He *can* smile, it’s just he wont often feel the need to smile genuinely, so he chooses not to smile at all. It’s complicated. He has always had an jncredible understanding of emotions, how to manipulate them, he can percieve what emotions people are feeling and why with relatieve ease, etc. And he was only “socially inept” in the beginning after leaving the whiteroom because he had little to no experience, and he was trying to act like something he was not, which is an average loner who would like to make friends. He has shown an incredible ability to understand and navigate social situations and scenario’s. The only thing he doesn’t really have going for him socially is his limited range of emotional expression, but everything else he is better than damn near anybody in COTE, if not literally the best in the context of navigating and orchestrating social situations and encounters.

Furina does have a last name it is just probably not common. Her last name is "de Fontaine", i know it sound strange and you probably think "but that's where she is from, that's not a last name?" and yes it is where she is from but in french a lot of family name used to be "'de X" (X being your home city) for example there is a bank named "desjardins" and it is composed of 2 word "des jardins" (i could roughtly translate it to "of the garden") and it was probably because in the past they used to own garden. Also if you read Furina's lore you learn that she is extremely good at adapting to situation (it took her a fiew second to create a fake personality to please the people when she was revealed as the new archon, she learned how to surf in a fiew hours and she is the only character who had her vision without prior elemental skill and can make summon without too much dificulty)
