Moo, such a fluidly powerful swing... and the "Old Guy" ain't too bad either. Love this unrestricted swing--sending to the target and collecting the ball in the process. Great positive stuff--as always.
I just happened to see a video today - "Ben Hogan, Body connected drill". It's just a minute long, but it's footage of him hitting a shot, where you clearly see his arms come away from his torso. Then, when you hear him discuss the drill where he says to imagine your arms linked to your torso, he goes on to say "Now, you wouldn't go around the course like that all day..." Based on that, I'd say the purpose of doing that is just to get a better feel for being synced, but when it's time to take the full swing, let your full range of motion take over. Clearly it's been misapplied. (I went back and fixed a couple typos)

I hope you did not fall in the trap of this trend called “arms deep behind you”…🙄🙄

This one is especially near and dear to my heart as I have seen way too many tour pros and amateurs go under the knife unnecessarily and get taken out of competition for months and come back tentatively to protect from getting hurt.

@@ragasha89 darn right! 3 decades of listening to teachers hurt other golfers and out of my control; all you can do is do your best and I do my best to explain this every chance I get and show where the pros on tour are doing well with it like with Bubba, Bryson, Jack, Tom Watson, Hale Irwin, etc…the game of golf does not do well when people quit out of injury!!
First 10 seconds with the broken string sounded like my lower back, shoulders and knees, from all those years I was drinking that evil kool-aid about resisting the lower body and torquing the upper body. Where were you when I needed you 35 years ago?! Such a great, refreshing & natural way to play golf; you are the lost Saint of Golf instructors. Perhaps we need to start the Saint Shawn movement...
So sorry you had to go through that one cgs! Now you are found and are on the right track and let’s keep it that way! Let us know how you progress! 😀👍🫶
Shawn I’ve followed you for years now however doesn’t this require excellent timing? I’m now 68 still in good physical condition as far as flexibility, however seems like I still really struggle with my iron making good contact . Take care my friend.
What you want is COMPLETE ABANDON OF CONTROL in the direction you want to start the ball; no guiding, placing steering which would be the equivalent of driving a car while having the feet on both the gas and brake pedal! Too much effort and friction and no speed…
Haha, very funny! Just ask Graham Delaet, Michelle Wie, Brant Snedeker, Kevin Chappel, Ryan Moore and many others about resisting with lower body in the backswing; Justin Included! The ball between the arms is not as bad; it’s the ball between the legs that is the destroyer!
What you don’t get is that the human movement patterns are way more in favour of this in all sports and disciplines; we are ABSOLUTE GENIUSES at it and we are terrible when fighting gravity.
That ball is big on PGA tour. That is a big Martin Chuck training aid . Agree not recommended . As for your Punching analogy the golf swing would be more powerful with the dropping giving an upper cut, much more powerful . Your thoughts

Who is teaching people to keep their legs and hips locked during a golf swing? This is the first time I've seen an instructor demonstrate this.
