1st best Dana 60 disassembly video. I have the exact same truck only I still have the automatic hubs on it. One of the best videos I have seen on taking the Dana 60 front hub and spindle on and off the truck. I came back to it several times to refresh my memory of the assembly sequence. You covered every step very thoroughly. Not to be redundant but, thanks again.
Thanks John! I really appreciate that and I'm glad it helped you! The funny thing is that sometimes I have to go back and watch my own videos to remember how to do something. Haha. Take care.
Thanks for posting this video. I just finished a complete suspension/drivetrain rebuild on my 1992 F250HD front end and when I took my warn hub bolts off, I found all sorts of fun pieces and broken parts in there. I haven't driven it for a year.... I couldn't remember how they went together after taking them apart because they were in pieces and although I have had the premium hubs apart many times I was drawing a blank.(embarassing, I know) so I was searching the service manual and got tired of looking when I found your video. I couldn't remember where the darned snap ring went but your video showed me everything I needed help with. Thanks again - Dave
your a life saver... I had my bearings go out and the wheel fell off while driving. it completely shredded Everything and the parts were unrecognizable. it's my first time messing with the hubs on my truck so I didn't know what parts I needed...
You rock! Glad you used "Dana 60" vice vehicle name. I couldn't have done it better. Just rebuilt the kingpins on a 91 W250, everything was the same except the outer locking ring.
Thanks a lot. I need to see how it went back together considering I took my project axle apart about 4 months ago and forgot some of the order of assembly steps. That was PERFECT!
Thanks for this great video. I just acquired a 1984 CUCV M1008. The left hub wouldn't lock and now I see why. It's missing the snap ring and the lock ring that was hard to remove. Mine fell right apart. I did get it working but the stub axle is loose.
+PJ L Awesome! I'm really glad it helped you. I worked on a Blazer that had similar parts missing. Very strange that the parts just disappear somehow....
Thanks Jake! I did this project so long ago that I don't remember the specific tools that I used for the spindle bearing. It may have been a long punch or I may have just folded the bearing cage in on itself since it was going to be replaced anyway. I'm sorry I just can't remember...
Does anyone know if you can just put manual locking hubs from a 1st gen ram dana 60 onto a 2nd gen dana 60? My 97 has full time hubs but I want to swap them out for first gen locking hubs
I wish I could find a 2wd version of this for my 1987 GMC 3500, I know there's no front axle but does anyone have a video removing the rotors on a 2 wheel drive version of these trucks??
I have a older dodge I am working on and someone put the same front axle you have under the front end and I can't figure out what kind of axle it is can you please tell what brand you have also year and model of truck it is it would help me finish up my front rotors job thanks will
@@GodsCountry yes sir I found out there are 3 types of Dana 60 axles used yours and mine are 4500 pound axles and there are also a 3500 and 3800 pound axles the 4500 being the rarer of the 3 it is mixed with ford and Chevy parts thanks for the reply sir I appreciate it
Great video. One question about the caliper. When I took mine off it had a tiny spring type piece of metal for the inside brake pad at the bottom. Not sure if you need that or how exactly it goes back in haha.
gmjunky87 Hey GMJ. I don't remember having a spring piece on my brake pads. I looked through my pictures but I couldn't find any evidence of a spring. The only spring I can remember is the one that is used to mount the caliper. It's a flat piece of metal with a slight curve in it and small ears bent 90 degrees at the end.
oh ok thanks. yeah, this spring is really tiny and very thin and goes on the inner brake shoe on the bottom, my guess is to help keep it in place when you slide the caliper on. wish I could send you a picture. I just put my brand new caliper/hose/ and pads on and I still have slight drag after pressing the brake, if I tap on the caliper lightly it free's up . It's pissing me off haha. Not sure how much drag is normal for these bendix wedge style calipers
gmjunky87 Good video! It's tough to shoot video in the dark. I'm not a pro mechanic but I would be happy with that amount of spin/drag after you press on the brake pedal. Maybe ask around for a second opinion. I don't remember how free my wheels spin. Sorry. It's tough to remember because it's been about a year and a half since I did this brake job. I looked at the video and it doesn't appear that I had those springs on the pads that I took off. I don't remember having any on there. I really wish I could help you more! So sorry.....
Thanks! Yeah I'll have to ask around. I drove it and the left side didn't seem too warm, The right side I'll probably have to take apart and grease. It's an old CUCV truck and I've only driven it about 7k miles in the last 5 years haha. Thanks for the input! Yeah those little springs, not sure what they do exactly haha. You've helped plenty! Thanks for getting back to me!! Thanks for the great videos!!
Perhaps I missed it but when did you remove the snap ring on the axle that rides against the end of the spindle which keeps it from riding back toward the differential? I watched your video quite a few times trying to figure out where I had screwed up because I ended up with an extra snap ring and washer. Then it dawned on me that I had seen another video where the guy took the snap ring off as he was taking the hub off. I guess it’s a testament to the quality of your instructions that I would literally depend on them as THE way to do it. This is not a criticism just an observation. Thanks again for taking the time to post these videos.
Thanks for your help here! We figured out our "wheel hop of death" was the rt. ft. bearing on my '84 CUCV. Thanks for the clear, concise video! I might actually be able to take this on myself...lol Glad I found your channel, so subbed up!
that big thin external ring comes out a whole lot easier is you can get pliers on it and pull it around to "unscrew" it. Oh thx for the block on spindle trick. way better tan a chisel.

Thanks Dave! I'm glad it was helpful. You know what's embarrassing? When I have to watch my own videos to remember the details of a project.....

That's great Mike. I'm really glad it helped. I've had to go back to my own videos to review how something goes together so you're not alone!
Very informative wish all RUclips videos were like this one. Thanks !!
Thanks E! I'm glad it was helpful!
Nice work! I am doing my first brake job on a 87 K30 Army Truck
Thank you! I'm glad it helped!
Nice work. I was having lots of trouble trying to figure out how to get to my rotors and this video made perfect since. Keep up the good work!
Danyell Meyers Thanks Danyell! I'm glad it was helpful. I had to figure it out before I shot the video so you're not alone.

This is a Dana 60 axle. They have been used in lots of vehicles.

Nice video man. Did my Dodge 60. Takes time but worth it.

Hey John! You know, I'm not sure. It's been so long since I made this video and so long since I've been inside a Dana 60, I can't remember. I'm sorry.
great video, very informative, like your vehicle lift also.

It's possible that you did! This truck sat in one place for a long time before I bought it.
