I'm fanning big-time here in Nashville. Your sounds blow me away. I'm sneaking out of the pencil-and-paper songwriter shelter into your crafts and love the adventure!
I'd love to see more of these 2 hour cues. I'm sure they take a lot of time to write/produce/record, but they're phenomenally informational. Well done, Neil!
Really cool video Neil, just watched this and the Mad Max style cue back to back and found them both really informative. Love the sounds and have almost all of Heavyocity's products now. Please keep producing these, I'll keep watching them for sure!
Love these videos Neil. Really appreciate you going over using plugins at the end. I have much to learn in this field and these videos are super inspiring. Proudly own many Heavyocity products. Thank you for doing these!
Neil - thank you for another great instructional video. It’s a perfect format that you prepare the music and then analyze the final product. It was fascinating to see all the FX at the end of the video. Much appreciated. It also really showcases your Heavyocity instruments well :)
Awesome as always! Question for you - Would you share how many instances of Kontakt you are using & would you consider doing a video of how you setup your template? I think that would be interesting.
Another wondrously expansive tutorial mi amigos... as always, seemingly on-que to deliver a tutorial that covers exactly what I so happened to be exploring in the days prior... :) So much learned both directly and non-directly through your project-files and your general approach; and perhaps more so for this episode; I enjoyed your moment to keenly "flex" your new skills & tricks implemented following your prior mixing session tutorial. its a great insight into this work. ive been trying to get into foley / sound design ive even got a credit for post audio on the number one music video in the uk right now but can i get any work? nope... maybe scoring is the way forward...
Hello and thanks for the great production tutorials! I love the eerie looped resonance on the piano. I think you called it a reverse delay. Perhaps I remember that incorrectly but I haven't been able to find any help on reproducing the effect. Anyone?
Hi Gary, The reverse delay is part of the AEON Piano patch called "Piano & FX Long" if you listen to Channel 3 in that preset you'll hear it. Hope that helps! Best, Neil
Hi Funkstation, Yes I use a subtle amount of outboard compression and eq on the mix bus. I have API's "The Box" console/summing mixer. I take 8 stereo outs from my D/A into that for a little analog warmness and extra depth. It has an insert option on the stereo bus (master fader) and I put an "Obsidian" stereo compressor running 2:1 ratio w/ no more than 3 db of compression. Then I add a couple of dB's of top and bottom using Dangerous Audio's BAX eq. This same master buss treatment can of course be duplicated with plugins :). Best, Neil
Hi! I don't hear Bladerunner here.Ok.But you have some interesting sound packs. As about Bladerunner ,that is an iconic score and Vangelis really left a mark with that.I thi nk that there is a norwegian composer who writes like this ,using the same instruments(Yamaha CS 50 ,etc) .Very interesting.
you make awesome music dude ... whats the best place to follow and hear those tracks when they're finished :D ? and is there also some kind of edm you do ?
Hi, thanks for writing in. Here is how the two instruments are different...Synthetic Strings is focused on analog string synthesizers specifically sampled for accuracy and quality without compromising their classic sound. It has the synth string designer which uses these classic string synthesizers to create multi-layer evolving sounds, but essentially has synth strings as the building block. Mosaic Leads is gnarlier, more aggressive, and features more complex synthetic layers made out of a wider variety of techniques and using a wider variety of synthesizers. It still can have the warm analog sound, but ultimately has more of a modern sound. Hope this helps answer your question!
Which pro level music production software do you use? I am going over to Mac soon, still an amateur/hobbyist but want to buy the right one most compatible with Heavyocity.
Hi Cee Jay, For composing I'm using Cubase Pro 10. I've been back and forth with Cubase and Digital Performer 9 for the past 2 1/2 years but I do love them both. I think Cubase sounds better overall and tend to compose with it, but I prefer Digital Performer's audio editing work-flow. Regardless of the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) you choose, you should be in good hands with any of the big names like Cubase, Logic, D.P., I hope that helps. Best, Neil
Thanks for your prompt reply. I shall probably go with Cubase as I know a couple of my pro friends use that one. More likely to get good advice as I learn. Love your sounds.
Hi Neil, Please add the ability to drag and drop your own samples, at least into aeon melodic if not rhythmic as well. Some new sound packs would be great too. Thank you!
What does 'cue' mean in this context? I've never heard a peice of music referred to as a 'cue' before. Something related to 'que/cue the music' in film, I'm guessing. Thank you for the excellent video and orchestration.
I don't understand why SOO MANY Scores / pieces of film music use so much orchestra. The world of sound design is so incredibly vast, it's a shame that in so so many cases "film music" is used interchangably with "orchestral music". I can't stress HOW MUCH MORE would be possible if not everyone and their grandmother thought of music for something like movies or games as orchestral. It certainly got better in the last few years, but it's not even close to where i'd like it to be.
wow this is phenomenal!!!!!

Also really interesting musical content, she truly is a composer. The Tron 2, Daft Punk soundtrack was really disappointing in contrast.

I actually liked the Tron: Legacy soundtrack alot. Their blend, to me, was the best step from 80s Sci-Fi to a modern version of that.
