He's not.
He said being around Ricky is like having a dangerous pet. And described him as an iron lung, that he sort of needs but wishes he didn't.

He's dead right about the gyms vs hardware shops, in some places at least. It's more pronounced for city dwellers near the centre who don't have a car to get to B&Q outside town.

To the uninitiated he may seem like a simple moron, but whenever he philosophizes it is always straight to the matter truth that he delivers to us. If Russell was a genuine friend, he would encourage Karl to get his own production company. Many comedians do so as it's where the money is at. Karl as always has everyone else muscling in on him, mostly Ricky.
