as per the ancient indian sacred texts, tamil was a product of combined efforts by Sage Agastya and Lord Subrahmanya. FYI telugu is 80% sanskrit based.

Sanskrit learning takes time and effort... as he spokes Tamil, it has lots of similarities with sanskrit.. anyway he mentioned that if he had learnt sanskrit,he would have been ended up reading scripture because it's so fascinating and enriched with deeper knowledge... But reading and perceiving will took more time . one can experience several aspects of universe just by thinking or in his words "turning Inward" ,why to learn a language and read fascinating stories and ended up in one track vision... but he clearly stated his immense love for the language..
We people can learn Sanskrit and research this language and develope our own programing language for this technological advancements of this era... or at least we can start adding this language to all level of schooling... slowly convert all subjects into this language...
1.35 billion people should not become the slave of 0.35 billion british people's language . That is a shame and it's becoming too late to recover our old glory . At least we Indian can do so.... This things are not his life goal... at least he didn't discouraged anyone not to read or learn Sanskrit... so without bullying or throwing negative comments see yourself what have you done..
I feel ashamed of myself for using "English" a paralyzed language. But people in this society thinks a English speaking person is educated and others are not so... its becoming a fashion.... and those western world is very much pleased by their progress... they are killing our identity.... we are feeling ashamed of our mother tongue .... that is their success... mindless indian educated d i k heads...

The thing is we all feel ashamed and expect that someone else would learn and revive it. I was in the same boat till recently. Then I put in my effort to learn spoken Sanskrit and love how easy it is. You can also learn spoken Sanskrit for free from Samskrita Bharathi. I’ve also completed a basic learning of spoken Sanskrit via the free Samskrita Bharathi videos available on RUclips- they also have a free 10 day in person classes they conduct in different parts of Bharath and outside. It is pointless merely giving our opinion on social media if we do not put an effort to learn the language. (Saw this as topmost comment hence responding to this)

Every Sound in Sanskrit is Like a Mantra that is so powerful and has the potency to Bring so much benefits to the person (to his Body/Mind/Soul/Experience) uttering it (correctly) and hearing it and to the environment and the space around HIM !! Such is the Potency Of Sanskrit !! Also that it IS THE FIRST Language on the Planet and it was meant for Spirituality and The Sounds of Sanskrit IS THE Language of Creation Itself !! Right From the Creator - THE Lord !! Its THE Most Perfect Language with all the fundamental Sounds (in the way it SHOULD BE) right from the Creator !! And OM is The Frist Ever Sound Vibrated/Uttered and Heard in the Beginning - The beginning of this Universe/The beginning of this Manifestation !! And Hence we have the Majority of the Hindu Scriptures compiled in Sanskrit !! Good Luck India and Sanskrit !!

    @satyamsnampalli4984 6 лет назад +11

Greetings From Goloka Vrindavan. Here are my two cents. This gentleman wanted to know the importance of Sanskrit in understanding "Aham Brahmasmi". All the Vedas and Puranas were spoken and written in Sanskrit in the beginning. All the languages were derived from Sanskrit, even the English. For example, Aham = I am. Me = To me. Mama = Mine or my. As he put it, it is indeed a jewel in the crown of languages. The makeup of humans is of two energies according to the Lord (#1 Energy, Bhagawan, Universal Consciousness) 1. Material (Pancha Bhootas, mind, intelligence and ego ) 2. Spiritual Energy, the true self, atman, individual consciousness-part-n-parcel of the Universal Consciousness. Once the boundary line of the body is gone, you just have only the Consciousness. So, you see only the consciousness, just one. You, all other living creatures including plants, and I are that Brahman, the Universal Consciousness. Understanding this through Sanskrit from the original Vedas and Upanishads/Bhagavadgita would be authentic and derive exact meaning lest it lost through other languages and interpretations. It is that simple to achieve Moksha/Nirvana in that you have to gain knowledge about Brahman (Impersonal or a personalized God; Shiva/Krishna Rama etc), realize your true self first, do unattached karmas, dedicate all karmas to GOD, love all, chant OM...you are Home, no doubt..you reach the abode of peace and bliss...that is moksha. Another thing; always an alphabet of any language contains a certain number of letters, but not alphabets! Sadguru just gave an incomplete answer on the mechanism of sound waves and hearing as words processed in the brain.

Ha ha ha, your comment is like, praising ur own self. You will write your own history and others history in a way it benefits you and then claim that history is the truth??
So, let me understand this, the world you claim that it had root in Sanskrit, can you give some etymology of why it got that name?
For example, in Tamil we name bangle as valayal, cause it's curvy( valai). Like that if you can give me the etymology for atleast one word u called as Sanskrit origin with letters meaning too.
Say for example phoneciean alphabets are the base of Egyptian alphabets which derived from the drawings. The letter A is called aleph which is the drawing of a bull/ ox, they call the ox as aleph in their language.
So give me the root word for all the words u mention for sanskritised Tamil and i challenge you. I bet I can give you the etymology of the same Tamil word after ur explanation.

More you learn sanskrit more information you discover … there’s so much knowledge hidden in our sanskrit literature. I can understand how our Rishis and Munis had so much power, siddhi and amazing technology . Sadly most of it is lost as invaders purposely destroyed those who were instrumental in passing it on to generations and also our literature. We have to learn it again as much as possible. I see many Tamil dissing Sanskrit but I know several Tamils who are learning Sanskrit and are pundits in Sanskrit. No one is forcing Sanskrit on those who don’t want to learn. But it’s important to be familiar with it if one wants to rediscover and protect our sanskriti.

@@pinnacleessence1750 From what I have had heard from one of an expert in proto Dravidian scripts, my understanding is that Tamil is least affected form of Proto Dravidian script or language or how ever it would please you to call it as. So it has certain alphabets included to make sounds that are not naturally present in the script and because of geography, intermixing of people and various other factors it has a lot of included words from sanskrit for the sake of convenience and for every included words there can be a minimum of two or three equivalent Tamil words. So there's no case where Tamil cannot fully function without sanskrit but also can function very efficiently and beautifully in terms of literary sense. So it would be very stupid to argue that Tamil having a few words for convenience without understanding if the language can function perfectly well without those added words.
Well if the claim is that Tamil is not fully Dravidian, that begs the question what is fully Dravidian in the first place. Where's it ? Every language undergoes a few changes in the way it is scripted and spoken. There's no finding which is the beginning when it comes to languages, the best that can be done is which is the least influenced. As far as Dravidian scripts are considered, Tamil is least influenced and if someone wish to take even the minor external language influence on the language,Tamil can still function beautifully. But for people it is easier think simply and they use one word in many meanings. So after that word " love" is mean something what it never was then in result true meaning us lost. The same is about word " emotions".
And yeah. If really carefully look at the word the describing, pronouncation, every letter, and all compound if word and situated it in nature there is real meaning what we sayung and what it is in fact.

Excerpted commentary on language by Shrii Sarkar : Varna Vijinana Phonetics - 1 (Discourse 1)
All the languages of the world are bound together on a single thread - sútre mańigańá iva. No language is beyond this law. Those languages which used to carry the remnants of natural melodies have also finally had to obey this law. Even before the existence of written script the science of language was based on phonetics. Despite the lack of script, alphabetical order did exist. For example, during the Rgvedic era the letters ka, kha, ga, gha existed but people did not know how to write them. The people of that time were not familiar with the letters of the alphabet - they knew their pronunciation but they could not write them. At that time metrics were fixed according to alphabetical order.
Written script did not exist at the beginning of the Vedic era. Written script came into existence between five and six thousand years ago with the Saendhavii script. Although written script did not exist in the Vedic era, metre did. There are seven metres in the Vedas: Uśńik, Gáyatrii, Anuśt́up, Triśt́up, Brhatii, Jagatii and Paunkti. There were special rules for the pronunciation of Uśńik metre.
The Vedic language is the oldest language that we are familiar with. This language was influential in central Asia and certain parts of India for a period that extended from fifteen thousand years ago to about seven and a half thousand years ago. Its alphabetical order follows the rules of Rgvedic pronunciation. There are three accepted systems of pronunciation in Sanskrit - Saḿvrta, Vivrta and Tiryyak. Both Sanskrit and Vedic have three measures of pronunciation - short, long and extended.
In Sanskrit there are four accepted systems of pronunciation - Káshiká, Dakśińii, Maháráśt́rii and Gaoŕiiya [those of Benares, southern India, Maharashtra and Bengal]. The Rgvedic style of pronunciation is different from the Yajurvedic style of pronunciation. In Saḿvrta the pronunciation of the alphabet is similar to Bengali pronunciation. In Vivrta it is somewhat similar to that of the western areas of Uttar Pradesh. Tiryyak occupies a place somewhere between the English “au” and the English “o”. For example, we write man but we pronounce it somewhere in-between “maun” and “mone”.
The Rgvedic style has a total of fifty letters - sixteen vowels and thirty-four consonants.
A language normally lasts about one thousand years and a script about two thousand years before undergoing metamorphosis. Script, however, is not sound. It is alphabetical order. The Bengali script came into existence approximately fifteen hundred years ago and it will survive for some time longer. Due to the invention of printing, the life of the script will be extended somewhat.
The Prákrta language came into existence approximately thirty-five hundred years ago and when it did Sanskrit or Vedic pronunciation changed. To put it in another way, the name of those altered verbal root forms, word forms, pronouns and vocabulary was Prákrta, which spread orally among the common people. Prákrta came into existence shortly before the advent of Krśńa.
Many people believe that Sanskrit is an artificial language. However, the prevalence of so many Sanskrit words in the speech of uneducated people proves that it is not. For example, kandara is a Sanskrit word. In the colloquial language of Rarh there is a word kándar, that is, a small, deep tributary. If Sanskrit were an artificial language then how could there be so many Sanskrit words in use among uneducated people. The people of Rarh have Sanskrit in their blood. It is their native language. If Bengali is the language of our veins and arteries then Sanskrit is the language of our bone marrow.

Sanskrit is the language of our Indian spiritual language our nation and it's legacy. It has the power to unite all Indians as no one will oppose it. There is opposition to learning Hindi in many parts of India as it's a regional language. English on the other hand is the link language, for all Indians more then Hindi ,as well as the whole world.India was introduced to the world through the English language. The global link language may change in the future and we all will have to adapt. But for India's unity and for spiritual development and progress learning and understanding sanskrit is paramount. Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam are all Dravidian languages developed independently initially. However, over the years, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada have taken so many Sanskrit loan words and replaced their ingenious words with Sanskrit. Its similar to English words like 'Internet' 'Hard disk' 'Keyboard' etc that make way into our languages these days. In Tamil, Sanskrit loan words are very few. Some falsely claiming 40% Sanskrit in Tamil, its not true. Only speakers of Tamil Brahmin dialect use as much Sanskrit, not others. In other Tamil dialects, its less than 5% and can be completely avoided if required. For example, in spoken tamil, Sanskrit origin word 'Santhosham' (happiness) is slowly fading out in favor of Tamil word 'Magizhchi' by most speakers. In written and literary Tamil, mixing Sanskrit is considered unpleasant, so people tend to use pure Tamil. In other words, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada speakers think mixing more Sanskrit words make their languages look more classy & stylish, but it Tamil its the other way round. Using pure Tamil is considered high class, especially in literary circles. It is because of this independence on Sanskrit and maintaining individuality, Tamil is not Sanskrit based, according to linguists.

If not today it should be revived in the near future and every Hindu can read and understand the text and interpret in correct way in regional languages and propagate its essence... I don't understand why Sadhguru (self proclaimed seeker) supports the stupid argument that all Indian languages were derived from sanskrit except for Tamil. South Indian ( Dravidian ) languages like Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu have more in common with each other than with sanskrit. Many of the linguists/researchers say there should be a proto-dravidian language whose roots are completely independent of sanskrit. In these matters that Sadhguru fails to provide proper information.

Believe it or not, Sanskrit is the only language much suitable for Speech Recognition and Artificial Intelligence in Computer field. The reason is very simple. It's alphabets (Mainly Devnagari Scripts) is phonetic scripts and you write what you speak. There is no need for pronunciation for words. Sanskrit is well known for its rigid, structured and highly developed grammar. It is almost like it can be represented by mathematical logic. The main reason why Sanskrit is good for Artificial Intelligence is that in any sentence in Sanskrit language, every words used contains hidden intelligence. For simple example - Aham Griham Gachhami ( I home go - I go home ). Aham represent not only "I" but also gives its activity as a subject. Griham "home" represent as object with something happening on and finally Gachhami "go" always means "I'''s activity or it is only associated with "I". The sentence does not need to interpolate but only gives the clear meaning and also unique words associated with "I go home". This is the reason why Sanskrit is suitable for speech recognition and Artificial Intelligence in Computer field.

Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam are all Dravidian languages developed independently initially. However, over the centuries, when Sanskrit speakers came in contact with Dravidian language speakers, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada have taken so many Sanskrit loan words. Its similar to English words that make way into our spoken languages these days.
In Tamil, Sanskrit loan words are very few and always discernable. Some falsely claim 40% Sanskrit in Tamil, its not true. Only speakers of Tamil Brahmin dialect mix as much Sanskrit. In other Tamil dialects, its less than 5% and can be completely avoided if required. For example, in spoken tamil, Sanskrit origin word 'Santhosham' (happiness) is increasingly becoming out of use, in favor of Tamil word 'Magizhchi' by most speakers. In written & literary Tamil and in formal speeches, mixing Sanskrit is considered undesirable, so people tend to use pure Tamil. Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada speakers think mixing more Sanskrit words make their languages look more polished & stylish, but in Tamil, its the other way round. Using pure Tamil is considered high class, especially in literary circles and in formal events.
