speaking from personal experience, having no dad is better than having a dad that actively does not care about you or your well-being. I wholeheartedly agree she should just get rid of him, at least until he’s mature enough to realize their daughter is here because of him just as much as the mother and it’s equally his responsibility to ensure she’s taken care of.

I absolutely agree. The only disagreement my son's father and I ever had, even before I was pregnant, was about my schizophrenic mom. I had gotten out of an extremely physically abusive relationship a few months before we got together. I got too drunk and fell in my driveway when he was dropping me off. Of COURSE he laughed at first - because it was funny - but I fucked my face up royally. He was about to help me up and everything, realizing it was serious because it had only been a few seconds, but I was wailijg and my mom heard and ran out.
Since she can't think straight and everything she learned about my previous relationship, she immediately blamed him saying he pushed me or hit me and was giving me pills (which was an addiction I had that she was in denial about at the time). He of course got defensive and yelled back saying I fell and he was about to help me up, but she saw him laughing and they kept arguing until he left in a huff. This was the beginning of our relationship and we were together two and a half years.
The only issue we ever had was that he wouldn't educate himself or open himself to understanding that my mom can't think clearly like a normal person and it was coupled with what I had gone through previously.
Maybe he never believed me, I don't know. But the fact that he refused to even try to understand another point of view over two years should have been a huge red flag.

I could tell by their reactions the kind of tension that was there. That mothers reaction didn't come from a place of compassion, it came from a place of anger. In fact she probably told the girl not to make her look bad on national television, so her correcting her about not saying she was disappointed was her way of saying 'you better watch your mouth'. You can tell by her physical movement and tone, plus the girls reaction to it like 'yeah right, but if I continue I'll never hear the end of it off screen'.
The mom is offended that the girl doesn't feel comfortable being open and the girl doesn't feel comfortable coming to her own damn mother because she's clearly judgemental and would not be kind to her.
Having a mother like this I knew all too well the reactions and when I have kids I want them to know they can talk to me about ANY THING. I don't ever want my kids to be afraid to come to me like I was with my mother, like she is with hers.

a nurse once told me that if you need to have your finger poked, press your thumb to the tip of your finger pad and push/press down the finger. This shifts and moves some of the nerves away from the site of the poke, and it helps a lot with the pain/annoyance of the needle prick. The guy who gave me my IV to inject contrast dye last time I had a CT scan needs to teach. No joke, he put an IV in my left arm and I didn't even know it. I was lying on the CT table, arm on a rest/board thing, and he was showing a young woman shadowing him (probably for residency or interning), and he was talking her through how to prep the area and do this, do that, if you tape this over here it secures everything, then they move across the room. I ask when are they going to put in the actual IV and he's like "Oh, it's already done!" and I look over to see a needle in my arm vein lol. No joke, and actually kind of scary lol, he probably could have put that in while I was asleep and not wake me.
In contrast, when I had the surgery that scan was for, the damn OR nurse put the IV in the back of my hand and that hurt, a LOT, and kept hurting the same, all the time, it never stopped until I was put under, and it hurt as soon as I was back conscious.

I really wish more people understood that “highschool sweethearts” are extremely rare and glamorized on tv. The divorce rate in the United States is literally 50/50. Imo, teenagers really shouldn’t be allowed to be in relationships. From a girl that’s talked to so many guys since I was 14 (never sexual), being taught from a young age in all these Disney movies glamorizing relationships, and reinforcing the idea that if you aren’t in one, you’re worth less. And, (coming from a 19 year old) teens are stupid. There’s very few that are very self aware, but a lot of them are just figuring out life and learning how to be themselves and sooo many teens get consumed in relationships that are toxic for them, end up getting them in trouble, and just causes more heartbreak and search for validation than happiness. Never be in a rush or look for a relationship. 9/10 when you’re looking for one, it’s usually not going to last long at all.

This. Now I wouldn’t go so far as to say that teenagers shouldn’t be in relationships, I do agree that Hollywood and media do glamorize the “high school sweethearts” thing so much that it gives a rather inordinately idealistic view of said relationships. Teenagers are walking, talking chemical imbalances who are just trying to get used to life and their growing autonomy. Most adults barely have their lives figured out, let alone teenagers who usually have no idea what’s in store for adulthood and are still developing the introspection, fore-planning, and the ability to grasp consequences.

When my mother was pregnant with me at 19 I read the letter her dad wrote to her about making up her mind and later found letters from my dad accusing me of plotting against him, being manipulative, making him look bad, having a 'look' that apparently indicated to him that I was trying to deliberately ruin his life. He wrote this about a toddler, the man strangled her until she passed out during the pregnancy and as much as I love her the dense cow didn't get it through to her head that maybe MAYBE this sort of violent psycho shouldn't be trusted around her kids(?!), especially not leaving us alone with him. I told he to sort out her daddy issues, she left the country for another alcoholic psycho who tried to murder us when we followed her over there to gt away from our dad, then got pregnant again at 45 to a dude who already told her to chose between her kids and him explicitly. I told her to have an abortion because it would be kinder as her two other kids wish they hadn't been born as it is. I'm so sorry, hope you are healing good! My mother also chose horrible people over her kids. My dad was a bit of an alcoholic (stopped drinking when I was around 6th grade) and had a messed up mentality about things, and had already had a child from a previous relationship that he had nothing to do with. I'm my moms oldest. She cheated on my dad multiple times. They got divorced, but one of the guys she cheated on my dad with she got with. He raped and molested me from 5-7. He was the biological father of my youngest brother. Luckily I spoke up and put him away. Then a year after she was bringing around ANOTHER guy who was an ex alcoholic and had been in jail for beating up a guy within an inch of his life. He didnt drink (at least around me and my brothers) until I was a freshman in high school. My mother cheated on him constantly as well, but he stuck around for us kids. Then when I was a freshman the cheating stopped (that I know of) and they BOTH became bad alcoholics. Now she is with ANOTHER guy. I dont know much about him since she got with him after I left (she actually kicked me out but that's a whole other story >

"I feel like Diego and I are just drifting apart; I wonder what happened."
You were forced to grow up due to your actions, but he just ran from responsibility because he's still a _child: that's_ what happened. It's less that you're "drifting apart" and more that you're finally seeing him for who he really is, now that he's no longer viewing you as a way to get laid.
PSA time: keep your legs closed until you're married. I know they said that was _their_ plan, so I'll go a step further: don't worry about dating when you're in high school. High school is (supposedly) for _learning,_ not for hooking up, and that's what they should've been focused on. Don't date someone who's a jerk to everyone but you, b/c it's only a matter of time until _you_ become "everyone" to him.

Obviously the first issue here is that they probably didn't even use protection in the first place but still.. In Sweden we were taught early about birth control, and I always took precautions growing up. Being a mother at 18 is in my opinion a really awful choice both for the parents as well as the child. Better to wait until one's older and have some economical stability as well as making sure you're in a healthy relationship.

A lot of people in America are religious, and are pro life because of that. Even if the parents have it tough, they don't consider abortion to be the solution to the problem.
Abortion is a band-aid fix to a deep-seated issue. Fixing the underlying problems and supporting at-risk parents is more useful than an invasive medical procedure that leads to the death of a child.

    • @jadecoolness101
      @jadecoolness101 3 года назад +11

@@lokiswager it's not a band-aid fix wtf? The issue is that the teen is having a baby. Getting rid of the fetus would 100% fix the issue of the teen having a baby, because the teen would no longer be having a baby. It's... the exact opposite of a band-aid fix, dude.
And a pregnancy scare is very effective in making a teen smarten up and not do it again. So.
