Ricki Gilmour, also known as "Gilly," is an Australian transplant to the USA, living in California, working for KYB suspension. Ricki has had a unique relationship with Eli Tomac, working as his suspension technician, off and on, for Eli Tomac's entire Pro Supercross and motocross career. He also helped Dylan Ferrandis win his 2021 Pro Motocross 450 Championship and he's worked with many other top riders.
Ricki's job never ends, he's at the races on the weekends, traveling to and from the races two days out of the week and he's at the track testing or in the shop working on suspension the other days. When we spoke with Ricki at the 2023 Seattle Supercross, he didn't know where he was going the following week. Either Florida to test with the Star Racing Yamaha team, Colorado to test at Eli Tomac's house, or home to Southern California, to work in the Yamaha shop. In this interview, Ricki tells us about his job and his history working with Eli Tomac from the Geico Honda 250 days to his current program with Star Racing Yamaha.

What a good guy! So happy Eli is racing outdoors😄👍
Me too it will definitely make everyone step up their game with ET3 and Webb.
Don't forget Jett Lawrence outdoor 450 this year
@@sauce1232 oh man great point! Lord willing I will be at the Thunder Valley round for sure!!
No doubt!
Great interview. Goes to show that it takes a whole team (lots of people) for ET’s success. Props to Eli and everyone involved!
also shows what bubba has been saying. Eli's not totally comfortable on the new model yet. I've been saying it all season, we have not seen beast mode. Nobody would touch him if he was 100 percent with his bike. it's got twitches.
I wonder what his payroll is just for Eli , practice bike mechanic, how about the food budget to eat correctly over the whole season , wow
Cool to hear a aussie making the most of it in the states. Never heard of this guy all the best from Australia 🇦🇺 nice work 👍
Rick sounds like a real Aussie living his dream in America 🇦🇺
Great great interview Josh, Ricki is a suspension Wizard
Awesome interview, sir.
that was an awesome behind the scenes video. Super interesting and lots of great info.
Such a great interview! I could listen to that for hours.
Very cool insight from the master of suspension! Killer for Ricky to be riding, testing and doing Elis setup like that!
Josh you are bangin off some awesome stuff man!
awsome behind the scenes insight, keep that coming.
This was a sick vid. Thanks for changing it up Bro
The Aussie bones 😂 so cool!
Respect to Ricky for sharing the day to day work as a suspension technician. Great interview!
Congrats!!, great and quite interesting interview!!
Awesome content.
Many thnx guys
Great interview!
Great interview. Thanks.
What a wild job, very cool but definitely not easy!
We've heard so much about Gilly and have never really heard from him! Great content!
Aussie's 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
"Yea" could be a Drinking game. I enjoy Mosey's commentary, informative and to the point.. Yes, i agree, to the point or on point. He's driven. Should do, will do. Makes (???) happy. Be aware of your reply to the interview. 👍👍👍Oh Yea! Say Hi to Jody W.
I believe Kawi firing Gilmore is the reason for Eli's decline in performance there.
You sure he was fired?
@@vaughanscott7308 John Tomac said he was let go from Kawi in an interview last year.
best suspension to theline !
That was a good interview though. Learned a lot
How Aussie, 4 x gold logo on the jacket 🤣 legend 🇦🇺
I wonder where they keep their notes? And what type of data is listed in those notes.
Great interview. Funny how he says he still rides i think all suspension techs should get out and ride the bikes even if there are 10-15sec or more a lap slower so much to be learnt in riding the bikes then just reading a spec sheet.
Amazing 🤩
Awesome video
Ricki g . Superstar from lawnton !
Correction; Eli Tomac has 6 wins! Not 5
The man behind Eli is his dad
Elito Mac?
Eli left his problem at Kawasaki crew .With this recent neck thing and Adam C.'s round up poisoning .It's so obvious who is doing it sur- ley motive, who will keep wrenching ,and who has ? Have Ricki watch your back and neck ! Don't let people creep up behind you ! Symptoms of round up poisoning are fingernails extreme pain',stiff sore neck it's very cruel and painful I hope you give the Kowerd's what they deserve! ( inconSpic u was) no thirteen
Plz explain
you think he is being sabotaged? Its bike setup like bubba has said and his own suspension guy just said.
@@AUSTIN_457 Anderson's crew
Secret? Everyone knows about him haha
This is some of the best content this year.
Great interview!!
Nice job, great interview 👍
Tomacs dad is the secret behind his success
That’s what I was thinking; however, there are many people involved.
John can’t do suspension & Eli can’t ride fast without it so Gilly is the man on that side of it. Takes a team not just 1 person.
Brilliant. Thanks for that
Excellent! This is MXA👍
Super cool interview don't get to hear from these guys very much, but they definitely have a huge impact behind the scenes on how successful a rider career can be when everyone is so close in speed that little extra edge makes a huge difference. Definitely a cool story kind of shows how stubborn the factories can be with Kawasaki not wanting to work with this guy Eli kind of prove them wrong I don't see how they can say with 2020 hindsight this guy would not have been a good hire at Kawasaki to work with Eli on suspension when that literally is the most important part of the motorcycle at this top top level.
Did Ricky just out Tomac? Sounded like Ricky was saying he thought it was the bike? Tomac didn’t wanna blame the bike so he blamed his neck? Who knows 🤷♂️
You can watch the bike and see its having issues... look in long rhythm lanes, instead of driving through the bike has a weird shake in the bottoms of the transitions, especially when it's rutted, wet and sticky, where other bikes drive right through and they're able to pick up a lot of time on him. Even then he's been good in the tighter stuff and flat(ter) corners. And when he doesn't have those transition issues, he's also great in the whoops, when he does have those issues he also struggles in the whoops.
The chromoly steel frame/chassis with their flex look the best in those areas, he must be a bit stiff and running really stiff suspension
Mxa and mosiman always with the best content
Great interview! Always love MXA at the track
Nice 👍 idol
Awesome video, as a Tomac fan, I loved this video. Thanks a lot
I’m disappointed!!!
That this didn’t go for at least an hour or 4!!
And the fact that Ricky is wearing a bloody Queensland jackets!! 😂😂
Go the blues Ricky!!
Could you imagine the stories Ricky would have! Tomac wins first ever pro outdoor! 5-0 to start 2015 and 30-60 seconds faster than everyone!! Plus in-depth analysis on how Tomac rides compared to others (without giving secrets away of course)
Good interview 🤘🤘🤘
Guilly boy 🏁
Great interview. Looking to the future I hope he’s talking to Brian Deegan.
Shit that was good thank you.
Great interview!
Can you sponsor me
His dad??
Yes his father John Tomac!!
Id like to start an apprenticeship on the team!
Eli tomac is a beast MX des Nations was probably the best race I've ever seen in my life in person
It was an awesome race to be able to witness in person,if we could only get two days of good weather, never get to see that again, sad😢
wish he was comfortable on this new bike so we can see beast mode once this year. these people that say he's gone beast mode in 23 are high
Jett Lawrence vs Eli tomac will be 🔥
Best video you’ve ever made
was an awesome
I wonder what he means by put “together a package”? Do they have different shape valves or is it just different shims or do they adjust spring rates or all of it?? I don’t know much but it would be interesting to hear a little more of the technical aspects.
Trade secrets, hush hush...
I noticed eli's bike was nose high coming off the last whoop and some of the jumps before corners, with that his speed in the heats and his qualifying times, It makes me wonder if he's having bike setup issues.
he is
Good to see Ricky supports the real side too! legend
Hahaha. Fucken oath.
