Bau Town is located in the District of Bau, about 35km or 20 mins driving by road from Kuching, the Sarawak’s capital. The district inhabitant is predominantly Bidayuh ethnic. The town is also known as the Gold Town of Sarawak due to its rich gold deposits and gold mining activities in the past. Some of the tourist attractions in the district are Wind Cave, Fairy Cave, Siniawan Old Town, Siniawan Night Market, Tasik Biru Delta Geopark, Serikin Border Market, Paku Hotspring, Paku Rock Maze Garden, Bung Bratak Heritage Centre, Tondong Old Town, etc.
Tasik Biru (literally mean Blue Lake) is one of the attractions in Bau District. The man-made lake is a former gold mining pit site, located near the old town centre of Bau. There is a small resort called Roxy Tasik Biru which offers visitors floating chalets, paddle boat rides, cycling boat rides, etc. Visitors can walk on a floating bridge across the lake. Here, there is also the Bau Bicentennial Bridge. There is an old Chinese temple at the top of the hill at the lake. Here, visitors can eat and drink at the Tasik Biru Food Village.
The Golden Hill Taoist Temple is a Chinese temple at the hill near Tasik Biru. The renovated 200-year old Taoist temple can be accessed by a tarmac road and also by a jungle trekking pathway 1km Miner’s Walk trail. Here, there is a 30m glass bridge overlooking the Tasik Biru and panoramic views of Bau Town and beyond.
