I love how Ven at the end just says “okay” like he knows he can’t persuade Vanitas and just accepts it. Sora’s not used to that shit, he really wanted to bring Vanitas to the light like how he got back Riku. I really wish Vanitas could’ve chosen a different path /: I hope they bring him back
He probably won’t be brought back consistently that there’s about to be several more entities like Vanitas in KH4 and beyond since it was revealed that Vanitas is literally a manifestation of Darkness itself, like not Ven’s, but a primordial dark being that’s bent on nothing but the expansion of darkness
Maybe this is proof that darkness isn't inheritly good or evil. Because even darkness loves the light in this game. It seeks it, captures and contains it but it will eventually set it free.
well xehanort, despite everything, IS a creature of light (by that i mean inhabitant of the realm of light). don't know how much good there is in the heartless or any other inhabitants of the realm of darkness. "darkness" is in KH quite often equated with negative emotions like sadness and anger, don't know how much good in that is either. vanitas death honestly seems to indicate that a creature made purely of darkness, like vanitas, is not even slightly interested in being "nice".
I think you’re right. I mean, light and dark aren’t the true constants. Darkness isn’t evil when it is the cool night that soothes a weary soul. And the light isn’t good when it becomes too bright to help you see the right way. And take Master Xehanort in the end. After he got the x-blade, he didn’t even care about darkness anymore; all of a sudden he’s this philanthropist who says “I’m not evil; it’s everyone ELSE who’s evil! Purge the worlds with dark and have the light of Kingdom Hearts rebuild them!” How is darkness OR light good in that scenario? I’m just saying, I think it was the evil in the worlds that eventually turned his clear eyes yellow. But I digest. Light and darkness aren’t the constants; balance is maintained between them as the warm light invigorates and the cool dark comforts. Abstracts went way out of whack here, but that’s what happens when a game series’ lore gets a little too crazy. 😆
lmao you're all "we can be whatever we want to be" until someone wants to be darkness but it is kind of like if your brother is a drug addict lol you can be whatever you want to be, just not that lol
I think it's moreso that he doesn't understand why Vanitas is okay with being what he is. But Vanitas doesn't _need_ Ventus to understand because _he_ knows, and he accepts it.
Remember people: Vanitas wasn't always like this. When he was born, he was exactly like Ven, but Xehanort whooped him into what he is today. Xehanort pushed him to harness negativity, not just darkness. As someone else stated in the comments, negativity is worse than darkness. The Unversed are by nature more dangerous than the Heartless. The Unversed exist to spread negativity, straight from their "hivemind" Vanitas. Heartless exist to search for other hearts from pure instinct. They do not care about feelings or causing harm as they do what they only know what to do to thrive.
You really think Xehanort had anything to do with who he is? That he was just a broken boy that had no other choice but to go with Xehanort? Wrong. Vanitus is pure evil. This would've happened without Xehanort. If my theory is correct Vanitus is controlling Ventus in KHUX is causing disasters under the name Darkness
@@Nite-Rise Of course he's pure evil with or without Xehanort. I said that Xehanort whooped him into what he is as what his goals were, how he is portrayed in the game. He gave him an extra boost of giving him a purpose. It's a no brainer that Vanitas is evil because he is the darkness extracted from Ven's heart. As for UX, that game came AFTER BbS. It probably wasn't even a thought back then when these characters were first introduced. The fact that they have Ven in that game is honestly B.S. in my opinion.
I really love the last scene because (not only high def Vanitas oml hes so fucking pretty) but also simply because of the fact Vanitas is the outlier of the bad guys. He hasn't *turned* to the dark side. He just...is dark. His only dog in this fight was to be closer to Ventus and Sora. (physically and/or emotionally cuz it seems like he wants one or the other sometimes.) Tbh i was surpised Ventus was able to accept that. it feels like something *ROXAS* would do, since Roxas (at least in the past) is the more mature of the (3? Let's just stick with 3) 'Soras'. Ventus begrudgingly accepting that Vanitas just decides to stay on the opposite side because Vanitas believes that's where he belongs says a lot. I get why Sora is against it; Riku in a way is his 'Vanitas' and he was able to persuade him back to light. But with Riku it was different. Vanitas was made of darkness--specifically Ventus' darkness--and if that's where he wants to stay then there cant be much done about it. He does in fact care about Sora and Ventus, and while he's on opposite side he does stand with them in a way. and that's all Ventus can really ask for.
"We should be free to choose. Not just light, not just darkness. We decide what we are" Me: Nice one, Ventus. You've stolen Sora's thunder there. That sounds like something he WOULD say...
Well.. I wouldn't say he stole his thunder... the two of them think alike and there's an obvious reason for that... technically it felt more like Sora was going to steal what Ventus was going to say... it felt more appropriate for Ven to say it than Sora since Vanitas came directly from Ventus so it makes sense for Ven to say it to Vanitas. Sora was going to say "But I didn't ask for this" when that wasn't very appropriate for him to say as it was for Ventus... Vanitas was originally and mainly apart of Ventus. And that line "We should be free to choose. Not just light, not just darkness. We decide what we are" again him and Sora are similar in personality so I can not outright blame him for saying something that Sora would say when technically... it's the other way around...
Roxas 101100 right? You beat me to it, they made everyone look like chumps but Sora, Riku was literally getting his ass handed by one demon tower while he’s basically at his peak, Aqua beat that thing away several times in the RoD but Riku and Mickey can’t even stand a chance for more than a minute? They didn’t let anyone else do any real fighting other than Sora in the moments where you think they should’ve done more.
I always found his final words to be extremely true to his whole life, he's literally a being of darkness and he accepted himself for it. Sure it's all he's ever know how to be but knowing there's some other paths he could easily take he simply stuck to his own, he's darkness and that's fine by him
Both sora and vanitas were voiced by the same guy, so the scenes where sora and vanitas talk to each other haley joel osment is having a conversation with himself xD
Repliku and riku to Roxas and ven to Xion and kairi to And maybe namine and someone else to if SOMEONE lived inside kairi's heart like namine and kairi are COMPLETELY different
Sully was seriously MVP here, not cause of throwing vanitas through that door, but because he used vanitas's own negative emotions against him. Whats one of the worst negative emotions? An emotion strong enough to make vanitas drop his keyblade? FEAR.
I think I this game would’ve been leaps and bounds better if Vanitas betrayed Xehanort and took the X-Blade for himself, this becoming the final boss. Xehanort: why did you betray me?! Vanitas: Because I’m fucking evil remember?!
@@brianlam7879 remember sora told larxene when she was gonna "die" that they were all gonna be reconnected implying all the organization members were gonna go back to where they were in their timelines like young xeanort or turn back to normal like saix. hopefully we get to see them back in KH4 especially the BBS trio and the Roxas trio but my most anticipation is for Vanitas to return this time joining the light like saix did, one can only hope. He's my favorite character like one my top 10 Anti-villain list. God mann he deserved fucking better
You know I just realized SORA is that person in the relationship trying to make it work and ventus is the person who knows what abuse is and deals with toxic relationships responsibly. SORA is every teenager and ventus is a stable abuse survivor. And Vanitas is... what happens when you apply all the makings of a strong stable confident man into a sociopath.
How impossibly stupid must you be to like this pathetic excuse for a videogame? They made us wait 12 years for an all-looks-no-substance shit that had no emotianal tension and resolved nothing about the plot in any meaningful way.... the script is flat out boring and basically nothing happens in the game until the last session which is a flashy mess of rushed nothing... so how is that a 9/10?
@@tribizz9252 Are you saying he's wrong though? More Vanitas would've solved a lot of issues. Let's face it, he's the only one of the Organization members in world's who's looking for a fight.
Villain Motivations: Xehanort: "I wanna see what happens if I start another keyblade war lmao" Some of the Org: "Eh, I don't want to get on that guy's bad side." Xigbar: the man behind the man behind the man behind the man Vanitas: "This gives me a very good chance of getting to beat up Ventus."
it comforts me knowing Vanitas technically can never die or disappear cause he will always be a part of Sora Ven and Roxas, i really hope the “brother” aspect grows now they all have a body
HJO was really good as Vanitas. Here he sounded a little more slithering, especially in the final fight. I have enjoyed his performance, I jsut wihsed he would have aimed for more VA roles but alas. Vanitas, a strange and defiently eveil character that myabe in the end just choose to be that way cause he was created that way.
@@yungbreezy36 first no need for name calling, Second don't get defensive you are not xehanort and it's just a joke. At the same time he did try to get an underage ventus' body, then terra's, even his heartless got in riku
It kind of feels like there's a heavy contrast between the way Vanitas was in BBS and the way he is now, but it kind of makes sense. In BBS, Vanitas was almost that cliché, teenage baddie with a lot of attitude. He was overconfident, taunting, condescending, ect. He even wanted to get rid of Ventus and seemed to consider him not good him to merge with. Now, however, it's been years, and it seems like Van's been through a lot. He seems like a person who's been starved of something like touch. Even his voice being a bit different seems fitting to me. Raspier, like he hasn't been able to talk much. And it's positively dripping with obsession and longing. Van's always been theatrical to be sure, but now it really feels like he's hamming it up. He's obsessed with both Ventus and Sora. He can't emphasize enough that he needs them. They are the oasis he's been looking for after being lost and incomplete for all this time.
Azure Absence I know this is a year old- but I absolutely agree! I was trying to figure out his difference of emotion from BBS to KH3 but that explains it really well! It makes me curious if the longer he is without interaction of his other halves, would he become more broken down? More desperate? It would seem off but at the same time I could see that being a normal reaction to have when put in a situation like that!
@@Daniwolf9005 Yeah, I think you're right. He'd probably just get worse. I could see him eventually becoming completely feral if left alone long enough.
Notice how the greeting party for The Guardians are literally all Xehanort and THEN Vanitas? Notice how Terra-Nort isn't there. I like to think these were the four individuals Xehanort trusted most.
God i need to know the ost that plays in the monster inc scene, it's just perfect! And btw i think that vanitas should've had a major impact on KH3, but hey, better than not having him at all, am i right final fantasy characters?
Sora: How is that possible? Boi! Do you have any idea how many hearts are connected to yours?! You’re the literal “call the boys and the whole hood shows” of this series.
One plot hole that always bothered me: Sora seems so shocked at 17:55 to see Vanitas’ face, yet he already saw his face in Dream Drop. Sora even remembers seeing him at 0:32
“And I dissappeared once, but now I'm back, being used by someone again. Seems like forcing me to exist wasn't enough for Xehanort. I hate Xehanort, I hate Ventus, I hate all the rest of you. I hate the world, and now I'm disappearing again. That's how I chose to live.” - Vanitas's character file
Just imagine if Vanitis is much more important to the story, like Ventus. If Vanitas was around inside Ventus from the time of Union Cross (which people are now speculating Vanitas may have been the one to kill Streletzia and that hes been in Ventus this whole time) he could come back out in future games and play another side villain role, whos intentions are now free from Master Xehanort and his own, or maybe, Vanitis has had his own intentions this whole time.....
Kate Noswatudidthere it is heavily implied that vanitas had no face in the beginning of his existence. until ventus and soras heart meet in one of the first scenes of bbs.
@@captasticts8419 actually,in the novel of birth by sleep be get a backstory on vanitas and it says that at first he was a like a heartless Dark , faceless with red dots for eyes after ventus went to sora did vanitas took form
Everybody's talking about how cool of a character Vanitas is (which I agree with) But how can you not laugh your ass off at the height comparison between him and somebody like Xemnas or Ansem?? lmao
While Vanitas’ death scene was worded pretty horribly I actually felt sad. These three could’ve been brothers and comrades but Vanitas chose darkness because he fells the light has no place for a being like him
When you read the novelization, it puts a darker light on this. When Ventus joined Eraqus, Vanitas was tortured by Xehanort and made to believe he and Ventus needed to be one in order to alleviate his pain. It explains his motives in BBS, and in KH3, it makes his speech come off as what he's been made to believe rather than what he truly believes. He can't see himself as anything more than a shadow, the power Xehanort wanted to possess and half of Ventus. His idea of identity is being part of someone else's.
Vanitas I think represents the persona we create based of what we decide what it means to be an adult. We all want to grow up like vanitas wants to be what he is. He decided that's what he is. Its obvious that vanitas looks like Sora and the lore explains why, but symbolically vanitas exists to show us how Sora could've turned out. Sora continually grows and he always chooses good and his friends are living proof of that. But vanitas is the exact opposite, he actively chooses negativity and welcomes it as his life without a second thought or consideration, and the unversed is living proof of that. Watching vanitas in BBS shows his arc clearly. Upon first meeting Ven, Vanitas spooks ven into "growing up," making him fearful of living in his "tiny world" and prophecizing Terra's change after leaving.
My favorite part about Vanitas' final cutscene is how mature Ventus was at Vanitas choosing darkness. He didn't argue further once Vanitas said his choice was clear. He accepted it and let Vanitas go
Can Vanitas be redeemed. After KH3 it's clear he is a grey character, someone who isn't fully dark or light but rather between the two. He is (pure) darkness but not pure evil. I think it would be amazing for the players to play as Vanitas in a upcoming game.
He is one of the 13 original darknesses, they kinda want to be friends with the "Light" but where really socially akward and ended up screwing things with the master of master ending in a full blown war between both sides
They are Donald heals sora in a cutscene in recom when larxene was about to take him out In kh2 Areith heals yuffie against the 1000 heartless battle In bbs Mickey heals ventus after he saves him from vanitas
I love how they just chuck Van through a door then through that door through another then another and I think oneeee more before shredding that last door like 10 out of 10 removal method guys.
Man, Haley Joel Osmit, I miss his KH2 voice, ik the voice actor is old, but goddamn, he sounds so different, at least he didn't get replaced, or else my childhood would of been wrecked.
19:37 With Vantias' departure, I don't believe he's completely gone. One day, Sora and/or Ventus are going to need help in the future, and that's when I think Vantias will show up and be all like "I'm only here to return the favor, after all you did help me see things alil clearly". Darkness isn't always that bad, you can reflect on it and it can become your greatest weapon. Riku is proof of that
the whole dialogue cutscene at the end between vanitas and sora and ven is just a 10/10 well written script just like 99 percent of the rest of kh3 dialogue.
Oh, and just as a reminder on why Ven's bodywas left whole after he shattered his heart in BBS was bc of what Mastet Xehanort did in BBS. Namely forcibly extracting the darkness from Ven and forming Vanitas, which meant his heart only has light. And, as you may recall from the case of the Seven Princesses of Heart like Kairi... losing your heart just puts you in a time locked coma.

"darkness" is in KH quite often equated with negative emotions like sadness and anger, don't know how much good in that is either. vanitas death honestly seems to indicate that a creature made purely of darkness, like vanitas, is not even slightly interested in being "nice".
@@marcyrei7080 .....................................

Oh please, this guy will always be evil. With and without Xehanort. Vanitus has proven before he doesn't mind going against Xehanort's orders
@@Nite-Rise And this was how far after he was born? Did you even read my comment correctly?
Actually if you search him on Fandom it will say he was like ventus but xehanort made him become evil
RIP people who thought Vanitas would somehow be redeemed in this game.

I acrually quite enjoy it, conseidering the guy who commits mass genocide on multiple interdeomensional planes gets a sympathetic ending
(physically and/or emotionally cuz it seems like he wants one or the other sometimes.)
Tbh i was surpised Ventus was able to accept that. it feels like something *ROXAS* would do, since Roxas (at least in the past) is the more mature of the (3?
Yeah when you put it that way,,he did kinda still fought along side them, even if he's not in the light with them

"We should be free to choose. Not just light, not just darkness. We decide what we are"
Me: Nice one, Ventus.
Well, they were linked for 15-16 years, so they’re bound to share a personality
TwoCool115 they’re linked 10 years, Sora was fourteen for the first game
I think the real culprit of who stole not only Ventus's thunder but everyone's Thunder throughout the whole game was Sora Donald and Goofy lol
Roxas 101100 right? They didn’t let anyone else do any real fighting other than Sora in the moments where you think they should’ve done more.

You can tell that Haley Joel Osment is having SO much fun voicing Vanitas, which makes his scenes always so fun to watch.

Vanitas should have gone back into Ventus and given back Ven’s darkness, then he won’t have to feel alone.
Ven: We should choose who we are
Vanitas: I choose darkness
Ven: WHY DID YOU CHOOSE DARKNESS????
Vanitas answer: Because i am darkness, dear Ventus.
“Exists to show us how Sora could have turned out” I see a similar comparison with Lightning and Chick (you know, from Cars?)
2:05 And that is how monster inc came to be perfect for vanitas.
No ones gonna talk about how If it wasn’t for aqua barrier everyone would’ve been blown away and the place would’ve been destroyed

Vanitas: Join your heart... WITH MINE!
