S J That’s literally what Voguing is! The point is that you pose to the beat of the music. It was created in the 1980s in the New York LGBTQ+ ballroom scene, competitors would essentially have a dance-off by emulating the stylised poses in Vogue magazine. Check out the classic documentary Paris is Burning, it’s an amazing insight into the ballroom scene of the era (and rather bittersweet as most of the people featured in it have since passed away). Then I HIGHLY recommend watching the American drama series Pose; the writing and acting are superb, effectively and sensitively portraying the issues the LGBTQ+ community endured at the time, without ever diminishing the uniqueness and the verve of the ballroom culture. It’s one of my favourite series of recent years!

I totally agree with what you say Sienna Lily. However, I think Michelle didn't do herself any favours with this dance given her position (wrongly) last week. I don't know if she herself chose this dance, or was given it? But given how good she is, a more traditional dance with on par with her previous performances would have been more beneficial at this stage, given who is left. I hope I am wrong and Michelle gets through. As much as I like Chris, he isn't as good as the rest and unfortunately it would be right for him to go now.
I agree that people didn’t get it, but I dont think that just because it’s not a traditional type of strictly dance makes it any less of a proper dance.

For those wondering about the costumes and the routine, this whole thing was based off of Madonna’s performance at the 1990 MTV awards. It’s on RUclips if you look. I can see what you mean though, it does seem like a performance with not a lot going on - but voguing is meant to be carried out with attitude and I think Michelle did that
The reference to Madonna's timeless and iconic performance at the 1990 VMAs and a throwback to Michelle's roots in the ball scene.. this performance SCREAMS iconic. I understand people are saying the complexity was lacking compared to the other performances but the cohesiveness of the performance and the ARTISTRY were on point! I think there's a lack of appreciation for coming up with a solid concept for a dance and executing it to perfection, which Michelle and Giovanni absolutely did.
This was freaking brilliant! The choreo is TIGHT and tells a complete story from moment one to end. Great homage to Madonna and a FABULOUS coming out party for a Michelle and Giovanni. Top marks!

Some wonderful creative flair and very enjoyable chemistry has just disappeared down a rabbit hole from Strictly. How you both interpreted the music was excellent. You were both living the part in every dance and I loved that chemistry ! Michelle you gave a great message about inclusion too.
As someone who was an active part of the Ballroom community, it's really sad to see Michelle do so little actual Voguing here, it's basically a bit of arm and hand performance and a few poses.
@MrBanstupidity I'm not saying that it's not vogue. But it isn't old way, it's not femme, it's not new way. It's a bit of hand performance. I'm not saying Michelle has to do dips and spins and duck walks and whatnot, but she knows her stuff, she was a voguer who used to compete in Ballroom, mostly in Vogue Femme to my knowledge.
@MrBanstupidity I agree, she could walk Runway or Face with this! To me personally it just sadly didn't even register as a choreography. I know that there's only so much you can do with so little time to sell a dance, and I'm not trying to invalidate her doing what she did. I just think that there could've been a bit more, idk, harder movements involved? Even something a bit quicker like figure eight stuff would've maybe changed it up a bit. Maybe it's also challenging because Vogue has been beginning to enter the mainstream and known dancers have been doing and perfecting it for decades.
@@colouredquiet2407 I thought exactly the same. She didn't vogue. She served face. They'd have done better to have a ballroom routine with. Vogue breakdown and really go IN on the voguing
Although I loved her reasons for doing this dance, she would have been better off doing it back in the studio. For Blackpool you need dances that fill the space and this was just a load of posing- I'm aware that that's what "voguing" is and she performed her best as she usually does but it wasn't enough. Everyone else had showstopper dances or grand, sweeping ballroom ones and she was the only one that didn't really bring the house down.
The issue is that Michelle doesn’t have control over the choreography or content. She only gets so much input. Plus Couple’s Choice really needs to be judged by professionals of that field, not classically trained ballroom and Latin dancers. I think she did fantastically with the armography and what little she was actually given. As other people have said, Strictly really needs to sort out its organisation of these Couple’s Choice dances because they don’t work being in separate weeks; they should all be put into one singular week. That way it’s easier to critique them all on par with each other and not against classical dances. And they’d be able to get people qualified in those styles of dance as judges for that week. Michelle doesn’t deserve to go home for something that was entirely out of her control.
@@emilydolores6458 That's actually a good idea about the couple's choices, would make it more fairer and I have been sceptical about the judges decisions, particularly on street/commercial which is so far flung from their own specialities. Michelle got a little input in the choice; she wanted it to be Madonna and Vogue for what it meant to her, I don't know how much control Giovanni actually had over the choreography either, but there should have been a discussion somewhere between Giovanni- who actually has knowledge of performing in Blackpool- and the choreographers, where they made some sort of compromise to have one section the Vogue part and the rest involving some footwork along with the armography due to the fact that it was to be performed in Blackpool and not a small studio. No she doesn't but unfortunately the other dances were far more enjoyable and that's just how it goes!
She could have done so much with it as well which is the real shame. There's such a rich catalogue of moves in vogueing but this was basic. Walking with a few gestures every now and again when it should have been stacked with moves and poses.
@Yousef Amin Lazy is accurate. Funny thing is you get the feeling that if this was a dance on Drag Race Michelle would tear the dancer a new one. ruclips.net/video/RLzP6121dlo/видео.html Why wasn't she trying this stuff? Could you imagine she doing the compact and mirror routine from Willi? It would have slayed the judges. If you watch the source material for the routine, Madonna's VMA performance, even when singing her dancing on the chorus was more captivating than this. But, do you know who does love this? Vanessa Hudgens. She's so into Voguing right now.
All 8s? Not a single 9? Why? I know it's still a good score, and I know they were all got scores, but still, she was the lowest of the night. Again, why? It was quirky, charming and innovative. She was confident and Giovanni really embraced it. You see, this is how you convey a message, and show both sentiment and skill! Go on, Michelle!!
Bessie Burnet I really like Michelle but this dance was not good. It lacked any difficulty compared to the others and was just a lot of walking around. It baffles me they thought this was a good idea to do and that it would get high marks.
Pretty obvious the judges hated this. They gave it 8s only because they knew she was going to be bottom anyway and to avoid embarrassing her. I suspect they really wanted to go much lower.
I agree on the part with scraping couple's choice. I don't really like it. However, it usually feels so damn overmarked all the time for me. I personally never really like those dances but they always get universal praise everywhere.
Michelle Visage. In this week's challenge, your rendition of Vogue was headline worthy and your Marie-Antoinette runway made us lose our heads. Condragulations, my dear, you are the winner of this week's challenge.
Compared to the Jive from Kelvin, the Charleston from Karim and Alex' Paso... I think, she will move out tomorrow. But I like Michelle, she is wonderful :-) ,

Love Michelle and saw her as a finalist to go all the way disappointed that they did not use this dance to their advantage and seeing a couple with this much potential go out so early as a trained dancer is so upsetting
I think vogue-ing is dancing, and I like Michelle, but I didn't vote for this tonight- there were more dances tonight that had greater content. Voted for Karim, Alex and Kelvin instead- more entertaining.
Voguing is Dancing it’s kind of like The Frug just because it looks odd doesn’t mean it’s not Dancing Michelle Vogued perfectly and was undermarked also this dance was a dedication dance to the LGBTQ community
@@Thomassteven00 as a non pro dancer all my life, I can resolutely say yes " to Vogue, is to dance!" Lol! Although sometimes we go hardcore & it's more athletic in its entirety, my girl Michelle bossed it tonight! It's about the interpretation of the art. I loved the stylised choreo & the aesthetic was spot on - Madonna's 1990 MTV awards performance - please watch that if u haven't yet - & I kno Queen Madonna would b cheering u on on, miss visage! Shantay, u stay!! Great show all round! ❤️
I love Michelle but I don’t think she was completely underscored but 32 is still a good score. A lot of arm movement not much dancing especially compared to the other dances tonight. I know that’s vouging but idk she was amazing tonight
I was a little bit confused regarding this routine. It was such a lovely number, because Michelle and also Giovanni have acted their parts extremely well and also because Michelle has executed all those famous moves really flawlessly, but they chose to dance a street dance, but it had nothing to do with street dancing. I do not understand why they didn’t choose to perform Jazz (even though this routine would not be considered a jazz routine too). If they had chosen to perform a Jazz number and if they had added to these iconic moves of Madonna some Fussy steps, they could have get all tens across the board. The dance that they performed cannot be considered a freestyle really nor a jazz routine, and definitely not a street dance routine. I will score it a 6, but only because the actual content was executed flawlessly, both in terms of movement and artistry.
It's a style of dance new to strictly called Vouging which originated in LGBT+ nightclubs in 80s New York, basically it's all about the armograpphy and serving face, ala being on the cover of a vogue. She did the given dance style perfectly and its criminal to see a dance that has such meaning behind it be so snubbed by the judges who only seem to understand Ballroom/Latin
Ben LeCoyte Karim is a fantastic dancer who is making it all the way to the final, he wasn’t voted for because he cried. Michelle on the other hand isn’t as good and sob story votes should only go so far.

It's not much of anything. In Madonna's own words, it was "teductive".
@MrBanstupidity nah , in old vogue your movements needed to be SHARP AS A KNIFE, and fast, it didn't matter if you foot worked or not , this was awful
I friggin loved this performance. Michelle shouldn't have gone. Absolutely fantastic. Love it
Although I loved her reasons for doing this dance, she would have been better off doing it back in the studio.
She's posed her way out of Strictly !
100% agree!!!
I love Michelle but i completely agree, it wasn't a showstopper compared to the other dances
The fact that she got sent home voguing when she has been doing it longer than this song has existed for.
Voguing is dancing, however this is a competition. I loved the routine, but I dont think it was competitive enough at this stage.
Agreed.
Agreed it was too simple for this level.

Why wasn't she trying this stuff? Could you imagine she doing the compact and mirror routine from Willi? It would have slayed the judges. If you watch the source material for the routine, Madonna's VMA performance, even when singing her dancing on the chorus was more captivating than this.
But, do you know who does love this? Vanessa Hudgens. She's so into Voguing right now.
@Patrick Challenor what editing? This was a live performance, all strictly episodes are, there was no editing. It was all the choreography.
This is my first time tuning into SCD and I gotta say Giovanni is GORGEOUS! He was serving me face and eyebrows hunty
The homage to Madonna's VMA performance makes this even better😭🔥
This gave me life!... And I voted ❤️
Michelle getting kicked off the week she did 'Vogue' is an absolute travesty
I got chill every time watching this. What a performance. So goodddddddddd
SHE'S A GODDESS AND WE MUST PROTECT HER.
Mamma Michelle living her best life! ❤❤🧡🧡💛💛💚💚💙💙💜💜🖤🖤🤍🤍
Giovanni & Michelle, Loved your performance, you had me up strutting my stuff, must have lost a few 1bs to this iconic tune.
OK gio is giving me life in this performance 😏
This couple always delivers on concept and originality ❤️
Gio is so elegant
They should be paid more often with Johannes
Daaaaaaaamn Michelle vogeing is so perfect !!! Like wooooow, props to you mama!!
Gio is sooo hot omg, the way he is feeling himself makes him incredibly attractive
Why's nobody talking about how perfectly flamboyant Giovanni was here
At first I was like “WHY ISN’T SHE LIP SYNCING HONEY NOOOO” then I realised and was like “Oh yeah this is strictly-”
Fabulous!
Miselle must have had a hard time trying not to lip sync the song.
Amazing choreography, the boys were awesome!
OF COURSE MICHELLE WOULD PAY HOMAGE TO HER QUEEN. LOVE IT.
Michelle, dare to be DIFFERENT and FOLLOW YOUR HEART! Even if you go down on Sunday night, you did it at least with a bang!
Strictly should scrap the "couples choice". Michelle was at a disadvantage with this song and as compared to other couples doing recognized dancing.
Or, have all the teams do couples' choice at the same time. That being said, I was very much unimpressed by this performance
Agreed smh
I agree on the part with scraping couple's choice. I don't really like it. However, it usually feels so damn overmarked all the time for me. I personally never really like those dances but they always get universal praise everywhere.
Err, agreed, it was a self-imposed disadvantage.
I thought I was the only person who felt this was amazing but it's nice to read this comments 😭💙
This was FANTASTIC! They absolutely nailed it and I hope they get to stay.
First time I've watched and love strictly for about a decade, wrong choice sending her home. My queen, my winner ❤
Reminds me of the pose dance the pros did a few weeks ago but without the dancing
This was the winning dance for me. So much more meaning than people gave it credit for. Thank you for bringing this to prime time TV🙌🏽❤️
some of her facial expressions are hilarious! lol
She did that!!! Looks so effortless and flawless
Wish there was more interaction between the two of them in this dance.
This is giving me everything!!!!!!!! Loved it Michelle!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
I quite liked this actually I think it suited Michelle to a tea
Michelle Visage. In this week's challenge, your rendition of Vogue was headline worthy and your Marie-Antoinette runway made us lose our heads. Condragulations, my dear, you are the winner of this week's challenge.
Omg yasssss😂😂
They were amazing! This is called Voguing, this is how you do.
Compared to the Jive from Kelvin, the Charleston from Karim and Alex' Paso... I think, she will move out tomorrow. But I like Michelle, she is wonderful :-)
,
"Michelle, your singing and dancing proved tonight that you are very talented... at being a judge on rupaul's drag race"
A was screaming the whole time whilst watching this live and my brother said “it’s so bad she isn’t even dancing and what is she wearing it so ugly” I started screaming at him
FLAWLESS, AMAZING, SPECTACULAR, LEGENDARY!!!! 10s 10s 10s
criminally underscored...
Criminally overscored.
Love Michelle and saw her as a finalist to go all the way disappointed that they did not use this dance to their advantage and seeing a couple with this much potential go out so early as a trained dancer is so upsetting
Will come down to if voters think Voguing is dancing
😣
Yep
It is a dance lmao. Not every dance supposed to be the same routine
She SLAYS here!! luv it
Thank you Michelle!!! Lgbtq comunitty is soooo proud of you and Gio!!! ♥️
Thank you, Michelle ❤️🧡💛💚💙
I love Michelle but I don’t think she was completely underscored but 32 is still a good score. A lot of arm movement not much dancing especially compared to the other dances tonight. I know that’s vouging but idk she was amazing tonight
Chris ETN-Lover Loved the dance for me an respectable 9️⃣! 👍👏🏽
She absolutely killed this!
I was a little bit confused regarding this
routine. It was such a lovely number, because Michelle and also Giovanni have
acted their parts extremely well and also because Michelle has executed all
those famous moves really flawlessly, but they chose to dance a street dance,
but it had nothing to do with street dancing. I do not understand why they
didn’t choose to perform Jazz (even though this routine would not be considered
a jazz routine too). If they had chosen to perform a Jazz number and if they
had added to these iconic moves of Madonna some Fussy steps, they could have get
all tens across the board. The dance that they performed cannot be considered a
freestyle really nor a jazz routine, and definitely not a street dance routine.
I will score it a 6, but only because the actual content was executed
flawlessly, both in terms of movement and artistry.
The category is street\**commercial**
I can’t stop watching this lmao
Whattt noo she was on the bottom. That was incredible 😱😱💕💕💕
I love the tribute to the MTV award performance Michelle is definitely Madonna's biggest fan.
anyone else think she is in major danger............?
Yes, this was boring. They’re heavily relying on the LGBT vote this week and I’m not sure it’s strong enough.
100%. Didn't rate this dance at all
@@ellam7171 Well if Karim can get the votes for crying last week, why can't Michelle get voted for a dance that is significant to the LGBT+ Community
Cant see her beating anyone if shes in the bottom 2 which she probably will be. Not enough dancing.
Ben LeCoyte Karim is a fantastic dancer who is making it all the way to the final, he wasn’t voted for because he cried. Michelle on the other hand isn’t as good and sob story votes should only go so far.
Madonna's original MTV Awards performance in 1990 of this routine is such a classic.
Yes, girl, living for it!!!
