Cleveland County in NC is generally considered the best high school football in the state because they have 4 teams : Crest, Burns, Shelby, and Kings Mountain that are considered powerhouses and compete for state titles in most years. Imagine how powerful their team would be if they had one big high school ( 4AA ) that had the best players from those 4 school's on it instead of being shared amongst 4 schools.
You could say that for a lot of other counties or cities in NC. Most areas talent is even more spread out too thin due to have too many schools. Cleveland County has the perfect amount of schools for their County.

On the other hand Charlotte Mecklenburg has 35 schools and only about 5 of them have won titles in the last 12 years and it is the same schools over and over. So, if you want success overall as a county look at the winning % of CC high schools versus Mecklenburg County schools. In CC they all win, but in Meck. County about 30 hapless teams and only 5 power programs. That is 100% versus less than 20%. My comment you replied to was based on results over a number of years and what most fans and sports media in NC have agreed with for years. It has been discussed many times year after year.
And before u reply just know I promise you no one in the state would want to play craven county in football and very year even if you just combined new Bern and havelock that’s not even including west craven
NC High School Football has eight classifications : 4AA/4A/3AA/3A/2AA/2A/and 1AA/1A. Crest has been in 4A in the past and 3AA also. It all depends on student enrollment numbers. I believe they are currently 3A. Their playoff classification is determined near the end of regular season games when final enrollment numbers are determined and team playoff classifications are set to ensure fairness. I believe in recent years Crest enrollment numbers usually hover around 1000 give or take about 50.Program strength is impressive when they can compete with South Carolina Powerhouse programs like 5A Gaffney with over 2000 enrollment ! It was a great game between two great programs. Go Chargers !
Since Cleveland county is on the state line the NCHSAA and the SCHSAA should schedule a game each year for all 4 schools to play an upstate team. Play teams like Gaffney, Cowpens, Blacksburg, York, Dorman, Clover, or Union. I know I'd like to see that happen! What do you think about it?
That's possible.... but remember Crest had the ball and a 6 point lead with under 4 minutes to go and scored a TD pass which would have put them up 51 to 38 but it was a penalty for holding that erased that TD and gave Gaffney a chance. Penalties hurt both teams, but it was a great game between two great programs !
Wish they would show the game from the press box. Can't hardly see the plays. Shaky camera also you can't really see what is going on other than players just running around. This isn't worth watching at all. This view sucks!!!
