I wouldn't say underrated too because everyone who is familliar with Mamamoo knows they're a strong vocal group even if they're not necessarily a fan. Mamamoo has that established reputation among other kpop groups thats why they're not underrated, underappreciated I think is the better term cause they're not the most mainstream kpop group out there which quiet is sad that a lot of people are missing out on Mamamoo

Thank you for this video! When I first became a Moomoo about three years ago, I was worried that Mamamoo wasn’t popular enough. But now I think about it in a different way. First of all, they have an exceptional body of high quality work. The sheer number of songs-as a group, as subunits, as solo artists-is immense. They are very highly respected in the industry and by anyone who knows their work. Two of the members have released full solo albums and have done solo world tours. The other two members have done solo concerts and/or fan-cons and have multiple music show wins as soloists. One of the members is so well trusted by her company to write rap lyrics that she has become the highest credited female artist in the industry. The group as a whole had a very successful world tour including several arena concerts that were sold out or nearly sold out.
At this stage they are not going to out-compete the biggest groups in terms of worldwide popularity. They are not going to trend faster than the latest 4th generation successful group. Instead they have transitioned to the stage where they are senior artists who can legitimately be called legends in the industry. And they are still together as a group!
So well said. As far as all K-pop goes and looking beyond K-pop, Mamamoo and Red Velvet have my utmost respect, admiration, and loyalty. I can’t listen to the others anymore once you hear the best. Sooooo much talent in those two groups. I just got the compilation album they made for fans a few years ago. The new mixes are great, but do take a bit getting used to after hearing the original recordings so often. HAPPY 10th ANNIVERSARY to four extraordinary women!

8:12 Wheein is actually the one who picks choreo the fastest. BUT, as far as I know, though they usually came up with steps together, Byul was often the one to make them into a cohesive choreo during their early years😀👍
It's true that they're clearly the most "underrated" group in K-pop, even though they have the best songs of any style, they're super fun, very charming and often wacky, but they don't cheat, they're who they are! f RBW had the same strike force as the big agencies, they'd be No. 1 everywhere!

When I started with Mamamoo I was prepared to be a K-Pop fan. Two years later and I am just Mamamoo stan 😂😂😂 no other group has captured me as they have! They are just amazing artists!!!

MAMAMOO's popularity may not be as big as groups from BIG 4 agencies, and sometimes I also hope they're more popular. But lately I think their current popularity is enough for them that the girls are still able to walk around in a city freely without too much attention/crowds disturbing them. The attention & crowds are still there, but mostly still manageable. Lately I just hope the girls will be healthy & happy, so they can do everything they want in their career 💚

I've been listening to kpop since the 2nd generation groups and let me tell you that when i heard a mamamoo song for the first time i was literally shocked cos i've never listened to such a high quality level of singing begore in that kpop industry that's why i think MAMAMOO is one of a kind they may be underrated cos of their company but one thing i'm sure aboit is there was and there will never be a group lile them in kpop industry
Liking a Mamamoo is a trap. Once you like and follow their growth, it's hard to like or find any other group who have the same quality as them. They are on their 10th but each of them still have so many improvements and exploring many things. Many groups didn't have much of a chance to do that bcs the agency, either they become too dependable to the agency or the agency restrict them.
Mamamoo has been on countless TV shows of all kinds in Korea, they have been invited to so many festivals, galas and award shows, they are very well known. Even in the US where they've had very successful tours. Now, do they pull off BP type of sale numbers? No, of course not, but we can't compare them to exceptions.
They are not underrated at all, I wish people didn't throw that word around, it just becomes meaningless and then we can't use it when it is appropriate anymore.

I have to disagree with you about their popularity with foreign fans. I am American and both my daughter and I like them. I love their music and their attitude. When compared with other female k-pop groups, they are a breath of fresh air.

I discovered mamamoo and found out that not just HIP is a great song, but almost all their titles are fantastic. Their vocals and live performances are unique and outstanding in the K-pop world.
MAMAMOO pretty much reason i listen to Kpop. Plus their different style is more to my liking.
Mamamoo is also very underappreciated in east asia too. They are probably most popular in taiwan. They are very far from east asian beauty standard which makes them "not attractive enough" for east asian men. Most of their fans are women and that makes them less popular. I feel sad for those who missed mamamoo out because they definitely missed out part of the best of k-pop history

Wheein said she wants to do another World Tour as a group, and we all know if she wants something it's gonna happen, and she never makes promises that she can't keep. I'm 100% sure the next Mamamoo album will come out next year. Solar and Byul's contract will end with RBW next month, so we don't know what's gonna happen with that either.
Mamamoo are TRENDSETTERS. Trendsetters usually don't get recognition as much because they are ahead of their time. Little fact known, Mamamoo was about to become global to perform at Coachella, when the pandemic hit in 2020. Managment also was a big issue to have them perform globally. But in Korea, they have staple Moomoos
Mamamoo is the best freaking girl group of all time. I’m sorry they are. They are huge over here in the states. I went to their world tour concert and I had a phenomenal time. I went to WHEEINS solo tour had excellent time with her. I can’t wait for the girls to come back.

Since I am a huge fan, I often get the same feeling but it is not objective. They sold over 70,000 tickets on their first tour in the USA last year which was a record. I mean they can never be loved enough for sure but they are quite succesfull as both group and solo artists. Moomoos genuinely care for the well being of their artist the most so they dont measure their success by looking only the popularity. Girls just celebrated their 10th anniversary and even if they all have their own solo tours and other engagements they got together for a content shooting. We are lucky to have them❤
And it could have been more if they put them in bigger venues or did more stops.
And that without RBW promoting their tour properly (or not even). To set such a number with only MooMoos promoting them ho´´shows a, how many people outside Korea love them (without understanding them 😛) and how much bigger this number could have been if they had the same promotion other groups had.
I've just seen Wheein in the Netherlands last month and can't wait to see Hwasa in november, and I hope Wheein holds her promise to come back as OT4 to europe 😀
The reason why RBW never rent venue exceeding 20-25k capacity id because they want to audience experience quality audio. A bigger venue may bring in more audience but cannot guarantee high quality audio experiences.
That is why MMM concert in SK always run 3 days in a row

They are not underrated. They are under appreciated. They are praised for their vocals as a group and as soloists. Some might not like their sound but the majority of them can agree on their vocal talent.

She has covers taemin dance, baggy jeans, jhope dance, exo loveshot, newjeans ditto, le sserafim unforgiven, she has done smoke dance challenge. Watch be like me covers and more two covers that she had done in past. Analyze her dance, she has so sharp, smooth and swaggy movements. You can watch before debut era where there is video of her and moonbyul dancing in lay down. She is the one who can even memorize dance step in an instant. In her fan service she did dance newjeans dittto and jhope covers just in that moment. You can watch "wheein the ace of kpop" video her memory skill is far too good even members were surprised. And for stage presence, other members are just too good but it doesn't means wheein is not good. She is just like calm wind before storm. And her talents are enough to be appreciated. Her talents needs to be recognized as she is like one of the most talented artist or kpop idols in her generation. I think you hadn't got wheein that much and i am stuck for 4 years. Ever since i got to know her, i really can't understand how this girl is underrated. She is the girl with many talents like archery, brilliant memory skill, great vocal, amazing dance, intrumentalist, art skill and so on.

Fans consider idols as a piece of jewelry adorned on themselves to showcase their wealth, as if they prefer groups from the BIG3 BIG4 rather than your music. The industry is like that, and when you become famous, music, voice, and visual will have influence even though inspirational statements and words sound hollow.

I don't understand why people keep saying they are underrated. They have a big fanbase, are excellent artist, each one of them have a solid solo career and are respected in the korean industry. More over in the latest years they successfully completed group and solo tour. So why are they underrated?
I don't really know about "respected in korean industry" if that were true then the k-netizens would not bash when they do something new like pole dancing solar or bandwagon of hate just because they don't fit the beauty standards

Because alot of moos (especially their international fandom) have fallen under victim syndrome mentality. Imagine MMM has achieved such great level of success, being one of the most well known groups in S.Korea and respected by their fellow idols and even the veteran singers in the industry, only to be downplayed so hard by their international fandom.
Just because they’re not as popular as BTS or Blackpink globally, it doesn’t mean that they’re underrated. Many kpop groups would kill to have MMM success and popularity. But hey international fans be like “Look guys we’re the biggest victim in the entire kpop history, we’re the MOST underrated kpop group, yada yada..” and keep regurgitating the same narratives over and over. Seriously though they need to stop having this mentality.
@@moonflower3906 That is not a problem exclusive to Mamamoo, it is a cultural issue in South Korea. I think you need to know more about Korean society to realize that, like everywhere else in the world, misogyny and violence against women are problems that deeply permeate society. I really like @dehuntr9908 opinion, I think many international fans really need to put aside their inferiority complex and learn to enjoy and be proud of everything that mamamoo has to offer artistically. And be even more proud that they are female artists who give voice to minorities and who go against social standards. Mamamoo is a group made up of four powerful women who have prevailed over all the criticism you mention.

Happy 10th anniversary to the girl group of my life ❤ i like the level of popularity they have now, it's at the sweet spot. Also, unfortunately they do have anti-fans, especially Hwasa, so moomoos have to constantly defend them. It's tiring but the girls always acknowledge their fans' efforts so it's all worth it.

I believe it's more about the standards. They don't fit much of the Korean standards. They aren't conventionally 'Korean-pretty'. Also, their songs are more on the mature side. Regular fans don't like that. They want girls that can portray their wet dreams (cute, child-like, submissive) which is definitely gross. Also, RBW didn't do so much with marketing them. They started too late to get a choreographer, they don't proactively put subtitles in videos, and they don't give them much promotion overseas (it was too late for me to know Mamamoo. I only knew them when Hwasa's 'Maria' became so popular. I never see them anywhere unlike some other groups that I don't even wanna see). Being a Moomoo for a couple of years now, I just accepted that they won't be able to reach the popularity their talents deserve. At least us, Moomoos, KNOW they are the best 3rd gen girl group if we are to talk about talent.

Like Army can I say that the video is completely true, I recently saw the Boracity video where it talks about "concepts" and that BTS made Love Yourself a trend in k-pop, Mamamoo took their history as a reference for making music. There are their solo and group songs where they express dismay/concern, their feelings not only by saying "you have to love Yourself".

I don't know about the not popular in the west part. When they had their first world tour, the no#'s showed how much they are really well known. And I should know ì attended one of them and let me tell you that area was full from top to bottom. Still have the Pic and video till this day. One of the best time of my life.

Na verdade, a empresa sabota elas sim. Eles deram liberdade criativa mas não dão suporte nos comebacks e simplesmente deixam as meninas por conta própria. Óbvio que a barreira linguística existe mas só olhar a tour delas por todos os países que elas foram e que teve todos os shows lotados. Uma prova de que a empresa impacta sim na carreira delas é a Hwasa estar na Pnation e a primeira música dela já estourar na internet.
