powder on my shopping list😁. Thank you Mandy. Have a beautiful day😍💞🐲

Sounds like something people in the south would be all over. But I tell you, looks really good for chicken feet.
I've only ever had chicken feet in soup. 🍲🥰
I have some in the freezer and I'd love to try this but it looks so time consuming.🥰 😋🤤 🤔
i looove chicken feet! can you do cantonese curry? how is it different from Indian/Thai/Japanese curry? i love curry and I remember eating a cantonese curry beef tripe
I made this at home and it tasted better than at my local dim sum. This truly is amazing, thank you very much!
Amazing show thank you for sharing Mandy. I would of never guess that chicken 🐓 feet took so long to make. Beautiful job have a great day.
I grew up eating chicken feet at dim sum, it’s DEFINITELY my fav dim sum offering!!
Marvellous.
Your explanation about the taste and flavours literally made me taste it.

My local Walmart sells chicken feet and they are also labeled "chicken paws" lol I'm sure there's an explanation but I can't imagine what it is
😂
You're awesome, Wendy. Will give your recipe a try. Thank you. ❤
Thank you.
I have all the ingredients.
Love your nice kitchen. I seen you since your 1st video with a small toaster oven💖
I don't think I'd be able to eat this but if you made some for me I'd at least try it! :D
Chicken feet are so good 🤤. I was hoping you’d make a video for it sometime. Now I’ll have to make them with this recipe 😁
Thank you dear Mandy! Wow!...much more involved and time consuming than I would have guessed!
I love them at dim sum. The flavour is fantastic. Thx for recipe.

I have been eating fung zao for 20+ years. I order these with Dim Sum all the time. 😋
Just recently made chicken feet bone broth. Have to give this a try. Trying to diversify the my meat and eat more nose to tail.

Love it! Thank you for sharing❤
I remember having Cantonese deep fried chicken feet and I was surprised how much I liked them, the skin fell off the bone and was very moorish.
Always wonder how this dish is done. Mystery solved. Thanks Mandy. I agree this is a labor of love dish lol

do you eat the bone ? or just the skin ? looks gorgeous x
This is what I’m waiting for🤗♥️ Thank you fpr your recipes😍
The only chicken feet I've ever eaten😍😋
Didn't know it was cooked this way. Yummy
Chicken feet are amazing period! 😋👌
Hello Mandy how are you i think I'm going to cook this on the weekend.
I love these but so many steps!!!

Hi! How long were the chicken feet boiled in the aromatic water? Thanks!
just bring it to a boil and remove from the water
@@SoupedUpRecipes Thanks always, Mandy....
Yummy thank you so much, you are right if the restaurant doesn't have any feet it's not legit 😋 😜
I love this dish. Thank you
Hi mandy, do you think this recipe could be used one on one on Chicken wings? Thanks for all your great recipes, best regards Felix
Yep, I would halve the steaming time, and only use flats and tips. The drumettes might get too dry.
😋 😋 😋 I always have Chicken Feet at Dim Sum restaurants. Now I can make this at home !
Now i'm hungry...looks delicious.
Do you think I can replace the red yeast with sweet paprika?
These look delicious!
Feet make great soup, too. Very common ingredient in Polish & Hungarian kitchens
We waiting on your book! Do you have plans on making one?
Couldn't eat feet, tbh don't believe where I could get them in the UK, but appreciate your skills
These look ridiculously good!
Honestly when I go to dim sum nowadays i just get 2 order chicken feet for myself and it is suitable for me
I got my recipe again for my everyday menu
Are chicken feet good for making chicken stock?
Definitely
I love chicken feet but can u try cooking peking duck with crispy skin cause i tried it in hong kong
Is was there in 80's
Can you place a whole lemon cut in half into the boiling stage?
I’ll die a hungry man before I eat this.
I love chicken feet but never tried to make it myself. I gotta try this recipe now! Chicken feet is my favorite dim sum dish.
Awesome yami!!!👌👍😀
💜👍💜👍 many thanks for the video💜👍

I've always been intrigued by this dish. It always looks so delicious, it's just getting past the concept :) You only live once, right?
can I use honey,instead?
Muito bom
I totally did not throw one of the feet at my little cousin because she is scared of them 😂
My fav 😘😘😘
Awsome
Chicken feet are soooo goood
