In USA we do not have ants that nest in a tree like that. We do have red ants in ground nests, and I was in my garden and suddenly they are biting me all over my legs. I had bad reaction and had to go to hospital. We do have carpenter ants that eat out the center of a tree trunk, which kills the tree.
I have never eaten ant eggs , i wonder what they taste like.
