- On 20 April 2021, Roxette's Per Gessle sat down in his Stockholm apartment to answer questions from a Belgian radio presenter. The reason for the interview is that Roxette's song "Joyride" reached number 1 in Belgium exactly 30 years ago. Topics discussed include "Joyride", Per's supposed secret formula for writing hit songs, Belgian band Clouseau who were the support act during the European leg of the Joyride tour, Mono Mind and Per & Marie's reunion in the afterlife.
Roxette's songs have received 2 billion streams on RUclips and 2.5 billion streams on Spotify. Some of their biggest hits include 'Joyride', 'The Look', 'Fading Like A Flower', 'It Must Have Been Love', 'Listen To Your Heart', 'Spending My Time', 'How Do You Do!' and 'Sleeping In My Car'. Singer Marie Fredriksson passed away in December 2019, after a 17-year battle with cancer.
R.I.P.. Marie..............we miss you.............xo
You're such a great talent still you're sooo modest! I'd say writing great songs that can eventually become evergreen hits is at least as important as singing perfectly. Per was born to be a songwriter, whereas Marie was born to be a singer... I think it explains the secret formula thing. Keep up the good work, Per! Please write more songs, I love your music! :)
Great interview, thanx a lot. ;)
What a great interview! Per comes off like a very, very serious musician who loves and respects his craft of making music. I have enjoyed Roxette for many years, and thanks to the insights that came out during this interview, I really know why I did! Thanks.
OMG! Love him so much! ❤👑
Legends never die diamonds are forever stay strong stay safe sending love from headway Nottingham UK takecare xxx
Absolutely loved this interview! Per is so down to earth! And like she said, wishing you a long life Per Dear 😊💖
Per!💖
Thank you for the interview. Roxette is my favorite band/duo of all time! I was so poor back then to attend any of their concerts, but now I'm able to pay internet services, this little snippets of interviews or concerts in RUclips become my consolation prizes🙏
@pergessleofficial_ Is this really Per Gessle himself replied to my comment? Because I'm gonna freak out now😲😲😲😲
@pergessleofficial_ Oh, hi! I'm based in NY, but currently I'm visiting relatives in Jakarta. I think I've been a fan since Pretty Woman came out. A lot of Roxette's songs become soundtracks of many events in my life. When I had my first broken heart I played It Must Have Been Love and Spending My Time in loop. My first birthday gift from my first boyfriend is Roxette Greatest Hits. Wish I Could Fly and Almost Unreal were the soundtracks when I had a huge crush on a classmate in uni. I Was So Lucky is the theme song for my first long-term relationship. Okay, I hope you don't think I'm crazy😂😂😂.
How are you, btw? Are you still making songs? I'm really sorry about what happened to Marie. What do you do nowadays? Is there any projects or news you can share?
@pergessleofficial_ I'm not on Google Chat and have tried to install it in the last hour to no avail. I'm sorry😢. Admittedly, I'm not particularly handy with technology😔. However, I'm really really grateful to have the opportunity to chat with you🙏🙏🙏. You've made my day😁💃🎉🎊💃💃💃🎉🎉
Thank you Per!!! You still have so much more beautiful music inside you my friend . Let it out ! God Bless You !!! 🍻
Helenas voice are magical, lovely !
Fantastic interview.❤❤❤❤
He still got the hair!
Helena and Per, I love you both, ni är bäst !
I imagine, In a platonic way it’s like losing a wife…..a sister…..a soul mate of sorts. 😞 I just CAN’T imagine the loss!! Xxoo
That is so true. There are reasons working in a band together is often referred to being like being in a marriage.
It's been so long since the first lockdown.
Since we make it at home. We know how time flies.😂.
😂😂😂
hey merciiiiiii
I am not a journalist, so I am never going to interview Per. But if I were I would ask him, if has he got the chance or has ever thought to realise the complete concert of the mystical Borgholm castle, where Listen To Your Heart video was recorded. Many fans have discussed about it and never got an answer.
I would also ask him if has he ever thought to realese a autobiography about him, his life during Gyllene Tider and Roxette's success? as Marie did. Or if has he ever thought about release a film, a series or a musical about Roxette's story o telling a story with only Roxette's songs? Something like ABBA maybe?
I saw this after I commented on another post but I've wondered that same thing about them doing a musical just to Roxette music. I think it would be great.
Warning: Being a Roxette fan may affect your car insurance rates. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
👏👏👏👏😘😘😘
Al español!!!! La traduccion por favor😭😭😭😭
Damn...the interviewer talks 10x more than Per... and super boring and predictable questions. Better luck next ime you have the chance to interview a legend.
Interesting comment. What topics should I've been discussing with him in your opinion?
@@beajoyrider I think he was just trying to be rude which is why he's never sent back an intelligent response. To be honest, I've always preferred interviews where it's more like a regular conversation rather than just straight questions and answers. So well done in that regard. It would have been interesting to hear his opinion on fan reactions to Roxette continuing on with Helena singing in Marie's place. I also always wondered what he would think of a Mamma Mia type musical, but written to Roxette music. It would also be interesting to get more of his opinion on todays music compared to what he grew up with and what was popular during Roxette's heyday. Of course, when you only have 15-20 minutes it's probably tough to jam a lot of questions in there. Keep up the great work from a fellow Roxer.
@@beajoyrider you shouldn't have talked so much about that cheesy belgian band (Klaus?). Belgians should probably stick to comics
I don't understand a word hahaha it's a wonder he didn't get called a racist brilliant drummer
