    thanks for your video and explanation! Great job and expertise. I was wondering, if it would be possible to reuse the old microphone from the laptop as well (i guess an audio amplifier board will be needed) and combine it with the webcam image through the same usb connection? How would you approach that? Would love to hear from you. Thx, Greetings from Austria

    If you peel back the sleeve over the cables you should find a twisted pair of cables - these are data + and Data - . A resistance check between the large circular tracks and the remaining cables should show almost zero Ohms to identify ground. There should be a power regulator (or transistors ) for the voltage supply and the output will have almost zero Ohms resistance to the power wire. In your video you jump between yellow and red for power. I don't know why !

  • @sup3rbird
    @sup3rbird 5 лет назад +6

    To make identifying the wire a little easier, the data wires are very often twisted together to reduce interference.

    Worked fine for me. The wires coming out of my modules had much much lower impedance so a multimeter didn't tell me much. But after taking off another mounting plate, I found the pin out labelled on the board (!) and the rest was very easy given your pin configuration. I hope I have soldering skillz like that someday.

    Probably post same comment in the TIYperk video but I have to say, I have tried this with 5 difference webcams from differnet laptops, none of them remotely resembled the one both you and DIYperk use with the ground around the screw holes. To make matters worse no matter where I try to ground it this method doesn't work. I swear it's like every manufacturer uses different colour cables and to top it off Apple uses different colours on same model laptops... Kind of starting to think it's not worth the effort. :-/

      I'd never thought of that before. I knew that most built in webcams used the USB interface, but I hadn't thought about salvaging the camera. I've got probably a dozen dead laptops with cameras (used to run an IT shop).
      I've got a computer connected to my TV, I'm going to see if I can find one with a built in mic and build it in to my entertainment center. I'll be able to video chat with my daughter and grandson. Right now I just move my laptop to the TV when we have video chat.

This was extremely helpful. I don`t have a soldering gun and/or diode so I`ll ask a guy i know to do it for me. Hey, dude how's it going? I had the same camera I guess which hold number CK7794V-0 with a little bit different wires colors, I checked the connecting cables with a multimeter and I found out that there are two wires give beeps as if those are GND, is that possible, while red cable gives 1179 so I think this is data - while orange one gives 1169 that is probably data + and the last one is black that is the Volat, I have followed the video and connected the wires but I could not get it worked Windows could figure it out and the derive file is not supported by Windows 10 , Any advice plz

    Hello sir, i just brought a ASUS VivoBook 15 X510UF (X510UF-EJ592T) laptop few days back, and found that the web camera is a VGA cam which is extremely poor in quality, am thinking of replace the cam with a decent HD cam with a good pixel rates. my question is "can we do that in real ?" if yes where can i find and purchase the suitable replacement camera ? can you please guide me through this ?..

    • @TheValinov
      @TheValinov 4 года назад +2

      @@MsAxelfoly to reduce the voltage from 5V down to about 3,0V. Because one diode reduces the voltage by ~ 1V =)
      5V might be to much and roast the camera sooner or later.

      @@TheValinov how do i know that my webcam needs 3 Volts ?

    • @TheValinov
      @TheValinov 4 года назад

      @@hannazakiy9861 i assumed it, because 3,3V is a quite normal voltage for a lot of things in PCs and notebooks. 5V aswell. the best thing would be a datasheet of your webcam, but i didn't found any for mine.

    1. Can one attach more than one such usb cam to laptop?
    2. Can one record the video and save as a file?
    3. Does it capture audio?
    4. Can software support 3-4 such usb cams like cctv monitor?

      The notebook cam acts like a usb webcam but without sound.
      1. Yes, like other usb webcams too.
      2. Yes, with a program, that can record from a webcam. Like windows camera app or VLC media player.
      3. Normaly not. If thre a microphone you have to hook it up separatly to your sound input. You have also to use an amplifier for the mic. You can build it by yourself: ruclips.net/video/SToBPCajwc0/видео.html
      4. Yes, with a program that can record from mutible usb webcams. For example iSpy.
