That's a C19 connector, the difference between the C 13 is that C13 is rated for 10A and C19 is for 16A, it's very common on bigger UPS like you have there.
Nice fix. Corrosion and moisture ingress is the root of all Pcb evil!
You've now got me looking at my own UPS system.....maybe it's time for an upgrade.
That plug is 16A C20, IEC60320
Nice job tracking down the open trace. That plug in the beginning is an IEC C19, used on 16A/250 VAC international or 20A/125-250 VAC North America.
Defpom magic, thanks much Scott.
UPSs always run the charger at maximum possible float voltage, to get best runtime with new batteries. This results in premature battery ageing. Drop the float from where it is (a truly horrific 14.2V) to 13.2V, and you'll get 75-80% of nominal runtime and extend the battery life to 5y+.
I had no idea NZ was so bad for battery prices, here in the Old Dart you'd pay no more than £15 a piece for decent 7Ah SLAs
EDIT: Fans are considered a consumable in the UPS business xD
Nice fix
Good find. Over the years have seen tracks and vias disappeared underneath conformal coating due to corrosion. Bad PCB manufacturing process.
Nice one!
Nice fix. In this case it wasn't the capacitor.
I probably would have removed the oxidized solder. You just diluted the oxidized portion by adding more solder.
For the plug, i would have used some heatshring tubing, adhesive lined preferred, it's not a good idea to risk the screws not being properly engaged ;)
That's a higher current than the domestic iec cables. Around 15A. Used on a lot of high power equipment in data centres for one.
Uups!...You Did It Again
The Aishi caps can be alright. They have good stuff and bottom barrel ones at bottom barrel prices. Using the cheapest series in the worst conditions possible is very conducive to premature failure, so they're not outright bad for not standing up to way out of spec levels of abuse.
Looks more like "home office" UPS oriented to the people who doesn't know what REAL industrial UPS are tested to and capable of...
But - thank you, interesting video, as always!
There's usually only one way to get rid of the beeping - destroy the bloody buzzer or put tape over it to make it less.. annoying 😂
Try bluetack or hot glue if you must. Tape will still let the pressure inside the chamber cause the tape to vibrate, but with a thick enough barrier it won't. Piezo discs are silent and just tick/click if you put your finger on the disc itself. 🙂
Will you be replacing the fans, or repairing them?
@@AnnaVannieuwenhuyse that is up to Rob, I have it back without touching those, just like the batteries.
Yup, as Scott says anything further is up to me if I choose too or give it back to our ISP whom owns it, yet he might not wanna invest more in it so we might get gifted it. Again we thank Scott for his deeper dive into it that I couldn't find time for.
It's definitely a UPS. I would dispute the "Industrial" UPS bit.
Duracells, shitty fans, cheap caps.
great repair
