There’s nothing better to hear some great rock and great lyrics and performance. The way meatloaf and the instrumental use was unreal. Why can’t today’s performers do this?
I think as far as the video goes, he's sitting on the hood of his car waiting for the train to pass and in that time, he's reflecting on his life. All the kids in cars on the other side represent his own recollections of his youth and the train represents the passage of time; all the years that have passed between then and now.
I've always loved this song, but now, as I turn 60 years of age, it resonates more. I can remember seemingly not so long ago when I was young and strong - effortlessly.
Bob Seger always knew what he was doing with all his music . To use the brilliant Mr Russ Kunkel on drums was a masterstroke ! No one does better atmosphere on their playing than Mr Kunkel ...or brilliance . One of the greatest ,if not the greatest drummers in poular music for me .
Love this song! Bob Segar is mega, a fantastic voice, no one like it Music is what you make it, absolutely, its what makes music great. Another great reaction, Empress!❤❤
I'm 70 now and remember when Bob played at High Schools I'm my home State of Michigan. Was at his concert when his best album was recorded! Damn! I'm an old Rock
I grew up in the 70's. I'm sad to say I did not appreciate Bob Seger when I was young. Though I liked his songs on the radio well enough, we wasn't quite my style. But now I hear those old tunes and I realize I really missed out. I guess I had to mature 50 years to hear the heart wrenching soul of his work. I'm a fool.
Every time I listen to this, I get somewhat emotional. It is very motivational for me. Many of us had a hard life! And it can get better, if you dont give up on what you do. Thank you Mr BOB SEGER..and thank you the author for your reaction 🙂
Every old man you see was, at one time, like a rock. Theyve carried the weight of their times and their years. They may be slow and bent, but inside theyre still a young man.
No one tells you that when your body ages, if you are lucky, your mind keeps thinking as it did in your 30s. You don't feel old until you look in a mirror.
I'm a huge Seger fan since his Live Bullet album, 1976, when I was 13/14 y/o and spent a lot of time thumbing through the record shops to find his earlier recordings ~ I have everything he ever recorded and I've seen him 13 times live ~ Have seen a lot of shows/bands live, but none brought the goods like Bob did ~ That's why he is in the R&R Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame and was named Rolling Stone's magazine, Legend of Live ~ The man literally had a 60 year career which is almost unheard of in the music business ~ His farewell tour in 2019 was the third highest grossing tour ~ I believe the lyrics and video do complement this song, which I agree I don't always find, but the lyrics are about the passage of time, how he felt then and how he feels now 20 years later and the changes that have come with it ~ The video has all young people waiting at the RR crossing along with just him and the train is the passage of time until it comes to the end and he can move on in his journey...
Hello Kelly, how're you doing? Your comments caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you. Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you! Where are you from?
Hes got a song from a lie bullet called traveling man. And then it goes on to beautiful loser. Traveling. Man and beautiful loser from the la bullad album bob seger hey let's go by
This song when it came out I was 19. I was like a Rock now at 56 I got more years behind me then I got in front of me. I listen to this now and my life plays back like a movie getting married having the kids buying the house career now the house is paid off kids are grown up and we have grandchildren it makes more sense now then it back in 86.
To be able to write like that arrange songs then sing like that. Bob Seger is gold. I feel blessed have grown up in what I think is the golden era of music (70's until now). There are fewer great bands today, of course but there are some fantastic artists today, most of which don't have much are any commercial success because thankfully artists are getting wise to the business. Now you have to dig for the really good music, back then there were so many great artists that everything on the radio just about was great music.
OH OKAY JOY, I THOUGHT YOU HAD DONE BOB'S BIGGEST HIT BY FARRRRR WHICH WAS IN (76 ) AND CALLED : NIGHT MOVES 😊WELL YOU MUST HEAR THAT ONE FOR SURE☝, I'M SURE YOU'LL LOVE IT, TALK ABOUT A GREAT SONG THAT STOOD AND STANDS THE TEST OF TIME💯, TOOK HIM 6 MOS. TO WRITE IT! SO THIS WAS YOUR FIRST ( SEE / GER ) SONG? HMMMM, GREAT CLASSIC AND DETROIT CITY ROCK MUSICIAN JOY! 😊 BE WELL BABY
Great request and reaction Empress! Enjoyed your comments as well. As others have mentioned you should react to more Bob Seger. Songs like Against the Wind, Night Moves, and Old Time Rock & Roll. You'll really like them.
Don’t know about other parts of the world, or current times, but Bob is telling the truth about young American men growing up in those days. You were expected to get a low paying, strenuous job, work you butt off, sweating while digging ditches, laying sod, roofing houses, working on a road crew, or some other tough, physical work. Even though the work was hot and sweaty, you built muscle and felt great. Exhausted, but great. 18 years of age is over fifty years ago for me.
Loved your reaction! I now almost look at this as my personal anthem - except I sing "40 years now... where'd they go?...like a rock..." My interpreation is: Especially when you are young - you face the challenges of life with all your strength and integrity ans press firmly against the wind! When you age you have been tempered by lifes challenges but you've made it this far.. but you still yearn for the sense of humor, vigor, speed and strength of your youth... and you look back in wonder with how the years have evaporated so quickly.
You made an excellent observation. I always appreciate your sensitivity to the music and you correctly stated that listening and hearing a song without visuals is very different from seeing a video as you listen. Videos can be (visually and mentally) distracting from the essentials of the song. The music and the lyrics by themselves allow each person their own interpretation. 💕👍
Favorite line in this song is “hard against the wind”. Ever since I was a teenager if I’ve had some type of adversity, I think of that lyric. It’s dopey, I know lol.
Hello Marry, how're you doing? Your comments caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you. Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you! Where are you from?
@bobseger9293 born in Yale. But grew up in alot of small towns like Romeo,Imlay city, Capac n Almont. Then as an adult Pontiac. I moved out of Michigan to get my children away from the gangs n drugs

Great band! Not related. Stewart Copeland named the band The Police. Restless, Stewart decided to form a trio fashioned on the vibe and energy of punk music. He would call this project “The Police,” a provocative name in its time that capitalized on the everyday brawls that broke out between punks and law enforcement: a regular police presence in the streets of London meant free marketing for his band.
A highly commercialized tune but such a magnificent song from a GREAT artist. Thank you my dear, I hope you enjoy.
You just can't go wrong with Bob Seger. The greatest story teller in rock.
Exactly...Bob is timeless...Like a Rock!!!!
There’s nothing better to hear some great rock and great lyrics and performance. The way meatloaf and the instrumental use was unreal. Why can’t today’s performers do this?
There`s no one like Bob and his band...I been rocking to them since their beginning...True legends...Thank you for reacting.
Bob doesn't have any bad songs so just jump on in
The way he constructs a song balancing the past and the present in one’s life, it’s just amazing. I love him.
This song connects with most older men, they remember their youth and those lost days.
Hello my dear. Bob Seiger, you can't miss. Love this one.

A lot of his songs focus on remembering youth.

One of rocks greatest storytellers. Good rabbit hole to go down. Great reaction!! Thank You!!
Good comments. Try some more Bob Seger when you have the chance. One of the most consistent and down to earth artists. Solid. Like a rock.
As I get on in years this song means more to me then ever.
Bob Seger's " against the wind" is my favorite by him. Thanks for playing this one.
Bob Seger is an American treasure, all his songs are great. Try some of his upbeat classics like "Sunspot Baby" "Her Strut," or "Katmandu."

Empress, you’re dabbling in all the good old stuff. Bob Seeger was a very creative guy. His song “Down on Main Street” is on my permanent playlist.
He's a legend, I've been a fan since the seventies....... he's incredible

Youth is wasted on the young
Look....I'm still buying a Ford.
No one "sampled" back then as it was stealing and showed you had no writing talent.
Great song, great reaction, beautiful woman (you)!
