Omg, Lucy, this is exactly what I've been begging for. It seems like every capsule wardrobe I find on the internet is the exact same classic-chic-minimalist style, full of all-neutral blazers and button-downs and heels, which is so not me at all. Thank you for being so non-specific in the types of pieces people should build their unique capsules with. I hope everyone watches this video and realizes how special it is.
leahsfieldnotes might also be interesting to you! she has a video on creating a capsule wardrobe suited to travelling but her style is fun and individual!
Thank you for taking the time to actually show us clothes on your body and not just pictures of the clothes or only trying on a couple things! I’m sure that took a lot of time, but it really is so helpful for visual learners like me!!!
I’d love to see this revisited in spring/summer to get an example of how this translates throughout the seasons. I also live in a full-season climate & that alone can make most capsule wardrobe videos/lists less practical bc I feel like the bitter cold bits of the year don’t get addressed.
I genuinely think the only winter wardrobe essential is a pair of thermal tights or leggings. They allow you to wear your skirts and dresses year round and can be worn under trousers to keep you toasty. I don’t own a white top, or a pair of jeans, or a black blazer or any of the other commonly suggested wardrobe essentials, but everyone needs some thermals if you’re living anywhere remotely chilly :))
I got a pair of Lucy and yak dungarees last year and they've ruined my wardrobe because I wear them EXCLUSIVELY 😂 they're black and baggy so they go with literally anything and they keep me nice and toasty, plus they're super comfy. It's a tragedy when I need to wash them bc now I don't remember how to dress myself without them 🤣💀💀
I appreciated this video Lucy! I'm living in west Cornwall where we just don't wear those things they show in the normal capsule wardrobe videos. Half of the stuff in those videos are things that me and my friends would only wear a handful times a year to weddings, christenings etc. And it's so easy to borrow a pair of shoes from a friend for that. I wanted to do capsule wardrobe for ages now because I love the simple life, being eco friendly, slow living. And a lot of people who dont live in built up areas love that. After seeing your video I decided that it's best to make a capsule based on what I actually do 90% of the time... with some extra bits for a surprise fancy thing. If you live more of a farmy / muddy / foragey / hippy existence then all you really need is 2 smart dresses, one summery and ok for a christening, one dark colour and ok for a funeral or job interview. You need 1 black decent shoes and 1 decent jacket. That's it. No need for those 5 pairs of smart shoes and all decent things shown in the other videos :)
i actually started my capsule wardrobe along with you when you started your journey, lucy! and wow what a journey it’s been. i went from a strict 14 piece wardrobe to now not really having a limit, but i am so grateful for the habits i’ve picked up from doing a strict capsule! i can confidently say i know my style: i know what fabrics i love and hate, fits, colors, etc. it’s helped me stop manic buying when i see something i instantly like. i never really worry about what to wear because i love everything in my closet! and i keep finding fun new ways to pair things together. i do keep my winter/fall and summer/spring clothing separate. i think that’s important and vital to making sure you don’t have too much! so anyway all this thanks lucy! don’t think i would’ve gotten hear stylistically without you 🤍☺️
My favorite thing to do to make sure my clothes will mix together is staying with colors that i love wearing and go together. I have olive green, muted purples and pinks, black, white, plum, and brown. My dresses have all those colors together or combinations of those colors. For winter/fall. Thank you Lucy for your videos!
Listening to Lucy talk about jewllery and thinking about my giant garlic earrings...I think they actually work well for capsule wardrobe-ing cause they're white lol goes with everything!
Thanks for having the entire list in the description! At the end of the video I was so annoyed because I realised I should have been taking notes but you’ve done it for me!
Yaaaassssss love this! I'm one of those people with a ~ distinct style ~ thats a bit vintage, a bit princess on the go in a Disney film I also love that it's helped identify a few gaps in my wardrobe that I couldn't put my finger on (comfy lounge wear, weirdly). Also can confirm having a Selection of Nice Coats is honestly a game changer. I saved up for the Pearl Coat from Collectif (it HAD to be red, no compromising) and its been SO warm. I was low key disappointed at first cos its so heavy it made everything ride up, but I figured out I just need to wear a petticoat with it and I'm sorted. Then I got to insisting that anything else I bought had to land on my waist, no compromising. Lo and behold, outfits I wouldn't NORMALLY wear when I felt fat looked flattering bc the lines were at the right point. Everything is an optical illusion its madness 🤣😅
this was so helpful! im not a minimalist or maximalist, i just wanna be more intentional with my wardrobe while still enjoying what i wear. this guide spoke directly to me!
This video is so helpful. So much info packed in and makes this all feel doable. I’m 39 and have never attempted a capsule wardrobe but am so motivated to make one.
I would love to hear you talk about doing a capsule or minimal wardrobe when your body is frequently changing. I've been struggling because I feel like I am constantly having to top up my wardrobe because of changing sizes and shapes.
The best thing I can suggest is more forgiving fabrics. If it has some stretch it can carry you through at least a bit of fluctuation. Maybe also finding things that are "oversized" that you like on yourself, but don't look awkward when they fit tighter. This could be a flannel that at one size you wear as a button up, but at another you only wear as a layering item. I know the point is to pare down, but keeping a few favorites stored away like your off season items simply ends up being the most practical solution in my opinion, especially with pants. I've lost quite a bit of weight recently, but I'm keeping two of my favorite jeans that are too big on me now because in the long run I know they will probably come into rotation again.
maybe just try doing 2 (or more if u need) capsuls? Some items probably can work for different sizes (oversize when you are wearing smaller size and as regular fit when you wear bigger size), some you can just store away and change it depends of what size you are wearing rn
tucked in bed after a night out, listening to your video, im only five minutes but thank you Lucy, this is wonderfully explained and so much more interesting than any "build your capsule wardrobe" ive every seen. i'm definitely not a neutral colour classic clothes person and i could never connect with a capsule wardrobe video before because they're always about this specific style. this video is different. Thank you very much i really appreciate your content 🥰
Such a fun video Lucy! I really love that you considered all of the different moments in life and how this formula can suit so many different lifestyles. I have been paring down my wardrobe so much lately and I feel like it's really helping my mental health, decision fatigue and to help me find my true style. Love all of your content and sending some love from Canada!
I’ve been cutting down and tailoring my wardrobe for a while now and it makes my life so much easier. I have winter and summer clothes sorted into boxes which helps my wardrobe feel less cluttered. There are a few pieces I’m missing which I’m trying to source from good quality retailers or just make myself (for example, there’s a skirt I want that I can’t find anywhere). How you talked about it is really good for all styles as well. I wear all black and accessorise with gothic pieces of jewellery. Colour isn’t a worry for me so all I focus on is the style of top/bottom/dress etc.
Love this video! I'm also SO GLAD Lucy mentioned having the right kind of underwear in this video, because I found when I was developing my wardrobe I was struggling to find clothes that both fit and looked good, and it was all down to the bra I was wearing them with!
Raise your hand if you’ve been here since she first started posting capsule wardrobe videos! ✋🏻 so fun to see how she’s grown from having 5 beige and white tops and that’s it
I have been building my wardrobe for the past 2 years. I live in Florida so it can be hard especially for winter. Sometimes it is cold. Sometimes we have warm winter. I don't have a number. Just try to have clothes l love. When l change from summer to winter l hang my clothes backwards. As l wear them l hang them the opposite way. If l haven't worn it at the end of the season l get rid of it or Sometimes put it in a time out box. Sometimes you get tired of your clothes. And then fall in live with them again. I have a rule. If something new comes in something has to go out. The one thing l do struggle with is purses. And trying to find the right Wallet to fit my small purse. But it will come in time. Love your channel! And glad to see you are doing well.!
So so helpful. I really appreciate you actually listing a rough number of items in each category. So many capsule wardrobe guides don’t do that but it can be overwhelming trying to know how many you might need. I end up having way too many and it doesn’t feel like a capsule at all.
I'm not a fan of any form of capsule wardrobe personally but find I have very few clothes anyways but still found this video very inspiring - and adaptable! I work in advertising and I dress casual all the time haha :D
Really like this format! I’ve got 3 different part time jobs with different dress ‘codes’ haha… you reminded me of my brother in law when you mentioned men’s clothes. He wears his fisherman’s jumper, tweed waistcoat and flat cap for just a simple walk on the weekend. Sometimes we don’t have to dress smart, we just want to 🤷🏻♀️🌸🌸🌸

This is content that I have been starving for!! I am by no means a minimalist as I love a few different styles and I don’t feel authentic to who I am if I lean heavily in one direction. It’s been rough because everything I find with capsule wardrobes features very stark minimalist style with neutrals and basics, yet I love my floral peasant dresses, a variety of tops, skirts, and it’s hard to find representation. This is so helpful to see and hear. I want to watch this again and take notes. Thank you so much for taking the time to compile this list!
Same for me. I hate denim jackets, blazers, and button-downs; I love rich colors, stripes, and printed dresses. I have never seen a capsule wardrobe remotely in my style.
I've been trying to practise more slow fashion over the past couple of years, so this is really useful! Would love to see future videos reviewing certain brands on their quality, longevity, etc. For example, I see from your Insta that you have lots of & other stories clothes - I've never bought from them but love their designs, so it would be good to get a review video just on that brand as an example.
I love capsule wardrobe content but I am definitely finding making one more and more tricky! Where I live has very intense seasonal differences, like +30 Celsius in the summer and -30 in the winter, so my wardrobes don't overlap a ton. Also, I'm going into the legal profession, so a my smart clothes are VERY smart, while I still gravitate towards a more casual style otherwise. What I've been attempting to is have my newer pieces lean a little smarter so they have at least the potential to be dressed up rather than mostly casual clothes.
Ooh, where do I go to find such cool temperature changes? Here in northern Scandinavia, we go from +20 to -20 Celsius on average, and I kind of love the big shifts. So invigorating.

I'd love a part 2 on a more in depth explanation of the "core wardrobe" and the split halves/seasons. Rental clothing actually has one of the highest climate impacts due to the two way transportation, packaging and frequent dry cleaning. The study revealing this was based in the states, so it's possible the impact isn't as bad in places with a smaller land mass, but maybe it's worth people looking into the companys available to them and choosing one with a warehouse relatively close to them, or using a brick and mortar rental stores and trying on before renting to avoid shipping and cleaning something that doesn't actually fit and won't get worn.
this was super helpful! thank you Lucy!!! I'm someone that really struggles to organize my thoughts and my environment, but this makes me feel calmer to tackle my closet into one I envision, so thank you so much
I'm more of a maximalist when it comes to clothes/ accessories, but I still found this video super helpful! Really made me think about which pieces am I holding onto that I shouldn't XD
thank you so much for putting together such a thorough video with your own clothes as examples! I declutter my closet after my birthday every year and this helped me so much! I'm keeping a lot less than I normally would because now I have a whole wardrobe that can work for the whole year. :) I kept some extras outside of the capsule wardrobe but I won't be reaching for them as much thanks to this video! I appreciate it.
I tend to live in jeans! I have a lot of T-shirts but not a lot of other tops. I need more nice tops, dressier pants, skirts, dresses, loungewear, pyjamas, jackets everything really. This has been a helpful video.
I made the bold decsion to not have a dressing gown as they a;lways make me feel bundled and got my self an outsized velvet sweat shirt in a colour that goes with both sets of jimjams! It really work for me!
This video just popped up in my recommended and I’m so happy it did! Iv tried a capsule wardrobe before many times but it didn’t work out so I’d really like to do it with this format and see how it turns out! then hopefully slowly start to declutter the rest of my wardrobe that didn’t make the cut
I recently found your channel and I‘ve to say that I love watching your videos! I kind of binge watching your previous videos :D Last week I cleaned my wardrobe and looked through all my clothes. But next step is decluttering it! And maybe I will find a way that will work for me to have a capsule wardrobe :)
OMG this is so helpfull! I feel like I finally have a guideline to what is missing in my wardrobe and I just couln't figure it out. Gret Video, thank you! :)
Letting go of your fantasy self and taking the time to curate a colour palette are my two biggest tips. Letting go of your fantasy self saves you from wasting money on items that in reality you will NEVER wear, because that's not your lifestyle. And a colour palette will ensure all items in your wardrobe work together and have a sense of cohesion.
thank you! this is spot on. i don’t have a capsule wardrobe bc i need things for all these occasions and i love to look stylish but i hate to think about it/plan it so i just like having stylish clothes that fit categories of occasions. thanks!
This was super helpful in seeing where I’ve got gaps in my wardrobe! 🙌🏻 Also as someone who has had a journey with gender expression over the pandemic, I feel way more excited about filling those gaps now! Ei a rocking suit and fancy loafers 🔥
When I retired a few years ago, I gave away all of my blazers, dress pants and silk blouses. Over the past year, I have done nothing but attend funerals so am now in the process of replacing them.
I really like how you're acknowledging how relatively specific your suggestions are to your situation/climate, and also have suggestions for people who're not wearing classical women's wear. But why do only men need to keep their heads warm and only women their necks and hands? XD
Is it possible to get an infographic or something with this info all in one place? I think is such a good outline, but I struggle holding info in my brain and would love to see it all written out 😅

Last week I cleaned my wardrobe and looked through all my clothes. But next step is decluttering it! And maybe I will find a way that will work for me to have a capsule wardrobe :)
Thank you Lucy ❤️
Not related but you look stunning here, Lucy!!!! Thank you for this video and God bless you!!!!
OMG this is so helpfull! I feel like I finally have a guideline to what is missing in my wardrobe and I just couln't figure it out. Gret Video, thank you! :)
I clicked the like button just because of your name. lol Lucy Moon! What a great name. Great advice too.
I can’t wait for the summer version of this!!
Letting go of your fantasy self and taking the time to curate a colour palette are my two biggest tips. Letting go of your fantasy self saves you from wasting money on items that in reality you will NEVER wear, because that's not your lifestyle. And a colour palette will ensure all items in your wardrobe work together and have a sense of cohesion.
loved it so much, I am building my c.w now and I will follow this guide
The long black dress is beautiful!! Where is it from?
Would really love to know where you got your green hoodie and sweatpants? Xx
What does smart mean in terms of a clothes style? Academic or preppy or something?
Love this! What was your brown leather casual bag? I have been searching for one for forever!
Hi Lucy, where is your everyday bag from? The burgundy/brown one. I have been looking for something similar!
thank you! this is spot on. i don’t have a capsule wardrobe bc i need things for all these occasions and i love to look stylish but i hate to think about it/plan it so i just like having stylish clothes that fit categories of occasions. thanks!
Thank you so much for this video. Please do a spring/summer one ;)
Love this & would love you to do a summer one 🥰
So helpful. I wish you had a checklist that we could use.
Love this episode! Sooooo helpful! Thanks Lucy 🙂
Loved loved love this video Lucy!
Your hair is being extra pretty in this video
This was super helpful in seeing where I’ve got gaps in my wardrobe! 🙌🏻 Also as someone who has had a journey with gender expression over the pandemic, I feel way more excited about filling those gaps now! Ei a rocking suit and fancy loafers 🔥
gosh I love these videos
This is very helpful and inspiring! Hopefully I can make myself a good wardrobe this year🤩
When I retired a few years ago, I gave away all of my blazers, dress pants and silk blouses. Over the past year, I have done nothing but attend funerals so am now in the process of replacing them.
Hi🤗 what a great video! I just discovered your channel 😁
petition for a spring/summer version!!!!
great video! what lipstick are you wearing? love the colour
It’s the cachet ultralip from glossier x
This was super helpful and has got me motivated to try out a capsule wardrobe! Where is the black, high neck "nice top" from? It's beautiful!
This is like watching a young Anna from The Anna Edit. Lucy gives me Anna vibes.
I think is such a good outline, but I struggle holding info in my brain and would love to see it all written out 😅
I’ll write it in the description!
@@lucymoon thank you!
Not me taking notes hahaha such a great video thank you Lucy!!
Love this
Where was that lush crochet button down in the first clothes shot from? x
Dying to know where those heels are from
Loved how broad this was!
I love that tote bag so much 🤩 anybody know where it’s from?
it’s from the museum of peace and quiet, I picked it up on SSENSE last year! x
Hey, when she mentions "nice tops," a black semi-sheer puff sleeve top comes up. I'm desperate to know where it's from! Does anyone know?
I should have linked most items - if I haven’t, it’s from and other stories!
@@lucymoon tysm! Love the vids ❣️
I need to know where the top at 7:04 minute mark is I am respectfully begging
My personal approach to capsule wardrobing is "if I was a cartoon character, how would I be dressed?"
This girl loves her coats 😂
This is incredibly helpful and clear but its a shame that gender is used so much to define what clothes you might where 😞
👌👌👌👌
Shit!;)😵💫😿💕🤳👰♀🎅🏇🏌🐽🐤🦘🐞🏺🔪♨See, strong feelings!
