Muddstah, you a real homie for keeping these fire edh games consistent
They might not be perfect, but they're usually on time!
I laughed at the outcome of the 'deal'. Very good politicking on Trevor's Part.
That deal to blow the humility was so stupid hahaha. He already knew all the cards he was holding, he even had a way a returning vorinclex. Such a big misplay.
"Lets make a deal" is usually followed by a win in 90% of commander games.
Theron Smith thats true. I dont know why matt acepted that deal if it was good for him to have humility on the field...
Hahaha facts
@@FernandoRojas-py6fn he wanted those angels lol
Hey man just want to send you some love. I had to move away from my playgroup due to work and I've been getting my fix through your channel and your videos bring me so much happiness and comfort. Keep up your fantastic work and may the draw be in your favor ;)
Triskellion having 2 counters and -2/-2 from the deluge means he can't kill Matt during that turn. (if one counter is removed, trisk dies with one leftover counter and doesn't proc undying)
It still works at Matt's upkeep though.
(by the way, did you know you had to ping triskellion himself once each loop to get it going ?)
Interesting!
Yes, in the traditional combo you need to use Triskelion to ping itself. In this game with the Altar of Dementia he didn't need to.
Not with altar of dementia on the field, lol.
@Varler Yep.
@Varler nope. if a creature has -2/-2 and you try to remove a +1/+1 counter while the creature has 0 toughness it will die immediately due to stated based action.
Actually, Triskelion had THREE counters (it gets an extra thanks to Undying), and once the Mask was gone, all counters could be sent at Matt, making Trike 0/0 with no counters and continuing the combo.
Mhh I don't think the decks were on an equal power level here :/
Two more lessons from this game:
1. Don't waste your Force of Will on something like a fairly inconsequential board wipe. FoW as well as it's little brother Pact of Negation should only generally be used to win the game or not lose the game.
2. If you have the chance to take out a combo piece into exile like Muddstah did with the Ghastlord you should probably take it. Especially when its dangerous on it's own like Mike is.
Aww yes the Master of Muscles, Trevor.
Love that intro for Trevor
This has been the worst deal in the history of deals, maybe ever.
You, good sir, haven't watched the Ravnica Allegiance episode of GameKnights...
Ya, the Mono White player should probably look up what playing control means.
I’ve thought this for a couple videos now: I like the Dive Into The Heart music playing softly in the background
Okay, about Deluge VS Triskelion + Mikaeus issue:
Triskelion had three +1/+1 counters (Trevor had gained an extra counter thanks to Mikaeus, but used it to get rid of the Mindcensor), then Toxic Deluge kicked in and gave every creature -2/-2, leaving Triskelion a 3/3 thanks to the +1/+1 counters (don't forget Triskelion has base 1/1 and gets +1/+1 from Mikaeus himself, in addition to the Undying counters). Then, once the Caterpillar got rid of the Mask, Triskelion only had to use all of its counters on Matt in order to continue the combo.
Long story short, there were no misplays in Trevor's final moves, and either way, he could always ping himself in response to the Deluge in order to ensure Triskelion would die with no counters.
Oh... I was looking for tips for my Meren, and now I get to see her in action. Awesome!
You want tips for Meren casual or hardcore? Lol
Yet you got no tips for her since he didnt use her xD
"Action"... Quite a lame combo with Mikaeus. Could be in any commander deck :(
Gotta say I love the description of each deck at the beginning of the video
"Which transforms my card into a giant pile of glare". I love random editorial commentary like this.
Congratulations on 39k! Jeez Muddstah, I would say slow down but I'm happy for you! Love your channel, and maybe, in a couple years, if your still active I shall join you!
14:25 "He had to fight through" heh, not really, he had Survival of the Fittest. Finding your combo + artifact/enchantment removal with that isn't exactly hard.
Wild research is an insanely strong card. glad to see it seeing play Muddstah!
That is an awesome Mirko Vosk deck!
I hope when you move to Canada we get to see louis play Heliod. That would be a huge throwback
I haven't seen Louis in forever! That'd be awesome.
Muddstah! You didn’t know my moonhold existed either until I played it
"Fugue" is pronounced with a hard G. (And while we're at it, I've also been wanting to point out for a while now that "slough" is pronounced "sluff".) English nerdrage aside, though, good stuff. :)
good stough ;)
I'm a bit disappointed by the fact that most players who run Mikaeus + persist creatures don't put Puppeteer Clique in their decks... that creature is awesome. :(
I'm running it in my Kresh deck with the Ashnod's/Deathmantle combos as well. It's alot of fun. The reasoning though is that out of all of the combo options, Puppeteers is the one that doesn't win you the game when you combo off. Woodfall Primus wipes their boards, Murderous Redcap kills everyone, KitchenFinks gives you infinite life (the worst of the three).
Well, Meren can't run Redcap, Finks or Twilight Shepherd, which makes Clique the second best...
Even without the combo, Puppeteer Clique is great for its value alone: it can chump-block twice in the air (you would not believe the amount of players that swung at me with fliers without realizing Clique also had flying), gets a hasty creature for a swing at no additional cost (and you can also benefit from their ETBs) and, if you don't want the opponent to make use of that creature again, it gets exiled when you're done with it.
Thanks for all the work you do!
I just found my 2011 Zedruu bent in half when going through my collection. :(
I'm hoping it'll bend back by being crammed between books for a few days. Otherwise, I'll need to order another one.
(It was a soft taco bend, no creases that I could see.)
I’m still wondering why you would exile a Living Death instead of Mikaeus, the king of combos. What a throw my man.
13.20 -> does casting toxic deluge then casting caustic cater makes caustic caterpillar alive? Isn't the toxic deluge effect clouds until end of turn?
#TeamTrevor - It was great seeing you all have fun, but I love Meren. Wish I would've seen her more on the field this game! :)
As long as Altar of Dimensia was on the battlefield, Trike could be sacrificed to it after removing the last counter to not target itself but another permanent or player. This would still allow for the Undying trigger to happen and Trike would reenter the battlefield with 3 counters on it before Toxic Deluge gave every creature -2/-2. Then Trike would be a 1/1 with one +1/+1 counter and he could continue the combo unhindered.
Correction: the -2/-2 from Toxic Deluge does NOT remove +1/+1 counters from creatures; only actual -1/-1 counters can do that. That being said, Triskelion would be a 3/3 with three counters, and once the Mask was gone, Trevor could use all of the counters on Matt and continue the combo.
Cool to see a Meren deck being played again (still my fav commander) sad to see she didn't do much herself 😅
Meren is my favorite deck. Great game!
I repeat, nice 4 mana sorcery speed brainstrom you got there.
Thanks, let's not forget how much it costs to buy either!
Sweet game! Meren is such a powerful commander, and should never be underestimated! 😀
She almost never survives a rotation if my opponents have removal and I don't have boots...
The spore frog wouldn’t have the ability to sacrifice itself due to humility, but that’s my only complaint. I love me some Mike and Trike
meren was looking really good, awesome
0:26 game starts
Doesn't toxic for 2 stop triskelion for the turn? Undying only triggers if it can die without any +1 counters on it. Because state based actions are checked in between every activation, Trevor shouldn't have been able to use it to win that turn. He had the onboard reanimation, but ordinarily it would not have worked.
Someone pointed that out. Admittedly it would have changed little since Trevor could just do it on Matt's upkeep.
Also he can just sacrifice triskellion to the altar, then do it.
Once the Mask was gone, Trevor could send all of the +1/+1 counters at Matt, making Triskelion a 0/0 with no counters and allowing the combo to continue.
After you played humility why did anyone need to keep lands tapped down from vorniclexs ability since all creatures almost all abilities?
Vorinclex saw lands get tapped for mana. If you tap a land for mana while he's on the field and he still has his ability, his ability still applies to that land regardless of if he sticks around to your untap. Only after he lost his ability were his opponents "safe" to tap their lands
I wanted to see more of redruu and mikes deck
So excited to see meren trying to make one of my own soon!
Can someone explain to me how at 10:22 Mike has to leave lands tapped due to Vorinclex even though Humility is on the board? Is it a layers thing?
The lands were tapped while Vorinclex still had his ability, so it leaves the lands tapped, since Humility came into the battlefield later.
@@cyanideshark136 Ach, brilliant. Thanks!
I see a big pillowfort wall on one side of the table damm
Total misplay on Matt's part there. Humility was very clearly the only thing keeping Trevor in check. Awful deal.
Can someone explain to me why Phyrexian Unlife is worth running? It seems like it’s 3 mana, gain 10 life... if it sticks around. Which doesn’t seem good to me in commander.
Since it says "all damage is dealt to you in infect counters", you literally can't lose through life loss, and there are a couple cards that have life loss as cost, the relevant example because it's used in modern as well is Ad Nauseam
Although I don't know how Zedruu would use it, I found it rather odd to be cast at that point in the game but there could be a combo with something that requires life loss, as said
It's used in a combo with Solemnity so you can't get poison counters, effectively negating Phyrexian Unlife's second ability and making you unable to lose the game through poison AND having 0 or less life.
@@DarkEinherjar say hello to my little Geth!
Huh... Geth? Milling out the opponent? Sure, why not?
Eight-And-A-Half-Tails, a fox after my own heart.
Tithe: the final 'th' is voiced, like in "these", not unvoiced like "birth".
Good to know! I'll try and keep it in mind moving forward. I'm pretty bad at pronunciation sometimes haha.
@@MTGMuddstah It happens. :) I actually thought it might be a play on Merchant's MTGA videos where he consistently mispronounces Tithe Taker (though he mispronounces the 'i').
Sidenote: the "Hall" in Hallowed is generally pronounced like the name "Hal", though that may be regional (I know Halloween varies with region).
The real question is: when will Trevor play muscle wizards?
Wait is Mike's deck when blank deals combat damage?
I don’t think Trevor should have one? If he deluged for 2. The triskaleon should have died with a trigger on the stack with a +1/+1 counter on it. So it would not be able to come back due to undying.
Nope, Mikeaus gives all non-Human creatures +1/+1 in addition to undying, which combined with Trisk's natural 1/1 to let it survive until all the counters are gone.
That's a 200$ mat Trevor is rocking
Wouldn’t vorinclex not have abilities from humility?
i guess your talking about lands not untapping. The lands tapped before humility was cast remain locked
Why Algur of Bolas didn't came back on fumigate (Mikaeus)?
Mikaeus's ability only works on non-Human creatures, and Disciple of Bolas is Human.
Where do you get that cowboy bebop playmat from?
Matt eternally fooled
Good game
So around 11:00 minutes Trevor sacrifices Spore Frog...then attacks you with Vorenclex and you take the damage? Why?
He sacrificed it to Grim Backwoods, not for his ability, so combat damage still occurs
everyone but meren got a superby start, and meren start was not bad either
why woodfall primus get a counter with michaeus on the battlefield? it had persist and undying at the same time.
If a creature with Persist and Undying dies, both trigger at the same time, but they resolve one after the other. One will resolve, bringing the creature back with a counter. When the second tries to resolve, it can't find the creature in the graveyard (since it's already in play), so it does nothing.
Which one resolves first? You choose. Presumably, you'll choose Undying, to bring the creature back with a +1/+1 counter instead of -1/-1 counter, but you can choose Persist if you'd rather have the -1/-1 for whatever reason.
@@ArmadilloAl Thanks you a lot!! so then to make it infinite with any sac outlet i only need to alternate undying and persist triggers.
Mirko vosk was spicy as heck
You got really unlucky with wild research and making that deal with meren was foolish. I saw him winning the game the moment he was willing to give up the vorinclex
I shouldn't have been so cavalier with it when I only had two cards in hand. I should have waited a turn or two without playing anything to increase my chances of keeping whatever silver bullet I needed.
Isnt humility banned..
Nope.
My play group has a saying. Got to kill Meren. She is a very good commander and the later the game goes the more value she proves such is golgari.
Sweet
Why do I feel like I'm preparing a loadout to fight a war?
Betting on zedruu
Fugue is pronounced "Fyoog" oe "fyewg"
Zedruu needs to play more opponent hate shananagins.
This General is capable of causing table flips. I use Zedruu
at my tournaments to help the guy that’s not doing well and
punish the guys always winning. Tee hee. That to me is winning
and having fun.
Terrible choice from the monowhite player to accept the deal from Meren, at least to me who was watching it was obvious Humility was the only thing preventing Meren from winning.
2 card kill combo is dumb.
I disagree on the "Matt shouldn't have made that deal with Trevor" thing. Reason: Humility was wrecking EVERYONE, except Muddstah.
Matt couldn't properly protect his pillow fort without his commander and Humility made the Sigil tokens insignificant, and Mike's entire deck revolves around combat damage triggers from his creatures. What did you expect them to do? Poke Trevor with 1/1s until he was out of the game, meanwhile giving Muddstah time to draw/tutor into HIS combos, or locks? They also got rid of Vorinclex as part of the deal, which was huge. I would've done the same deal without a second thought, even if it meant dying to another combo; Humility is THAT annoying.
By the way, didn't Trevor have Nissa at ultimate range at that point? I'm pretty sure that, if Nissa ult'd, his lands would become 6/6s, which would overwrite Humility because both effects act on the same layer, so the last one prevails.
Second 😁
muddstah! stop playing lands when you are gambling each turn! lol
Always kill Trevor first!!
first
always kill the meren player first
mtg mudstahh very nice voice very bad play! FoW wrath of god what happen
Triskelion + Mikaeus is tooooo boring. Meren can be so fun, why use a silly combo like this one.
Boo, Mikaeus/Triskellion combo is laaaaame. One of my least favourite ways to lose.
