  • The Herodian dynasty was filled with proud, dysfunctional, evil kings. Herod Agrippa I persecuted the early church, killing James and imprisoning Peter. In this message, we learn about the power of prayer and see how God's sovereignty triumphs over the pride of man.
    This teaching is from our series 44 Acts - 2017 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

    Hello from the Philippines! I am so amazed at the anointing God has been giving Pastor Skip everytime he shares God's Word. I have been reading the bible for many years but there are so many insights P Skip has shared that is always like an "Aha!" moment for me. I am thanking God for his diligence in studying God's Word, plus church history, and many other aspects about Israel and generously sharing it all with us! As a family, we are studying his series in Explore every week and I am always excited to learn new things from the series. May the Lord enlarge his territory of ministry even more for God to be glorified!

    Wow, Herod. This name now conjurs up Narcissism, hate, lust, and murderous tendencies in my mind! A legacy of evil! I love Pastor Skip' s teaching. Makes things so plain; allowing me to digest my bible verses in understandable bites!!! GOD converts, but he also deals with the unjust!

    Thanks for the sharing.
    One point to note from verses 13 and 14 of Acts 12 is that not all of those praying for Peter had unbelief. The servant herself who attended to the knock on the door seemed to have had expectant faith that Peter would show up. The scriptures say that she didn't even open the door but at the sound of Peter's voice, she was overjoyed and went to tell the others that Peter was at the door. It's the others who then showed unbelief by telling her she was out of her mind.
    So in the prayer group, there was at least one person who had faith in what they were praying for, and that was Rhoda. And we are told in James 5 that the prayer of one righteous person can make a difference.

    Pastor,
    Maybe they prayed for Peter's soul to be well received by God and didn't even consider they could pray for him to live. Hence their surprise.
    Maybe with Lazarus, their faith abound, but Jesus would act on this faith to also perform a greater sign.
    And maybe with the man with the daughter, his declaration of unbelief equated to his repentance. Hence Jesus still healing her.

    30:32 it was not just a few months ago that Jesus said that… it was more like 10 years ago. The reason Peter could sleep is bcuz he saw the risen Christ and knows his death meant heaven. He had the peace that transcends all understanding

      Correct. Apparently James died in AD 44, so if Jesus dies in the time frame AD 27-33, Acts 12 is some 17 years after. Certainly not months as this guy stated. Hasn't done his homework, there. Peter could sleep because he's probably exhausted, simple as that.

    I guess this 2nd imprisonment of Peter was not a few months after Jesus death. Acts timeline recorded chapter 12 was already many years after John 21.

    This brings up a question: If it was against the law for The Jewish people to conduct a capital punishment proceeding within the Roman's world--how then did the Sanhedrin get away with killing Stephen in chapter 7? They did the killing right on the spot--right outside of the temple, with no Roman authoritarians within the area, and yet there doesn't seem to be any recorded reprimands done to these Jewish leaders who did the execution. What am I missing here?

    • @saracinofamily6637
      @saracinofamily6637 Год назад

      Sanhedrin seemed to make up their own rules when convenient, like the trial of Jesus
