@@PG-gs5vb Now when I've heard pretty everything by Rob Hubbard - it just SOUNDS like him. If I had to guess that one would be pretty sure. Listen to Commando tune (SID), than this. Same style. When you make chip tunes and BTW you're a guy who kind of invented chip tunes - it's not a big deal to compose something for a "new" chip. BTW, he kind of showed what the POKEY chip was capable of. The ports never sounded that good. As SID is probably just better than POKEY (IDK, the bass is probably unachievable for POKEY) - this tune sounds better on Atari chip.
Sounds a really good copy of c64 sanxion until about the 30 sec mark, then it sounds like a canary is being strangled(high pitched bird squawk noises). It loses something compared to the sid at that point(not a bad version though).
It generally wins compared to the muffled sound of the SID version. It does gets annoying after the 30 sec mark mainly because back then nobody knew how to program and feed softsynth to the Pokey chip. After interacting with Amiga's Paula many got it and improved their compositions. But I do prefer some original SID versions vs the original Pokey one i.e. the "warhawk" soundtrack.
I have real C64c and I think the atari tune is perfect. Other tunes sound better on SID but this one I prefer on Atari. Other tune is Draconus main theme which I prefer on Atari. Commando is epic on C64. But I have never listen to such ruclips.net/video/BiJ1Xsp44ek/видео.htmlfeature=shared stuff on Atari, and honestly I prefer SID chip over all other 8bit platform. Atari could join two voices into one with 16-bit frequency division. It sounds like the bass track is playing on such joined 16-bit voice. Bass was virtually unplayable on 8-bit voice. Too many frequencies were "broken" for bass because the period was coinciding with period of bass distortions.
@@madcommodore not exactly. POKEY can combine channels on the fly to increase accuracy. So you can either have 4 /8bit 3/8bit &16bit and 2/16bit. The good thing with 8bit square waves is that they can be manipulated to a high degree and still sound clear. The following song ("A za oknem pada snieg" by MCCNEX - Atari Atari XL/XE (8bit) Chiptune) shows how this can be achieved (tracker).
My favorite version of this tune. Almost kraftwerk sounding
Fun Fact: Rob Hubbard also did the music for the C64 game Commando
Hubbard made music on the C64?
Who knew.
@@crtxl Man, such talent should get some kind of respectable career. Like at gaming company, or something.
Very good port of this classic tune tbh
It's by Rob Hubbard himself :-)
@@PG-gs5vb Rob didn't convert this. It is a cover released on a budget label game
@@luketaylor1646 It is not. I had contacted Rob back when I had been adding these songs to ASMA and he confirmed they were made by him.
It's the original ;)

How about Jet Set Willy next?
It has already been made:

How did you create the oscilloscope view ?
The correct way to listen to this is 1.25 speed
The Atari 8 Bit got 4 voices. Only 3 curves?
The composer only used 3
@@dava_arvarabi I heard it was Rob himself... So he used only 3? I think on International Karate he used 4 on the Atari.
