@TechandDesign great tutorial, thank you. I'm currently seeing up new 5tb external hard drive. If I setup as Time Machine, am I able to also save my iPhones and iPad backup into it to should I partition for each device backup?

    Hi
Very thorough and clearly explained, thanks. However, I was wondering how you would setup a time machine backup which will backup both my internal and external drive (used for storage not backup). Is that possible?

Very nice and detailed tutorial THANKS
While watching this video for the second time, one question upped in my mind, and this:
When we format an external hard drive or a USB stick, does the formatting wipes 100% of all data was previously stored in that particular drive or some data remains as leftover?
If so "YES" then the question is, can all those leftover datas be retrieved and/or accessed by somebody els?
I appreciate any answer to this matter.
    Thanks.

Data definitely remains. As he points out starting at 5:11, if you want be certain to remove all data then use the 'Security Options' feature. If you have really sensitive information you're concerned about then use the 'Most Secure' option which will write over existing data seven times. Depending on the size of you drive it could take many hours. Hope this helps.

Enjoyed your video. Couple of questions. I’ve been using Time Machine for my IMac, but only to back up the internal hard drive which contains all my data and applications. I will be upgrading to a Mac mini. I’m going to keep the operating system and apps on the internal ssd, and data (music, photos, documents, etc.) on a external ssd. Will Time Machine back up both and keep them separate if you ever need to restore? Or do separate ssd drives need to be backed up separately? Thanks.

    Hello, two questions:
    1. Can you move iCloud and iCloud photos on an external drive and have it only there?
    2. Can you backup with TimeMachine both the mac internal drive and the external drive at the same time?
    Thank you!

    • @TechandDesign

you can always download your iCloud Photos.
yes you can backup both pretty much will seem like it’s doing it at the same time

For some reason, I do not have the " Scheme" option below the Format. Is it still safe to erase my new hard drive?

    • @TechandDesign

there is no new format on the M1 macs for external hard drives.
I think you are thinking about apfs which is for external SSD

when I run final cut. it is eating up all my internal storage is their a way to get apps to write to the external drive?

    • @TechandDesign
      @TechandDesign  2 года назад

so, FCPX takes a lot yes. the first setting you want to turn off - is for Final Cut Pro to copy your files into its system , there is no need.

Is it possible to move a backup from PC to a time machine backup? Or how do I access the external drive PC backup from a MAC. I have a new Mac Mini M1 coming Monday and this will be new setup. I have other external drives with Time Machine and it appears like all I need to do it just plug them in to view the files, but the PC I'd like to get onto one drive, i.e. 2T drive.
