Enjoyed competing against you and those great teams y’all had as I was coming up. You all were the standard and set the bar for everyone else. Later, getting to play with you and share the dugout was an honor, but getting to know you and becoming your friend was even better. Noting but respect for you always buddy. Congratulations on a historic career. Selfishly I’m glad, as now we can play some more golf!!!

everyone looks at me in disbelief when I tell them that this guy made me pop up to the infield on multiple occasions. many times I had his team on the ropes and he would get three easy outs in the bottom of the seventh. the first time this happened was in euless Texas 2006. I came up with the bases loaded with a chance to either tie or go ahead late in the game. if I could do anything back then it was that I could hit home runs. three in one count he threw one that I thought was right down the middle and I flew out to the third baseman. I came to the dugout and sat beside Todd joerling. I said "Todd, I don't know what happened the ball was right down the middle in it went to the third baseman." he said " Kirbs.. don't let it ruin you for the rest of the tournament... that's just Andy"
I also remember early in my softball career wishing this guy would retire before me so I could have a few easy major rings. he literally broke his back in 2007 and was back within two or three tournaments. I realized I would be long gone before he was so I made it a mission to beat this guy. I took great pleasure in hearing him screaming when we were ever on the winning side of a battle. andy, I'm grateful to have competed against you. congratulations on being the best ever to play the game.

It’s funny that you talk about his knuckle ball I remember playing in a charity tournament in Gilroy ca in 2003 with him he was sponsored by mizuno at the time and I was catching him and he threw the first knuckle in warm ups and it was nasty lol I picked his brain on how to throw it he taught me and that was the start of my pitching career I only played up too B level and then C but damn that pitch helped he win some big games.

Never came across as a warm guy watching from afar, but was probably the most competitive player that hated losing more than any player I've ever seen. Was fun to watch him the last 20 years.

Having retired from softball myself back in the 90s, and now being in my 70s, it has been great getting to watch you play on u-tube. Best of luck in your future.

There is life after softball. Enjoy it while you still can. The “team” will be fine without you. There is golf, fishing, hunting, sleep in on weekends and trips with your family. The only trophies worth anything are those your team mates selected for you. Trash the others. HOF will be coming. Keep those. I enjoyed watching you play. I wish I could have tried to hit that knuckle. The only pitch that ever struck me out…looking.

Definitely not taking away anything AP.. but I wish we got this when Helmer, Wegman, Kirby or Bryson retired.. I’d argue they did just as much for slowpitch

Wow congrats Andy P. I remember my friend invited me to play in a charity softball tournament in Gilroy California back in the early 2000’s and Andy is good friends with my best friends uncle and I see this big Ass white dude walking up and my friends uncle says there is our pitcher. I was catching at the time and I remember his first pitch in warm up was a knuckle ball it was nasty after I seen that I had to know how to throw it he gave me some tips and that’s when my pitching career started. He was sponsored by mizuno at the time and that was when the orange crush came out and I remember him pulling 3 out his bag brand new in the wrappers and he gets one out and starts hitting the pole in the dugout with it and I was standing next to him and he says to me this is how you break these in you have to get a nice wave in it and it makes it hot I never seen anything like it 😂 I was swinging a Miken ultra 2 at the time and i remember our first game we we were up by big and we needed one run to dip this team I get up to bat with Andy on 3rd and I hit a laser over his head for a double to end the game it had to been traveling over 100mph ultra 2s were nasty hot!!!! . He comes up to me after the game and says damn bro you trying to kill me lol it was an awesome experience knowing I played with an elite ball player like Andy. Congrats Andy

I remember my first time hitting him. That knuckle ball was ridiculous. Trying to focus on the ball to hit it and then being mesmerized by how bad the ball was moving. That was back in 06 when I was with R&D. I remember playing against Andy in the 90’s before I went into the military. He was a really good hitter back then. Congrats on your retirement Andy. Hopefully you’ll continue to keep softball part of your life. It still needs you. Your the best buddy don’t ever forget that.
