      Yes it definitely is very cool. I wonder how long the batteries last and how much it draws levitating. And would it work in low earth orbit using solar cells? Discuss ! 😀

      @@matsgustavsson665 it ionises and propels air so in lower pressures like those at higher altitudes there isn’t as much air to push so it would get less powerful.

    If 2 mph wind grounds your aircraft, maybe it doesn't work guy

    • @KraussEMUS1
      @KraussEMUS1 Год назад +1

      The ion propelled prototype aircrafts can handle a little better wind than that and they do work.
      As they are made larger the circumference increases with pi X D, whereas their area increases with pi times the radius squared. Therefore, if larger crafts are kept level, they will be considerably more wind resistant, when flown outside.
      The craft will fly all day with thin film solar cells or beamed power. It could also work with fuel cells or newer battery technologies in theory, so it could be flown at extreme altitudes or in space, with the addition of small added propellant tanks. Please keep in mind that these are only proof of concept prototypes and more powerful better versions are being developed. They fly literally whisper quiet, and in the future will have improved performance.

      @@KraussEMUS1that's a stupid take. You want to sound smart while being wrong. Ion drives only work in space for a reason

    • @KraussEMUS1
      @KraussEMUS1 Год назад +1

      @@krotchlickmeugh627 Google ion lifters, and ionocraft, or ion propelled aircraft. There is such a thing. The electric wind or ion wind has been known about since the days of Ben Franklin. You are incorrect. Study the subject before ridiculing.

    • @ddegn

      @@krotchlickmeugh627 Ethan Krauss's channel has videos showing ion propelled aircraft working.
      MIT also made a model airplane which used ion propulsion. The MIT aircraft few indoors and required a catapult assisted launch but once in the air, it flew under its own power.
      The Plasma Channel has a couple videos on ion propulsion. He intends to make an airplane using ion propulsion.
      Ion thrusters used in space require some sort of fuel to produce thrust. Ion propulsion inside Earth's atmosphere, uses air molecules to produce the thrust.
      Ion propulsion is really cool tech but I have a hard time believing it will be practical as a form of aircraft propulsion.

    At what point does RC become Drone?

    • @Tech_Planet
      @Tech_Planet  Год назад +1

      I think any drone is pretty much RC, unless it's completely autonomous? I am not sure heh

    • @audiodead7302
      @audiodead7302 Год назад +2

      Definitions aren't completely clear, but I think it comes down to application. When people refer to RC, they are usually referring to recreational use. When they call them drones/UAV, they usually have some commercial/science application.
