If your worried about damaging the roots of the Tetrapanax. Why not build a small natural looking raised pond and have a waterfall from it with a short stream planted each side flowing into a smaller pond in the ground you wanted to the right. Less work and you could have a bridge over the small stream from the waterfall.
Thank you. I think if I go for the pond option then it will be a dig out as I want it to be as natural as possible plus make it accessible for the frogs and wildlife I already have in my garden. Cheers
Omg yes yes! The pond the bridge would look so lush with the plants.. could you possibly put in a barrier to prevent the roots. Pond could have a more solid base laying a good foundation down. Oh I love what you have done with the seating area at first thought it was a bar looking through the walk way. Beautiful Tropical hidden oasis can’t wait to see what you decide 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you. My problem isn’t so much I think the roots from the Tetrapanax will pierce the pond liner I think it’s more that once I sever the roots in the digging process that the remaining roots will sprout all over the garden. Still on the plus side it will just be more free plants. Cheers.
All sounds great bro, look forward to seen your progress it’s a lovely area and the Tetrapanax is magnificent I’ve got 3 planted and just want to fast forward time to see them as a canopy lol
The pond & waterfall ids a great idea no tropical garden is complete with out a water feature. In my garden I have a small pond at end of it and love it
Thank you. Not sure where you are in the world but I would say just watch videos and look at photos of lots of different gardens you like. Pick the best bits and try to do something similar in your own style.
I think the pond/waterfall idea sounds great but I think you’d be opening up a huge can of worms. I would go with the simpler idea of removing slabs to create a staggered path and plant more heavily. How often do you actually sit back there? 3 months out of the year? I’m all for water features but that doesn’t seem to be the best location. If you were starting with a blank slate I would say go for it. Just my 2 cents. I know whatever you do will look great. 👍
Cheers. I think I agree with you. My heart says I want the pond my brain says I don’t think it’s the right place. Personally I sit down there a lot even when colder. It’s the furthest part away from the house and the most peaceful. I think I might remove the paving slabs and see what space I have to work with first. Cheers I really appreciate the comment.
Cheers. To be honest I wish my garden was much bigger. If I had an acre I don’t think it would be enough that’s the problem with this type of gardening. There will always be new plants to grow and ideas to try. Still I can’t complain.
Hi and thank you for the comment. If I build the pond I really need to keep it in the area that is patio at present. That way I don’t have to dig up mature plants that I really like. Cheers.
My first thought was koi pond; it would look amazing there as would any pond/stream to be honest. We have a pond under a wisteria which is a nightmare twice a year but totally worth it! Whatever you go for may I suggest getting some Sarracenia to go with it. They are amazing but also addictive; you have been warned 😅
@@tikitropicals65 yes this is true; sorry I got carried away with the idea 😅however there are a few that can handle semi shade like Sarracenia x catesbae and huntmans cap.
Lift slabs plant around the edges would work better and gravel it with probably a few slabs set in and still have large rocks around in certain areas of the edges with ground ferns
You're an experienced guy, but all this talk of lifting patio slabs is triggering my PTSD. I lifted some slabs in an old patio earlier this year. Well, the amount of rubble/building material that was underneath just a few slabs was traumatising. I hope you did the patio and that a world of sin wasn't buried beneath it.
Your garden is amazing!
Thank you.
Yes! A bridge with a waterfall - Wow!!!
Cheers. I can see it in my mind. If it happens and turns out how I hope then I do feel it could be a wow factor in the garden.

You've done a really awesome job!
Thank you.
Jungle stream FTW! It will look spectacular with the planting.
Cheers. I think it will look better as a pond it’s just if it works under the big Tetrapanax that I’m unsure about.
I look forward to seeing your progress. A jungle stream will be amazing.
Cheers

Free plants always a bonus 👍

Large pond, bridge, no brainer. Make it so. Great content lately. Cheers.
Thank you Alan.

Thank you. I agree that water is a key part of creating the atmosphere in a Tropical garden. Just need to find the time to do it.
Pond, stream and bridge would look great a real focal point, with lush planting,a definite must 😊
Thank you. I think I need to start planning.
A wildlife pond and steam will look fantastic, I look forward to seeing what you come up with, it will look amazing with all the plants you have
I feel like a pond is the best option. It’s just another job on the list of things I need to do. Cheers.
Pond with a waterfall and bridge 🤘
Thank you.
Dude I'll take your garden as is.. I'm now trying to start mine and it's a daunting task.
Thank you. Not sure where you are in the world but I would say just watch videos and look at photos of lots of different gardens you like. Pick the best bits and try to do something similar in your own style.
Definitely a stream of some sort.
Cheers. I feel it needs to happen.
Lovely garden
Thanks

Looks amazing man, wish ii had so much room to play with

Cut slabs in the middle out and plant up with the new manihot, brassiopsis you just bought
Thank you. It might be too shady for the Manihot to do well but definitely an area to suit the Brassaiopsis.
Cheers
I'd be thinking - How about making a stream alongside some pathways that lead you back to your pergola?
Hi and thank you for the comment.

Hi,
I think whatever you choose to do i think it'll look spectacular. 🌴🌱🪴
That’s very kind. I hope I live up to your expectations. Cheers
Imagine sitting in a hot tub surrounded by those tropical shade plants....
My wife’s wanted a hot tub there for years. It’s a battle I will keep fighting. Cheers.
Straight away I imagined a hot tub under there 😊
@@JonnyG1977 I have a hot tub in my tropical garden, and it's pure luxury!

@@tikitropicals65 yes this is true; sorry I got carried away with the idea 😅however there are a few that can handle semi shade like Sarracenia x catesbae and huntmans cap.
I think it’s I good idee to make a pond. Just use a bog filter or a skimmer to catch faling leaves
Cheers. The Tetrapanax has leaves a metre long so that may cause me problems.
Lift slabs plant around the edges would work better and gravel it with probably a few slabs set in and still have large rocks around in certain areas of the edges with ground ferns

Hi. I’m a landscape gardener so I’ve lifted lots of old patios in my time. Yes it will be hard work but hopefully it will be worth it. Cheers.
Do a Koi Pond in the middle of your lawn.
I’m not that brave. My wife would kill me.
@@tikitropicals65 haha, never mind. Maybe one day. Great channel. All the best.
hi, where did you get the Brassaiopsis from? many thanks
Hi. It was from a private seller here in the U.K. i don’t know of any nurseries that sell Brassaiopsis Mitis.
@@tikitropicals65 many thanks for your reply. do you have the name of the private seller please? i am in UK myself.
@@irenakretschmar7325I don’t think they have anymore. I will message them and ask and let you know if they do. Cheers.
Mate you need a pond
I think I do. Cheers
