      He was just looking to avoid a bunch of hate mail for building a business offering this service to the insurance companies. He knows they will never lower premiums based on his drone footage. As a matter of fact I am sure the pitch he made to the insurance companies when selling them on his service was that they would most definitely be able to offset the cost of his services and turn even better profits by increasing premiums and dropping long time customers whose properties had increased risk over the life of their policy. I am sure that was literally his sales pitch.

      @lfkatzke, thank you for your clarification. However, that is already understood. I believe the crucial concept here is that if they choose to terminate our business relationship at any time, they should refund the paid amount, as opposed to us voluntarily taking our business to a new company. In the latter case, they retain the money. Over time, a "blacklist" will naturally form, which will deter undesirable customers and maintain high retention with valuable customers.

You aren't entitled to continuation beyond what you've paid, and terminating the relationship doesn't make the insurance you've already received stop existing.
      The only difference in your world is that rates will just be higher from the jump since companies know they can't drop anybody, and anybody who tries to recover damages will be accused of fraud. Because surely if somebody damages their own roof to get back their insurance money, that's not allowable and would be an exception to the refund, but then they could claim that anyone with an ugly roof wasn't doing proper maintenance as a homeowner and wanted their money back for nothing.

      @@j.a.3138 right, there is airspace that is dedicated to that purpose, however it's not typically used for the intentions of directly spying on people. In fact it's technically illegal here in NC to do what these companies are doing, not a lawyer but from my understanding. Flying a drone or what have you for the sole purpose of taking photographs of the house and occupants in some cases is considered peeping similar to a peeping Tom. I imagine it's much more complicated than that, because they love making laws unnecessarily complicated in some cases.
      All in all though it just begs the question of why even have insurance, if all they're going to do is soap dodge any chance they get. I understand reducing unnecessary risks, yet it's getting to the point where we pretty much need to live in perfect little bubbles at this point.

    • @lfkatzke
      @lfkatzke 3 месяца назад

      Let me know how that "self-insurance" thing works out if your home burns to the ground or is leveled in a tornado. A neighbor's kid tried that on his home in a canyon in CA. Wildfire. Burned to the ground. Lost it all. Got sued for the cleanup (Yes, Dorothy, you are required to removed the burned out debris, eliminate/fill in any hazards like a basement or pool, etc.. Ever price the cost of dumpsters and tipping fees for tons of debris, some of which is deemed hazardous?). Ended up as a 50 year old living with his parents. Junk car. No job (parents lived hours away). Yeah. Go ahead. Self-insure. Pure genius.
      My Father always told me when I complained: "All insurance is a waste of money..... until you need it." You only insure what you can't afford to replace and for liability (if a roofer falls off your roof, guess who gets sued? Drunk friend falls on you front walk? You're sued.) You can't get a liability umbrella unless you have minimum coverages on both your home and cars.
      One cause of much of the home insurance premium rise is fraud. Example: People making claims for roof damage that is pure fantasy. Cars? It's the complexity. Some cars (like a Tesla) often get totaled because of the risk of fire if not repaired properly. The fancy LED headlight on my car cost $1,500 each - uninstalled in a box. Aluminum panels. Sensors out the wazoo in the front bumpers. Multiple airbags. Our 2017 vehicle was clipped on the front... bulk of the damage was the plastic bumper cover, one headlight, and the front fender had a small ding. Cost to repair? $9K.
