Enjoyed the video as always. What is the difference between the hummingbird units and say a vexlar? 2nd question, I've seen recently advice to not use sonar due to the power, is this hummingbird product in that range for power? Thank you in advance for your responses. I still fish without electronics
The biggest advantage of a Hummingbird Helix versus a flasher is the ability to use the Humminbird Helix in he boat and the on the ice. Both the Humminbird and a flasher will detect and visually indicate the depth that fish are at but a flasher is strictly an ice fishing electronic. A flasher is more compact and is real time with no delay. Humminbird Helix models have a flasher setting but is not a true flasher rather a video representation of one. I'm not sure on the power question. When you say "power" are you refering to battery draw or power to detect fish or the bottom? Thank you for the questions!
@@AnglerX I believe they are talking about forward facing sonar types. They are saying that the power of the "waves" sent from these units are powerful enough to scare the fish. Thank you again for creating and sharing this content and for patiently answering questions. TIGHT LINES ALL
I did kinda the same thing buy with a old soft side tackle box. I still use a lead acid battery so I did switch from my Helix 7 to the 5. Mostly because the 7 would use the whole battery in a day of fishing. The 5 gives me a couple days. But nice Hack and a DYI. If The Women Don't Find Ya Handsome They Should At Least Find Ya Handy 😊
I got a little over 16 hours on the new Lithium battery I bought for the Helix 7. They are more money but half the weight with more life. This is the first one I've purchased. Nice RED GREEN quote!
I did something similar with my helix 5 but used a cheaper blow molded igloo cooler. I mounted a ram ball to an aluminum plate in the bottom, everything collapses and the lid can be shut. I can move the unit to my boat or kayak with the ram mounts. I like your cooler better, looks nicer and has a lid latch.
Genius! Thanks for sharing.
Pretty ingenious set up..😉
Thanks! It is working well for me.
@AnglerX do you have safe ice out by you?..a buddy and I got out 2 days ago here in the SE part of the state, slow; but managed a few..
@ I was not out on the ice today. We got a lot of rain last night. I’m guessing the ice has taken a hit.
@AnglerX yeah, my father in law said that Indian creek was wide open again..🙄
Works great👍 like it protects and insulates the battery
Thanks for the comment!
Nice setup 👊
👊
That's a really cool idea.
Thank you!
Thanks for this video!
You’re welcome!
Nice job!
Thank you!

I looked at several personal coolers but liked this one for the tray. The unit fit perfectly in it!
@ when I build version 2 I’ll definitely be buying a nice cooler like yours. I’m not sure I could fit a bigger unit than a 5 in mine.
Does it transmit made up fishing songs underwater ? That would be ideal.
No, unfortunately not
Oh the joys of customary measurements 😂🤢
