    Thanks for a really enjoyable series on this fantastic old Bally classic. I remember playing this when it was new. …I also repainted 2 of these cabinets about 20 years ago. I have nothing but great memories of Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy.

    Oh well -- if at first, you don't succeed--!
    I just replaced a joystick PCB with a third-party component. The replacement PCB was fine. It was the wiring that frustrated me because I used a joystick harness where the signal lines were all screwed up and put out of order (by a likely drunk or otherwise substance-confused factory line worker) and I had some wire bundling issues. Put a bunch of wire underneath buttons it tends to bundle and may cause a plunger to get stuck! Separating and zip-tying signal wire away from the buttons helped quite a bit.
    Happy times! Takes a lot more time to debug and fix things than it should sometimes!

    never knew that I should compress the flipper assembly when you are tightening the coil stop. regarding the bally drop targets they probably realized it was cheaper to remove the bar and two screws without fundamentally changing the machining of the drop target mechanism. better working mechanism was probably an unintended side benefit. going to bet the shelf of the drop targets needs a little touch up with a file to increase reliability.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Год назад

      It's wear on the little bar that runs across and resets them, on this one the end hole is wallowed out so it can't lift them all the way. Also the new targets are slightly different than the originals and drop more often, hard to get them perfect....

      @@LyonsArcadeThanks for the feedback. I’ll take a closer look at the lift bar. The linkage on the ends seems to fit pretty well yet. Y’all rock with your vids too. I’m a huge fan!

    I just LOOOOOVE this video. Help me to work on my Captain Fantastic machine. Some of the issues are EXACTLY what I have and thanks to you, i fixed them. The only one I have left to fix and not a problem on your machine, is that my score does NOT collect the 300 points in the 300 point lanes. The bonus advances but NO 300 points , therefore no chime. Can you offer some guidance and which relay I need to look at that helps to collect the 300 points? LOVE ALL your videos!!!!

    Great Video! At 52:00 you stumbled upon the same issue I'm currently experiencing with my first EM. Recently got an Old Chicago and it was working great...for a week! Been beating my head against a wall for the last week trying to figure out what is going on. This gives me a huge boost of confidence to dig back into it tomorrow. Question: What do you use to clean all the gunk off of the mechanical parts? I know I need to scuff up the switches but I have gunk built up on some of the wheels, gears and other moving parts. Whats best?

  • @andrasszabo7386

    I think there is a bulb out, on top of the left flipper, in the red triangle. Anyway, my uncle had one of these in his bar a long time ago, but it was upgraded to an LED score board, with 7-segment LED modules. He opened the money insert door, and we played for hours, for free.

    • @michaelcalvin42
      @michaelcalvin42 Год назад

      He mentioned that at some point in this video. There is no bulb socket at all in that red triangle.

    There has to be an add-on sound chip for this pinball machine!
    It demands music!
    Yeah, a retrofit with a soundchip bonus track of "Pinball Wizard" should be made for this game!

      Why would an Elton John pinball game have a song from The Who?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Год назад +1

      It's hard to make it work well for EM games, but you can have things that play when certain relays turn on, the issue would be making it change with other switch hits or putting 'callouts' or sound effects on. Tricky to do. Anything can be done, though.

    • @AvengerII
      @AvengerII Год назад

      @@LyonsArcade I understand people DON'T want permanent changes to collectibles but something like this would be a very obvious. Perhaps a NON-DESTRUCTIVE add-on that could easily be removed?
      (Of course, they want money for licensing the music! Ve have vays of gettin' around zat!)
      This pinball machine was influenced by the movie Tommy. There's that whole scene where Elton John is dressed like the character art of the pinball machine!
      "Pinball Wizard" is also not a bad track and totally fits the game!
