I remember the very first time that I listened to this song. Was walking in downtown Chicago at 32F.(Cold night) This set was so inspirational for me that I made a promise to myself, work hard, make some money and travel to Iceland. It took me 12 years but finally reached 1 of my 5 goals set in my bucket list. Hanging aroung in Iceland while listening to this disc over and over was one hell of an experience. Thanks Nick for pushing us up with your music.
Those GU days were really special. Before social media and "EDM" - there were these CDs covered with breathtaking photography of some foreign city and some random number on it. And the dude (or dudes) on the front looked so cool you were sure they were from the future. And the music inside sounded like it. From Sasha to Nick Warren and Deep Dish to Dave Seaman - that era of underground music has indeed passed. But tonight, 13 years later, I fired up this album that I first listened to as a senior in high school. Although no one else around me shared the same feeling, I knew this shit was timeless. And boy was I right.
I love these sets so much, they're a staple for me at work. Many a bridge and building have been designed to these beats! Thank you Mr. Warren! Thank you sir!
Have you noticed nick warren seems the only dj who plays tracks that represents the country hes in? Thats a rare & unique gift man! This mix is has an icy cool vibe to it! Hes truly incredible, saw him live 1time & still remains best set ive ever heard! ❤️😁
A few years back I was seeing this really hot raver girl and one time when I was being cozy at her apartment she told me to wait in the livingroom because she had a surprise for me and needed to go into her bedroom to get it. I said "sure, I'll wait here" and she went. Then a few minutes later she comes back into the livingroom, puts this CD on, presses play and then starts dancing slowly in front of me while peeling her clothes off one by one and mine afterwards. I'll let your imagination fill in the rest but every time I hear this mix it reminds me of that moment and makes me smile. :)
Well i believe you. I had a similar situation except my girls attire changed from sexy short pants to leather, corset, a whip and high heels (not a hooker thankyou very much) just a great night! Woooo
This is one of my favourite GU releases, the perfect soundtrack to compliment the beautiful Icelandic landscape, thanks for uploading this classic mix.
Absolute masterpiece of a mix, the soundscape here is so vibrant. This album along with CD2 are must listens for any new DJ, the track selection and how its mixed together really make this album special.
Cuando tenia como 20 años no paraba de escucharlo, perdi el disco pero afortunadamente crearon youtube. Este es de los cinco mejores GU que se han grabado, sin duda.
Listening to this for the first time as I'm writing this, and needless to say my mind is being slowly blown to bits and pieces. This is the sort of stuff I'm always looking for but almost never seem to actually find.
Whenever I need to zone in or out to something, I always head for GU album. Truly inspiring stuff, even after all these years. Personally loving GU29 currently.
2003, April. A big bus, 50+ crazy guys. Source: Hungary, destination Mannheim, Maimartkhalle. Night, highway, cant sleep. Then i just discovered this awesome mix. Best GU, ever.
I did not expect this from Nick Warren - what I've listened to of him so far has been quite progressive house so this was a very pleasant suprise! I thought I'd listened to all the good down/midtempo of the 2000s - how wrong I was!
My favorite cd of Warren...although this is not the type of music he plays very often. The way he get us into that deep sexy smooth downstep is just brilliant.
Nick Warren is the king of soundscapes. He brings together a downtempo approach to trance music on CD1 that works extremely well. A bit overrated, because its not quite on the level of Northern Exposure, despite what some reviewers may have you think. Planet Funk's "Tightrope Artist Tale" is in my opinion the standout track of the first disc.
It's hard to believe this mix got lost in the shuffle; I rarely hear anyone recognize the genius of Nick Warren's programming anymore. *Sigh*, anyone know any other DJs that spin music similar to this GU mix? I've listened to these cds so much because I simply haven't found anyone who spins like this.
Check out Warrens Sound Garden podcasts, and The GU afterhours compilations 1 + 2, also some of Sander Kleinenbergs cafe Mambo Ibiza unofficial mixes he did in 2010
@tomas Lopez here you go buddy my friend dj acme was heavenly inspired by nick warren and that’s how he plays www.mixcloud.com/DeejayAcme/lazy-sunday-18/
@Thomas Lopez - the Sasha / Digweed Northern Exposure 1 disc "0 Degrees North" is what I'd compare this to the most. But Nick Warren's own Renaissance Masters Series 18 CD1 reminds me a bit of this as well.
08a Momu - The Dive 08b Mastermind - In Every Truth 09 Justin Simmons - Helga Möller (New Aluminists Remix) 10a Burufunk - Outsider 10b Global Communication - 14:31 10c MOT - 110 Mistakes 11 Grayarea - Yewminyst 12 Glimmer Of Dope - Love Lost
when GU was the only label he did this . hopefully you hurry and regain its quality before, since this quality of music is strange .... we want more GU !!!!!!

I'll never forget where I first heard a track from Ulrich Schnauss - Nobody's Home
I love these sets so much, they're a staple for me at work. Many a bridge and building have been designed to these beats! Thank you Mr. Warren! Thank you sir!

This mix is epic!!! It's like an art film!!! The sampling from the Movie Naked is so poetic!! Nick's the master!!!

He's also known as the "mashup master" very often he'll spun 2 or even 3 records into one... amazing!

Not only the best GU, my personal alltime no.1. album :)
Cuando tenia como 20 años no paraba de escucharlo, perdi el disco pero afortunadamente crearon youtube. Este es de los cinco mejores GU que se han grabado, sin duda.
Absolutely epic. Best Warren's mix ever. And, given that his last releases are going continuously crap, this will keep being the best ever.
+Javier Conde-duque Can't say I agree with you. Lima was amazing.
I remember this (these entire cd's) from a decade ago. And I saw Nick Warren outside of Way out West In Montreal. Amazing!

Probably my fave GU mix.
Paul Oakenfold Oslo runs a close second.
This set along with his Shanghai mix and also the Danny Howells GU Miami are my 3 fav GU releases
Listening to this for the first time as I'm writing this, and needless to say my mind is being slowly blown to bits and pieces. This is the sort of stuff I'm always looking for but almost never seem to actually find.

I did not expect this from Nick Warren - what I've listened to of him so far has been quite progressive house so this was a very pleasant suprise! I thought I'd listened to all the good down/midtempo of the 2000s - how wrong I was!
There's a strong connection between best Nick's mixes and Ulrich Schnauss tracks. "Including but not limited to" ))
Not heard this in years. Was stationed on Germany and this just transported me back to taking the train into central Berlin
never thought I would see the day that Boards of Canada made it into GU!!! HOLY SHIT
Yes boards is awesome!!! and this was from early 2000's when this cd came out
one of the best mixes of all time, as was the Prague CD Nick Warren did for Global Underground - awesome DJ, awesome series
this is genius work - I have this on vinyl - loved the fact GU released the downtempo tracks on it
a guy called c h o o same, the vinyl is dope
I hate the early Nick Warren mixes on this label but now he's probably my favorite DJ of all time and his later work on the label is among the best.
Pointless comment if you’re gonna comment on one of his older mixes

The GU as you know it...is dead.
These are the legacies of the past. Enjoy what you can
Unfortunately yes , but music labels you recommend?
Balance, Bedrock, K7, Crosstown Rebels...if you want a full list or association, Resident Advisor is the place to go
I already know those labels, something else again? I can spend some very good radio stations .
www.friskyradio.com/

GU was never the only label, but for a time, they were the best.
