Concord looks very beautiful at night. I loved the music too. That’s the music that they used to play in malls before the “stuff” they’re playing now. lol

Always loved this mall, and I've really missed coming here! This place brings back great memories. Sometimes when we were in PA, we would also venture into the Wilmington DE area, and this was always the mall we went to. Glad to see it still mostly looks the same. It's a beautiful looking mall, overall! I always loved their fountains, especially the one near the clock. Also, I always loved going through that Macy's Home Store, so I really appreciated the footage of that! Love the former Strawbridge & Clothier, as well. And of course, any mall with a Boscov's is gonna be a favorite of mine! I'll miss that Sears, though. I actually really liked that one. :(

Update to the update: I was there on Friday, February 21, and they have started to demolish the fountain in front of Sears. Good on you for getting it while it was still operating! Also the Macy's escalator was broken so you had to take the elevator.

That's really terrible. I had no idea they were even going to rip that fountain out.

@@RawRealRetail Yeah, I managed to get a few seconds of the fountain in front of Macy's and felt glad I did because it'll probably go, too.

Namdar really is a destroyer of malls. The deal didn't even go through until January and already it is looking grim.

    • @jeremyud

@@RawRealRetail Namdar is going to have incentive to kill this mall as fast as possible because this is a popular area and they will have no problem selling to a re-developer.

Oh nooooo.......this is one of the malls from my childhood! I used to love coming here on weekends with my grandma, ma and aunt because of the no sales tax thing.
This makes me sad. I remember when Macys was Woolworths and there was a diner there.

This mall reminds me of the Avation mall with its marble floors and 70s interior

Not a single customer in the Macy’s Home Store. Not a good sign. This location may likely end up on the list of 2020 closures. Sears with one foot out the door with Boscov’s holding the bag as the lone anchor . Speaking of Boscov’s they seem to have a fairly big exposure to dead or dying malls. Getting to the mall itself it’s not holding up well with little hope of attracting new tenants. I expect that if you return a further six moth to year from now the situation will not be any better. This place is on a slippery slope with an owner that may have little intention of fixing things.

I was at the Macy's this past Friday. They had a broken escalator so you had to take the elevator to get upstairs. There was nobody except a worker upstairs.

The layout of that Macy's Home Store though, it's interesting I thought the floors of the store were the actual floors of the mall since it expanded out into the mall space (upper floors), via it's entrance. (until the angle walking to that area from the store) This way this store was built is creative, but made me confused when first encountering it in the video.
Most times when we see an anchor it stays confined within itself (upper floors included). I can see why anchors are normally built this way, the traditional self contained way.

From what I understand, this was originally an office building that got Incorporated into the mall.

Good times, I remember bugging my parents to get games at EB! Got Mario Tennis for the GBC and Age of Empires II there. The Namco arcade was great, wish we still had them around... I will say that Maui Tacos that opened up there after the arcade left was pretty awesome.

I visited during the holiday season and it isn’t doing too too well, major stores like H&M, Victoria Secrets, and Bath & Body Works are doing very well but there’s a lot of empty stores there. There’s a few factors to it, but the pandemic is a big one. But, I do see a future for this mall. The Boscovs and Macy’s are still pretty good and the area around it is just fine. On top of this, the Macy’s home store is a lot different, no house wears anymore, all inside the store.

First, thanks for stopping by my blog last week! Question for you: on other videos when people walk through malls with a video camera, they get hassled by mall security and told that videotaping isn't allowed. You don't seem to run into that problem. Do you prearrange your visits with them, or have you found a way to videotape without being detected? The video that you capture for the malls is excellent!

    • @DeadMallWalking

I'd assume the camera is being carried at waist height (based on much of the footage being quite low down), which is much less obvious than holding it up by the chest. The more discreet you can be, the less likely it is security will even notice you let alone call you out on filming.

Thanks John! I use a camera called the Osmo Pocket. It is a very discreet 4 inch gimbal/camera and I do hold it at waist height. For the most part it is not noticeable.
