Best Wrench Organizer ever, with French Cleat BONUS

- I've been organizing the shop. This wrench rack or wrench organizer video shows what I've come up with regarding wrench storage, as well as socket, and other tool storage. Super easy build, and the bonus integration into the popular french cleat wall that just kind of popped into my head well after the design adds another level of utility. Wasn't sure how useful a wrench organizer would be, but after using these wrench racks over the last few months, I'm surprised at just how much I really like them. I have also come to realize a much greater benefit of using these modular tool holders. It practically forces you to put the tools away when your done. If you leave a tool on the bench or floor and glance at the wrench rack, its basically screaming at you to get that wrench or socket and make the rack full again. Since my racks are always in the open, on the side of my toolbox, or on my french cleat wall, they will constantly yell at me if they aren't full of tools. Never have to search for the 10 millimeter ever again! This truly has been a gamechanger in my shop. Simply had to share.
I've included some links to magnets like the ones I used in this video, and if you purchase any of these products from my links, I think I might actually make a penny or 2. Honestly though, there are so many to choose from, it doesn't really matter if you buy the ones I've linked or some other version. A magnet is a magnet, search for the best prices you can find. They really are great for so many things, only your lack of imagination can hold you back. Give it a try.

I like the way you designed this. It’s refreshing to see someone who finds a functional design. You know how to think!
The ideas on this channel are genius! Hope more is coming!!!!
This video is 2 years old! The algorithm really needs to do better at getting this kind of content in front of the target audience.
This is ingenious!
I agree with you about YT's Al-Gore-Rhthym ....they're always showing me stuff I already watched; or stuff I'm not interested in (While ignoring stuff that I actually have expressed interest in, by having clicked on them)...but I'm sure glad that THIS video showed up on my home page!
I like these!
The issue I have with the socket organizer is the sockets are upside down.
If you turn the drive side up, you find the socket you want, then just put your ratchet right into the hole, no removal needed. Right from holder to ratchet!
That's an awesome idea - I'm totally stealing it.
Interesting idea, maybe I'll try it. Thanks
Great Video! Thank you for pronouncing "height" correctly. You've restored my faith in us DIY folks.
I love the modular part... (ur sockets too) because u put them away while using them. When ur done u wanna go, not stand there and go .... umm 1/2 in ... here... 14mm.... uummm...
Saves time, if you got the wrong size... starting a project.
Saves time, cleaning up... end project.
*GENIUS* Keep up the vids, thank you
Hey Woodworker Anon, very nice ideas, videos and explanations. Please consider creating more content for us!
Thanks for checking in. I know I have neglected this channel for a while, but I am planning to add more content soon. I have lots of project videos I never edited, just got busy on real life jobs. Stay tuned, I will try and get some stuff out soon.
Like others have said...once you showed the side of the crib with the tools at the ready, man, the time saved versus the time creating these, exponential...excellent job and creativity for what we all suffer with.
Man, really beautiful, the best wrench organizer and really love the sound when the wrench get back
Agreed, it is the best. Thought it was clickbait, but nope. Nice clear instructions too. Will be using these on my lathe "tool tree".
You mentioned sticking these to the car while working on said car. I can see being under the car, getting done with the project and forgetting the holder and all the tools stuck to the bottom of the vehicle. I have done something similar while using a pair of locking pliers clamped to a part of the car and forgetting them, (also done that with a magnetic bolt tray) finding them a year of more later all rusty. Totally my fault but mechanics will know this does happen. I do think this is a great project and I plan on making my own version, thanks for the tip's
This is GREAT! They're portable; easy to access, and versatile! I'm gonna make some! Thanks for such a great idea!
Have fun! Thanks for commenting
Ok - I was like, "Well, this is... ok." But then when you showed the shot of the side of your tool chest - OH YEAH!!!! That's nice, man. That's real nice. Oh, and by the way, that's a nice bike.
So now, 2 of my son's have bikes as well as a couple of their friends, and this roll around toolbox gets a lot action. This system has proven to keep things organized and better yet, tools always get put back where they belong. Never was the case before. Not tooting my own horn, it really is a game changer for me and my messy kids.
ya got my vote...........that is THE BEST WRENCH ORGANIZER EVER.
I like the approach and the explanation, thank you.
My question is, do the tools get magnetized over time and start collecting all the metal dust in the shop?
Havent had that issue. If I had a metal lathe or something like that maybe it would be different. Tools have been in these holders a couple years now, not showing any magnetic properties.
One of my pet peeves is magnetized tools. I'm always grinding metal and I don't like metal dust all stuck to my tools. So I do share your concern. But I've also got a degaussing plate in my shop too. Because I really don't like magnetized stuff. I don't use magnetic tool holders and sometimes it still happens. I've seen drill bits get magnetized. How does that even happen? It is one of the great mysteries in my life. Metal chips will just start sticking to the things. So when I see that they get the plate treatment. I'll say this, demagnetizing tools is deeply satisfying for some strange reason. Because it really does annoy me. It's like removing a splinter or something.
thank you for sharing the information. very good ideas
Love it. I will be making these. Thank you for sharing.
Hey, add a spot above your ratchets for an extension and wobbly.
Ready for the screwdriver and plier racks. Thanks for you awesome videos.
Looks great👍
I will be making these what an awesome project
Used your design and plan thanks… would send pictures don’t know how to do that. Thanks again
Love this. Really good idea. But I can't have wood at work but if I could I wound rock this
use delrin or something similar.
we use various plastics for tool organization.
You can get HDPE. It works like wood. Just doesn't glue like wood. If you find a pro sign shop they have scraps and scrap HDPE is worth 2 cents a pound. So it's basically not worth hauling for that price. Although a sheet of HDPE is pretty expensive. Plastic cutting boards are HDPE too. Sometimes I pick them up if I see them cheap used. HDPE is nice stock to have in the shop.
Nice project, looks very handy indeed.
Hi very nice ❤
I like your videos man. Come back and make some more!
Thanks friend. I have many unedited project vids on the shelf. But no time. Stay subscribed, and eventually I will get to them. Busy with new job right now.
Awesome man.
This is a fantastic example of out-of-the-box thinking! Great video with super tips also tHanks
(I haven't posted the videos yet but I use the cleats to hold some tools. Your magnet system is the needed improvement)
Awesome...great system
I liked it so much, I gave it a "Like" 3 minutes into the video! Well done.
Thanks, appreciate the feedback.
awesome videos thank you very much.are you going to post anymore videos soon?
Yes that is the best. Nice job.
Another great build
Thanks man
Like it! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wish I would have thought of this 40 yrs ago.
Ótima ideia para guardar as chaves de boca🇧🇷
As long as they're in a climate controlled place, the ones i left in my garage got rusty. Now i keep them all in a designated room in my house- in the drawers. 🎉Nice work
Wow. Where do you live that it would rust inside a garage?
@@jeffa847 any humid summer day would do it, any tool that is not well chromed. It happens on all the cheaper tools, all the bit adapters, nut drivers, but perhaps not sockets ... if that makes sense
@@jeffa847 where I live the humidity hits 98% regularly. So I buy WD-40 by the gallon jug and spray it like it's water. Stuff still rusts. Then I wire wheel it and hose it with the juice.
Perfect
Great video…. Scanned it and am convinced I’ll be watching a couple times in detail when I build four for wood shop and garage tools. Where did you get the labels?
Amazon of course. Just search for socket labels. 👍
What an amazing idea!!!!
I did something like what you did in college when they had 4 drawer Snap-On toolboxes. I hated my wrenches unorganized. Everytime I picked it up or put it back they move around. So I took them and one scrap 2x4 my wrenches all stayed in one spot.
This is the fastest and clearest access to tools that can still be used in different places.
Disadvantage:
Iron attracting metals and space.
Everything has its pros and cons, I don't think you can change it much more.
It stays in the top 10.
Nice! 👍
Brilliant
Oh hey a Snap-Up!!
You could also use round magnets on one f 5he sides of the spacers.
I have 3 of every size up to 3/4 and then 2 of each to one & 1/16th inch. I'm using screws in a piece of pallet wood and I'm looking for something a little nicer. I'm a heavy truck mechanic and am maxing out a 72 inch box so I don't have any spare room. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated 🙂
Great video. I like it! How did you get the holes for the sockets the exact sizes. Adjustable wood bit for some?
I have a build video of the socket tray, check it out. All is explained.
This completely eliminates the need for a tool box for wrenches. If you magnetically attached the tool carriers to a piece of sheet metal imagine the space you would save. Good use of the imagination. I've got a 2013 Electra Glide FLHTP for sale if anybody is interested. Retired so no need for a police bike anymore. Holla.
Awesome wrench holder! Quick question: Why did you double the magnets and present the edge to the wrenches instead of using a single magnet flat?
Would that have made the pull too great and hard to remove the wrenches?
Doubling the magnets seemed like a good way to strengthen their hold on the wrenches. Just seemed like the way to do it. No reason you couldn't try it in the other orientation. And I wouldn't worry about the magnetic attraction being to great, my worry was the exact opposite.
@@brett328 Awesome. Thanks!
Ya! More stuff in the drawers! Lol!
Looks nice, but would take up way too much space for me.
I picture a box with all these tools stuck all over the outside of it on every surface and nothing in the box.lol
There are lots of tools in the drawers believe me, wish I could put more on the outside. Things like Large wrenches, torque wrenches, soldering equipment, various odd shape pliers and snips, tap and die sets, gear pullers, impact guns, etc, etc ... I'll never have empty drawers, always some tools stored up on shelves for lack of drawer space.
Can't the bar magnets - exposed in the back - stick it to your metal cabinet
Not strong enough to hold the weight.
Is it termite proof ?
Nice project. Why does it remind me of a xylophone?
Kinda see what you mean 😜
For those of us that can't measure, and couldn't tell a table saw from a tabletop.... Do you make these for sale? Say if a person sent you a wrench kit, and you returned a holder? I looked on Etsy for a woodworker, no luck.
I appreciate the offer, haven't really considered that. But honestly I dont think I could make them and sell them at a price that would make my time worth while, AND at a price that people would be willing to pay. This is more of a hobbyist type or DIY type project that I feel is worthwhile for individuals who spend a lot of time in the workshop.
A project like this is pretty approachable for people of entry level talent. It'd take you a while but you'd get it eventually. Basic woodworking is an extremely valuable skill to possess. It is universally applicable. When you have the ability to knock things together that you need it opens up a world of possibilities. There's not a direction I can look where I won't see something I've made. But woodworking is a discipline. You have to approach it methodically. It's like building a house. You have to lay the foundation first. If you're starting from nothing then you must begin at the beginning. My first woodworking workbench was a heavy plank of wood. Which I quickly realized was inadequate. So I made another bench.
👏👏
Nice wrench holder,h freight has holder and wrench set for five dollars
Sounds nice
yes they do but will not hold the wrenches waste of money. Very nice idea thank you is looks like it will work
Sell kits!
The thing is, every set of wrenches has a unique set of dimensions. thickness, width, height, etc... There are literally thousands of different wrench sets out there. So this truly is a shop project for the DIY'er. But its pretty easy to do, fun, and rewarding too.
It’s to bad Biden inflation will charge you $100 for a piece of plywood and $10 for a 2x4. This would have been a good idea. I can’t even afford to make a tool organizer out of cardboard.
Oh please stop with this childish nonsense already. Lumber prices have been insane for years. Why do idiots feel the need to inject politics into literally every discussion.
😂
