  • The Delta, with its fine-grained, dark soils and sometimes significant pressures from tough weeds, such as Palmer amaranth, or extreme weather, such as a slow-moving hurricane, demands special skills from its cotton growers. Soil health challenges in the region include poor internal soil drainage and excessive runoff. In this video, Sledge Taylor, a cotton farmer from Commo, MS, discusses how he is using no-till and multispecies cover crops on his 4500-acre farm with a goal of capturing more rainfall in order to provide crops with water at crucial times of the year. The discussion includes his no-till planter set up, selecting, planting, and terminating cover crops along with soil health benefits he has observed.
