    The engineers that designed this engine making it so HARD to replace a simple alternator should be taken out back and shot. There is absolutely NO reason you should have to take 1/3 of the engine apart for a simple replacement part like this!!!! Absolutely rediculous!~!!!!

    As a non-mechanic, these videos make it so much easier to appreciate the amount of labor that goes into this.... I thought it was insane to have a 4 hour labor just to get to the alternator..... now I believe it.

    • @Demortes
      @Demortes 2 года назад +2

      Also the engineers that design these cars should really work in a mechanics shop for years long before they design, and have no business influence (seriously, this is only designed to bring customers into a shop... as often as an alternator replacement (in my area anyway) is, this should be illegal...)

    • @RSchannel777
      @RSchannel777 2 года назад

      that's because it is insane. so it used to be easy to work on, they're totally freaking scamming people now.

  • @neilreid2298

    What I learned: 1) you absolutely have to have an extra long, thin, ⅜ drive rachet and deep well 14mm socket to get the hardest of three bolts and then it's pretty easy, 2) you don't need to pull the radiator but you do need to undo to it so you can move it out of the way, as well as remove the top rad hoses and drain the rad, 3) remove the bracket off the alternator- unbolt the bracket from the block first, then bench swap the bracket from old to new alternator, and 4) your hands are going to take a genuine beating. Not a super fun project but it'll save you $900, so definitely worth it.

    Excellent video, fantastic camera action. My only fear are those plugs and connectors 😂. Seems on my 13 year old Camry you sneeze too hard by them and they break. However, doing the job myself, I can tell the viewers this was not this easy. Removing fans, radiator, etc was the easy part, about 1 hour even with my bad back. Removing the alternator 3 bolts too hours and I have fully stocked tool set and sockets. There has been a lot of cussing, cursing, contemplating life choices. Hints on the small bolt on the back. It does nothing to secure the alternator. It's only to hold the bracket she was talking about. What I did is,remove the one bolt direct with easy access, Don't mess with the harness. Slide the alternator out and tilt it to the left. The harness and small bolt, 12mm, are still attached. Now, when you tilt the alternator the small bolt is full exposed and no need for swivel, mirrors, cussing or anything. It's right there exposed.

    The whole reason if I bought a Camry I'd buy one with a 4 cylinder. Way easier to work on. On a 4 banger you can change the alternator in 15 -20 mins, its right on top of the engine.

    • @agbarraza5665
      @agbarraza5665 3 года назад +1

      I agree man. I did it myself in about 1 hour but that's cause I am not mechanically inclined but was still able to do it on my own by watching a RUclips video. I'm sure others like yourself can do it much faster. Boy am I glad I didn't let the salesman talk me into getting the six cylinder back in 2014 when I got my four cylinder 2014 Camry SE 2.5L gas only vehicle. It seems like a bloody nightmare to do this job on the six banger. Yikes!!!

      Oh, and BTW, I didn't change my Toyota alternator cause it was failing me, I simply changed it cause my car has 150,000 miles plus and just wanted to get this job out of the way cause it's just a matter of time before all alternators fail. Just some FYI.

    First-rate video! I would only say that there is an alternative to removing the front RH wheel and inner fender wheel cover: first, don't entirely remove the original drive belt (unless you're replacing it outright;) just disengage mostly with the old alternator. Second, after installing the new one, remove the upper engine dampener and its attachment bracket with the engine. With these out of the way, there's plenty of travel in the tensioner to re-install the belt. Get a good light and you'll easily be able to spot from above the engine whether the belt is correctly seated on the pulleys. Afterward, reinstall the bracketry and dampener. For me, this is faster and easier than futzing with the wheel and inner fender cover.

      I watched a video where the guy loosened the bottom of the radiator and pushed it back some. I've got a V6 so it's pretty dang freaking harsh. I'm really pissed off at Toyota these days, they used to make the cars actually able to work on at home. plus, I had a 2000 Corolla for 16 years with a zero mechanical problems. this is an 11-year-old car with under 200,000 miles and the freaking alternator is failing. actually the regulator part which apparently is built into the alternator another insanely stupid idea.

    I have a 2013 Avalon 3.5L. I am having charging issues hopefully just the battery. It is still the original and only 36K miles. I have seen some videos that do this with a little less labor but "Holy Fuzzy Cats"!
    Can you tell me the labor charge and the OEM alternator cost? I thought I could change it myself if it is the alternator but that is not an option.
    I miss the rear wheel drive cars before the mid 80's. I could change the alternator or water pump in 15 minutes.
    Just amazed at how much cheap plastic fasteners are used.
    Nice job and give me a clue.

    it's super hard not to say f Toyota. they're making the cars near impossible for the home mechanic. only because I got a relatively decent deal on fluid changes, did I have them do the transmission, which has some freaking bizarre hole on the side so you have to take off the wheel on the driver side. and then some freaking bizarre way you're supposed to measure the appropriate amount you put in.
    sorry but this really pisses me off bad. I just got a $776 quote from aamco, guys I trust who I've worked with before. but they're charging $400 for the alternator, which I can get at the parts store for 150 to $200, with the core exchange.
    I need 2011 V6 Camry instructions if anybody knows of anyone who can provide them or direct me there.
