I have my fathers camera he used in Vietnam. He would take pictures in combat and sell his film to time magazine and whatnot . The journalist were to afraid to go in combat . Needless to say a lot of his film were used in the magazines back then for war photos. It’s in the original case . He would put the camera on top of his like shooting area or gun and when before he would shoot he would set it to take photos.
If the led lights inside the viewfinder don’t come on is the camera still going to work? Meaning I will get correctly exposed images as long as I’m spot on with my metering with a handheld external meter?
Hello, my grandmother recently gifted me this exact camera! When I look through the viewfinder I cannot see anything it is completely dark, do you have any recommendations?
Hi Chloe, thanks for watching. Assuming you don't have the lens cap on, try taking the lens off to see what position the mirror is in. It should be down and visible. If it's not, you could try to gently coax it down. It might just be a bit sticky.
I loved using mine but the mirror started getting stuck in the up position when I hit the shutter button. I gotta get it repaired soon, any recommendations on where to send it?
Not in the US I'm afraid no. If you're feeling brave, a little isopropyl alcohol may free up the mechanism. After applying, use the lever on the side to work it free.
can someone please help, I found this camera from a garage sale but it is only missing the battery door (cover). Can anyone help me as to where I can find one
Ebay will be your best bet I should think. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YASHICA-TL-ELECTRO-FILM-SLR-BATTERY-COVER/133669470725?hash=item1f1f524205:g:7~UAAOSwW5BgFXKe
Thank you. Aha, you spotted by mistake. I started to talk about it and then got completely side-tracked. It lifts the mirror out of the way so that when you have taken the lens off, you can carefully clean inside the camera.
It also allows for the use of the Yashica fisheye lens which required the mirror to be locked up and an auxiliary viewfinder attached to the hot shoe for focusing. I only know this because I recently bought an old brochure featuring the entire line of screw mount lenses for Yashica SLR's and it mentioned the above lens and the need for the lockup feature...
Will any M42 lens work on this camera. Any brand recommendations for lenses for this. I just came across my fathers camera (this very camera) and want to start using it. Thanks!
Great find, its a very cool camera and with a family connection, even better. Yes any M42 will fit. With regards to brands there are so many choices. Personally I'd start with the cheaper end because you can then get various types. Prime, Zoom, Wide etc. It will depend a lot on your budget but there some useful things said in this article. www.gadgetinfinity.com/best-m42-lenses-review/
@@sccjono okay good to know. I also found my dads Pentax Spotmatic w a bunch of Pentax lenses so I have a feeling I can try those, on both the Yashica, and Pentax, of course. Thanks for the info!
At least I look relatively normal in the thumbnail of this one. The last one, not so much.
I also got my Electro 35 GS because it was born the same year I was (1970.)
Nice.

Great video and good looking camera
Thanks Hayder, I appreciate the comment.

I wonder if it still work without the battery? Or it’s a must to have it?
Everything will work ok except the light meter. But the batteries are cheap and easy to get hold of.
@@sccjono wait, it will still work and take photos without a battery? I have one that is missing the battery door cover ):

@@tomfabbricante8975 Yeah Pentax used M42 before switching to the K mount. Thanks for watching.
Great video but your background music is too loud and it's distracting.
Yes so I've been told. All my videos now are music free. Thanks for watching.
@@sccjono Again, great video. Thanks for the information.
