Nice to see you repping Motion RC! I ran through 3 70mm F16's getting into the hobby a year ago. First one, no gyro never flew an EDF in my life, good take-off, bank turn and it fell out of the sky. Second one, gyro this time, did not comprehend the need for speed and it too fell out of the sky. Third one, did not understand pitch correction on gyro and it flipped and nosed into the ground. I almost quit the hobby and not even had a full battery pack run. Now I have a 64mm F22, twin 50mm SU27, Flightline P51 and a new addition, 64mm F8 Crusader. Don't be discouraged on your first outings, triple check your settings and go go go!
Great review guys as usual. I’ve been covering the Lanxiang F-16 with light cloth and poly for years. Finally an EPO full flying stab 70mm F-16, finally!
Love how motion RC gave these planes to every RUclipsr to post a video all at the same time. First day these videos started showing up, Motion sold out that day. One day the rest of us will get our hands on one.
I just got the V2 maidened on the weekend. With AS3X, a 3700mah pack and aft CG I was having a high alpha ball! Was throwing her around in no time. Bloody heap of fun! Great vid team!
I appreciate your comparisons to the E-Flite 70mm F-16 which was one of my early EDFs. It was a great EDF trainer and a great flying plane. It's expiration date arrived unexpectedly (as they all do) a few months back. The Freewing looks next level and exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks for the vid
I crashed my Eflite 70mm F-16 a couple of months ago and went to order another (my 4th) but it was on backorder. Glad it was because it allowed me to get this one when it became available. Put the receiver in last night and just ordered a KMRC Afterburner. Yep, I love the F-16, they just fly good, it's me that gets stupid. And now with the ARF Plus option available, it'll be cheaper to replace 🤣
I’d like to see a review of the Freewing 64mm Jets with all moving differential stabilators. Especially the “2 bros RC” special touch. I know it’s near impossible to pull out the Y harness to run 2 separate servo extensions but it could easily be cut at the y split and re-soldered to make a new connection.
I think this is what the V2 F-16 should have been from the beginning. Freewing really messed up the V2 release without the fully flying stabs. I've complained on both RCGroups and Hobby Squawk forums for years. Now I have to buy yet another F-16.
We feel you there with FMS and E-flite. While we love 'em both, the fixed stab F-16s are just nowhere near as capable. But on the upside, they do make for a great trainer platform!
Thanks! Preparing my V2 maiden :) But I have also the V3 motor for that extra thurst in near future :) I have programmed flaps and also flaps to elevator for maybe high alpha and loops...
Definitely don't drop flaperons in high alpha. Any amount of dropped flaps reduces critical angle of attack, meaning you can't hold the nose as high without stalling.
@@TwoBrosRC I thought flaperons for landing as you mentioned and ailerons up (like crow) for trying high alphas. That’s of course pretty up in the beginning… Would that be OK you think? :)
@@TwoBrosRC this one with full stabs and as you programmed it looks insane but I need muuuch hours on the clock before I’m there. Nevertheless I have been practicing a lot with an RC Factory Turbo beaver this types of configurations in the winter. Just for getting used to the switches and practicing 3D the cheaper way without destroying a bigger plane 🤣
just an idea, as an added effect for those afterburner lights is a micro smoke machine. the smoke will get lit up by the led and make some realistic afterburner look. i might try that with my f16.
New tip for all foam wheels. When you get them squeeze them real hard all around to break them in. Try on one wheel and compare it to the one you dont squeeze. It becomes softer i have this jet and i just tried experimenting and im surprised it worked.
That technique isn't enough to make the wheel soft. It just compresses it a little. You'd get the same effect from consistent takeoffs and landings, but it still won't make the wheel sound better or absorb impact.
@@TwoBrosRC yeah I've been looking at alternatives. My miniz 4x4 stock tires is the perfect size. If glued properly it holds air. Just waiting for a good weather.
I will be buying one of these soon and I'd like to start out with the more conservative throws in the manual since I'm newer to EDF's. Otherwise I'd like to mostly copy your setup (taileron AS3x stabilization, flaperons, tailerons and elevons on a switch). Is there anything you would recommend changing from your setup if using lower throws at first? I assume you'd recommend removing the freewing control box if using an as3x receiver?
If you're going for less throw, the easiest way to do that is to stick with the stock stab servos and use 100 travel instead of 150. The control box can be kept if you want to use it.
@@TwoBrosRC Are there any ports worth using on the control box? Also, are the 150% throws the main reason you went with upgraded servos not necessarily speed or torque? I was thinking of going with the Hitec HS-85MG if needed. Thanks!
Only got a 6 channel receiver and transmitter, only 1 switch on it which I’m gonna have to use for wheels, no gyro change, no flaps, inexperienced at landing (I’m cooked)
I knew you were gonna knock it out of the park with this one!! I however stalled mine in the high alpha! 😂 I think if I had tailerons set up the AS3X would of helped it not stall. Didn't have enough altitude to fully recover so I basically belly landed it with minor damage to the intake part (it's already repaired). Anyways Awesome flying!! 🫡🫡
I just bought this F-16 jet in the Arctic camo, an awesome looking plane. I have flown the 64mm F-16 for ages in the original version with a stab and elevator, soon I will swap out those stab/els for full flying stabs just to see the difference. One thing I can see that you appear not to have trouble-shot the XFly 80mm Alpha Jet, I would like to see that. This jet does not seem to like to fly slowly, it needs the speed. Oh and it takes up the whole R/W on landing if you don't use a reverse thrust ESC. Anyhow, I'd like to see you check the Alpha out, I think it has great possibilities in the right hands.
It definitely doesn't take up the entire runway for us, and the jet absolutely flies pretty slow so long as you're feeding in throttle as the nose is held up.
Our mistake, we thought you were referring to the F-16. The transition from the F-16 to the Alpha Jet was lost on us. We don't have one and no idea if we'll ever get one, sorry!
Ah, so sorry about confusion TBRC. Seems the XFly 80mm Alpha Jet has been very popular for about a year now I've noticed, thought you would have had tried ops-checking one by now. It seems to kill pilots whom fly it too slowly (must have something to do with the "anhedral" wing affect). I can recall having a Vampire Jet with an anhedral that was similarly unstable as the Alpa Jet seems to be. The British had a real winner there with their twin boom/rudder design and the anhedral wing was effectively great as fighter aircraft go. Maybe someday you might get your hands on an Alpha Jet and show us some real maneuverability excitement throughout that aircraft's flight envelope!
I have some SMC 4400HV (about 600g) for my 80mm Mirage. They are about the same weight as the recommended Admiral 4000, but that just sounds kinda heavy for a 70mm. What do you think?
So I ordered one of these before I probably can't help myself next year to a (hopefully by then available) 90mm F16. I have never flown an F16 so I figured better learn it on an inexpensive version ey? Anyways I have watched your Viper 80 setup vid and i will defiantly keep the adverse yaw affect in mind when setting up my gyro. Can you tell me or point me to a setup guide for throttle based gyro gains? I basically only want to know for this jet what linear coefficient are you using multiplied by throttle percentage and added to a fixed gain value to get optimal high gains at low speed and reduced gains at full throttle? Can you point me to vid maybe where you explain this? Cheers
@@TwoBrosRC Thanks, I'll check it out. Man I haven't had FW Servos for a long time in operation and I got used to my 8,4V HV Heli Servos. So I googled a bit and almost fell of my chair when I realized these were analog servos in 2024!! Hi john, your vids are great especially showing your transmitter controls. Do you think that if i lower the rates on the rear elevator stabs, that this could be more a new edf friendly a plane? Thanks guys. Keep up the great flying vids!
We'd definitely recommend the FMS F-16 or E-flite F-16 70mm over this jet. Full flying stabs, even limited, can get you into a lot of trouble if you're not used to them.

The FMS motor simply wouldn't fit without extensive mods to the duct cover, and we figured someone would complain that it "wasn't being flown stock" even though we picked up the ARF. Mostly just because we weren't interested in modifying the duct compartment significantly to make it work out.
Ya that actually makes sense. But couldn’t you just put the fms motor and fan in the freewing housing? I’ve tried fms internals in an eflite housing and it fit just fine. Maybe it’s different with the freewing stuff?
Interesting. I would have thought the sizes would be pretty generic since the inner housing should be the same for all 70mm jets regardless of brand because shouldn’t they all be properly sized for 70mm? I guess I’ll have to get one and see what kind of nonsense I can stuff in there 😅

Tailerons? Thats a new term, ive always been told people call it elevons (: because in first place it'll still be an elevator if i remember correctly
Elevons are only found on pure delta wings. The actual term for the F-16's all moving tail is "differential stabilators", or "tailerons" colloquially.
