    Sorry you lost the big guy, very likely it was a bat ray. Good job on the lings

    I’ve had that happened before. It’s a hooked fish but snagged at the same time so you’ll feel the fish but barely any movement from the rod other than the bending of the rod, which is caused by the movement of your yak.

      Mine was a lingcod and since you were targeting lingcod my bet is that it was a big enough ling to pull into rock crevices.

      @@heysuesaatch3362 good guess, I’m leaning towards lingcod as well

    Could’ve been a giant halibut. I landed one last year that I thought was a snag. Dead weight, but I peeled it off the bottom and it weighed 36lbs. 🤙

    Maybe shark or ray, though usually those don't pop off given their anatomy. Definitely something that had to be over 30 lbs to bend the rod like that. Or...giant halibut?

    • @hao2fish
      @hao2fish 4 месяца назад

      I don’t think it was a halibut, it didn’t have the aggressive head shakes. But yeah I think it was over 30lbs lol

    It was snag by kelp, maybe rock fish got away in the end.

    • @hao2fish

      It didn’t sway up and down like it was caught in kelp, good guess though!

      @@hao2fish first I guess was shark, but your hooks and line were not damaged, it might be bat ray. But I rarely or never even seen bat ray outside the gate though. I had a giant bat ray drag me and my yak around half hour in the ARW last week😂, I did manage surface it and unhooked without touching. The head was bigger than mine 😨

    Probably a lingcod that swam back into its cave. Best thing to do is free spool it and wait for it to swim out. I caught plenty of BIG lingcod that I thought was a snag.
