    John and Catherine are a husband and wife team from Southern Connecticut. We grow food and flowers on the new 40 acre farm we just bought and are building from the ground up using reclaimed materials whenever possible.

    Pretty good honest review here!I have 4 large hens(barred rock).These are small coops,but not much smaller than their 3x priced counterparts.I bought 2 of these same coops and joined them with a 4x6 pre-fabricated run.Plan on 2 large chickens per coop,plus you need some kind of run for them.Good enough coops to stall racoons,cats,opossums if not keep them out altogether.But be sure to get a roll of tie wire to secure any flaws.I added the tie wire just to be sure as I pushed in on every square inch with my hands to test the coops.If I thought any possibility to get in then I beefed it up a bit.

    The coop you reviewed is really cute > I can see my cat claiming it as HIS summer cottage! (It looked really nice/goes with your house, so sweet that you guys gave it to Mom❣️

    I have one similar to this one but it's taller. We added a few extra boards to strength it and removed the tray and put in a larger mesh so the poop falls through to the ground and I just rake it out.

      oh mesh floor is a good idea. The roosting bars seem so low to me. did you change those at all?

      @@OldReddingFarm yes we did.

    There's only 2 nesting boxes in those coops. Will they share those two or week they need one for each?

    What a great review for people , glad ya didn’t sugar coat the negatives. It is a decent style coop for first time chicken owners but definitely not for us either.

      Yah for someone who has no other choice it would be an okay place to start but really if you can build it yourself, you'd be better off for sure. But I get not everyone has that skill set and anyone in the world could do this

    Just bought one, it arrives Saturday. We have fishers and raccoons in the area so I'll use wore meshing for a skirt and is there anything else you can suggest? 3 red black sex links are going to be living in it.

    Thanks. I'm going to get the larger version (AIR46) for a new flock of 8-10. Will your referral link work for that model? I know it's not as durable as a build-it-yourself, but I don't have the skill for that. These seem pretty easy and idiot proof on assembly. Will definitely add a buried hardware cloth skirt all around to protect against predators. My last pre-fab coop lasted 10 years in a pretty mild SoCal climate (though probably should have replaced a few seasons ago) If I can get similar out of this one, I'll be happy.

    I’ve always wondered about the quality of these types of coops as they always look so flimsy.

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  2 года назад +1

      fir sure not as strong as something home built, but thats not an option for everyone and we know it. so at least if thinking about this you can see a little more about what youre getting into..

    Nice video except for me sticking out my tongue. (That was supposed to be on the cutting room floor.)
