The UV cartridge is powered by the RO unit itself using a special cable and the UV cartridge is installed "in line" to the water dispenser mounted on the counter adjacent to the sink. The UV light only comes "on" when the RO Faucet is dispensing water to be consumed (drinking, cooking) and will turn off instantly after the amount of water is dispensed.
