My Dad, Doug Moon, was the lead guitarist for the original version. No wonder I love The Black Keys so much.... similar genres. I wish I could meet these guys. -Bonnie Moon
Big Beefheart fan...but never knew this song! I was checking out all the awesome Black Keys songs and stumbled across this cover....and LOVED it! Then listened to the Beefheart original....BLEW THIS ONE AWAY! So, doesn't make me like the BK less...but more in fact!
The Black Keys have been digging on the Captain Beefheart covers recently, in the past year they've also covered 'Here I Am I Always Am' and 'Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Miles'.
Im glad I heard Tighten Up on the radio. I never heard the name of the band so looked it up on Q101 and read, "The Black Keys". I looked up some of their songs and fell in love.
Always thought this was probably the most underated track of the early tracks Mr Vliet- alias Captain Beefheart, had ever recorded. It appeared on Safe As Milk ( a must buy in my opinion).I;m so Glad the Black KEYS have chosen to do this.
saw them last night at the governor hindmarsh this was one of the best songs they did, good voice. I've been trying to figure out who bloody did the song and of course beefheart I've got that album.
Can't see why people prefer theCaptains version as I am sure that this is as close you get to a fine rendition of that song and I prefer the splash of pure exuberance as the guitar comes in to the mix .
Haha, man, I love the Black Keys, the only gripe I ever had about them was that I never saw Dan use a Les Paul, cause I think Les Pauls have the best tone for the kind of music he makes... so I saw the Keys on Sunday, en Dan came out with a Les Paul... that was awesome.. hahaha
I had a chance to see these guys when they came to Seattle with a bunch of other bands. I left after the band i went to see (CAKE) was done. The Black Keys were after Jimmy Eat World and I didnt feel like sticking around. After listening to this im thinking i should have stayed...
@BrockDavisson I actually found and made friends w/someone on Facebook that was fortunate to download it off their MySpace when they gave it out and he was nice enough to email it to me, so I have it now. Gotta love good music! P.S. I have a son named Brock!
@pinatafication Agree with most of your statements except.."i dont think they will be able to compete with the classics". I think the Keys can hold their own next to any Classic Rock/Blues musicians from generations past to today.
Gotta love the highest rated comments. Best band of our time!? This is a Captain Beefheart Cover. I bet most of those who commented on this song wouldn't even give Beefheart a chance.
the very fact that they covered it means that they like the original too. stop hating. bands doing covers makes a lot of people do research and find old good stuff.
I can honestly say that i havent been so "stuck" on band like this for years... More tracks i hear, more i am impressed with these 2 guys... Unbelievly (?) simple , no more , no less, just perfect...
I so agree about Beefheart.. "Her Eyes are a Blue Million Miles" is amazing by TBK. Btw, Jack White covered Beefheart as well with "Party of Special things to Do" with The White Stripes and it's awesome! I love Beefheart's cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Evil" too!! ENJOY ;)
This sounds crazy but they remind me of Queen, my favorite band and greatest ever. They have a very distinctive sound and vocals like Queen and also great soft to hard moments like them
The Keys do the BEST covers. I think it's because they never choose a song they can't just jam to, know what I mean? Like even their cover of "Dearest" is very Keys. I dunno if I'm making any sense. Just enjoy the damn song!
@pinatafication You've named some incredible, influential bands but if you really think about it...The Black Keys are just 2 guys with a sound as filling as if they were a 5 man band. Dan's vocals and guitar playing alone are so raw and dirty, it almost feels like he doesn't belong in this time...I do stand by my statement that The Keys could stand alongside the greats but do appreciate your opinion. It's refreshing that people can actually disagree without it getting ugly.

Back from 14 ago. Still here. 2

An instant classic.
The Keys continue to amaze me. The greatness continues to grow in these two.
The Black Keys have been digging on the Captain Beefheart covers recently, in the past year they've also covered 'Here I Am I Always Am' and 'Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Miles'.

@MsBonZila That's amazing. The guitar on the original record always amazes me. Safe As Milk was a wonderful album.

damn i love these guys.
This is the ONLY instance where I prefer the original to The Black Keys' version.
Captain Beefheart song. Give credit it when it is due homie.
@sandwich451 i think it sounds kinda of cool...it gives it the old 50,60 blues feel
I like this song. just letting everyone know.
the very fact that they covered it means that they like the original too. stop hating. bands doing covers makes a lot of people do research and find old good stuff.

The original version is from Captain Beefheart on the album Safe As Milk
This song is written by Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet)
Great song! :D
Love this freakin song!
Im so used to hearing the falsetto background vocals from the original
I so agree about Beefheart.. "Her Eyes are a Blue Million Miles" is amazing by TBK. Btw, Jack White covered Beefheart as well with "Party of Special things to Do" with The White Stripes and it's awesome! I love Beefheart's cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Evil" too!! ENJOY ;)
Damn. My band was going to cover this because it hadn't been done before!

Mate. The Black Keys are fuckin awesome.

QUE CANCION TAAN BUENA!
i hope this is on their new album coming up
This sounds crazy but they remind me of Queen, my favorite band and greatest ever. They have a very distinctive sound and vocals like Queen and also great soft to hard moments like them
@Valerieabear It used to be free 2 years ago when they first recorded it. It was offered off MySpace but I tried to download now & no dice :(
You dont need tabs. Learn it by ear and it will help tons more in the long run.
A cover of Captain Beefheart! should put this in the description
@IndianaBones19 well hey, they did cover Grown So Ugly, which was EPIC, by the way.
@jbos1966 it was a free download on their myspace page. i don't think you can buy it anywhere
The Keys do the BEST covers. I think it's because they never choose a song they can't just jam to, know what I mean? Like even their cover of "Dearest" is very Keys. I dunno if I'm making any sense. Just enjoy the damn song!

This is a cover of Capt. Beefheart - who died last week - RIP Dan Van Vliet!
How did this not make the album?
you guys you can download it using mp3 converter on firefox.
@pinatafication You've named some incredible, influential bands but if you really think about it...The Black Keys are just 2 guys with a sound as filling as if they were a 5 man band. Anyone know what album this cover is on? I wanted to buy it off of Itunes, but I can't find it on there.
black magic
@SirGeorge8600 so they aren't allowed to do a cover song while the original artist is still alive?
Where can i buy this Black Keys version??
@Chilling10680 who does the original?
Dan is the man....That is all.
check out the white stripes cover of party of special things to do
