    THANK YOU!!!!! I am 5 months pregnant and had a very hard time removing my engagement ring but forced it off. But no matter what I did I could not get the wedding band off. My finger was so swollen from the failed attempts trying different techniques. I did exactly what the video showed, although I had to use a small hair tie to keep my ring from moving on the proximal end, also I put on some dish soap when I was finished wrapping the floss but before starting to unravel. It did hurt some, but it came off in a minute. THANK YOU for posting and saving me an expense of not having to have my ring cut off!

      Thank you so much, this saved my finger and my mum's wedding band. My finger had swollen due to the heat and humidity, a little perserverance and redoing the wrapping further along the finger worked. Thanks!

    Thank you, much clearer than others I've watched.
    What I don't understand is why you used a sharp point of a safety pin to push the floss under the ring, even though you did tell people not to stick it into their finger. in every house there are thin, blunt pointed items that could be use such as a tooth pick, a cocktail stick, a darning needle, a knitting needle or a crochet hook.
    But most logically and what I tried first and then did, on a ring that was much tighter than yours, was just to squash the soft bit of finger just above the ring and thread the end of the floss through the gap. Quick, safe and simple.

    • @richardstewart6900
      @richardstewart6900 Год назад

      Or maybe just push a short length of the floss into the small ring on the safety pin, enough to be able to hold the short end firmly. Then try to feed the ring end of the pin under the finger ring with the floss loop until you can pull the rest through. Some needle-threaders might work or even a fine wire to make a loop.

    Any time you try this or a similar technique to remove a stuck ring it's better to start from near the finger tip and work back since it won't trap fluid or blood in the fingertip. Plus a large eyed darning needle would be a mush better and safer way to get the floss under the ring. 1/4 inch elastic bands work better than floss for this and usually can be bought in the sewing department of stores.

    thank you very much saved me from potentially hurting my self by cutting the ring off with power tools. but i found that the floss was not strong enough for me (kept breaking). i just switched it out with fishing line ring was off within 2 minutes.

    I had no floss so I used Christmas package ribbon. I greased the inside of the ring with coconut oil to glide easily over the ribbon.
    It took a few tries but it worked. I used about 6 inches of ribbon towards my palm and 2 and feet wrapped around my finger.

    Thank you for this. I tried the other version wherein you'll compress starting at your fingertip but its more painful and just didn't work. This one did but you really have to work fast since you can see your tips turning blue. Maybe it just depends on what works best. Thanks again!😻

  • @Wendalore65

    "Right idea, wrong method. Wrapping from the ring outward (from the ring, UP the finger) traps the blood and CAUSES THE FINGER TIP TO SWELL. Instead, start wrapping from a point past the knuckle and work towards the ring. Then use something blunt (not a safety pin) to push the string under the ring. Finally unwind as shown. This way will give you better compression because you're not working against the blood."
    This is a comment that was posted over a year ago that I just found on this thread. I also read the same comment on another site. Also, a British video of a medical professional (it's here on You Tube, also) shows them using some kind of medical elastic thing to wrap the finger, and they start RIGHT ABOVE THE SWOLLEN KNUCKLE, not where the ring is. I think it's worth considering.
    (Also, of course, as many people on this thread say, using a safety pin to push the floss under the ring is not very smart, as it may prick your finger.)

    • @urbanhow2do
      @urbanhow2do  9 лет назад +6

      Wendalore65 Thanks for your comments. Yes a blunt object like a paper clip is the way to go. when I made this video a safety pin was the only thing i had on hand.

    • @Wendalore65
      @Wendalore65 9 лет назад

      urbanhow2do Oh, good. Now my ring is not on my finger. I had to have it cut off, as the large rectangular aquamarine stone set into it would not allow the floss to wind around and around. Another interesting thing in my case is that I still have "trigger finger" from the swelling I got from having that ring on my finger for so long without my realizing that it was way too tight. I had put another ring on the same finger in memory of someone who died in 2010, and it concealed the swelling etc. So now I have to probably go to a hand specialist. Been working in the garden and straining that finger, too, which has not helped. Well, it was a learning experience. The jewelry charged me $10 to cut it off. Snip! and it was off. What a relief. But sad.

    • @annking8156
      @annking8156 8 лет назад

      The first time I tried this was wrapping from the tip of my finger towards the ring like I had seen in a different video, but what happened was it trapped the blood at the ring making it impossible to get the ring off. doing it as shown in the video is the way to go and worked for me. my finger was so purple, but it really didn't hurt at all. definitely wouldn't use a safety pin though. maybe tweezers.

    As a retired emergency doctor, often we cuts this rings with a special tool (that looks like a can opener).
    Or we cut the finger, if the ring was a very expensive one! (Kidding again) ;))

    • @tyandbecky

      If he ever has to have surgery again and his ring is too tight to take off, then no one at the hospital is going to be able to simply slip it off without someone noticing -- very little chance of getting stolen. I've had 10 surgeries since my rings wouldn't come off. Just tell them to wrap them (and your finger) in tape. It's fine.

    Worked like a miracle!!! I had my ring stuck since last night and my knuckle was swollen because I was trying so hard to pull it off with the soap and water/ lotion method. I went to the nurse and she couldn't pull the dang thing off either!! She gave me some ice for the swelling and a pat on the back as I imagined my life with this stupid ring! I'd be a 90 yr old lady telling my grandkids: "YA see this ring? I had it since I was 15"
    Smh

    I saw a video before this one that did the same method but with a ribbon instead of floss. I did that method and it worked but it hurt - now that I see this one I think it may be better because it 'walks' the ring off the finger more slowly so it probably hurts less. Oh well, at least I got it off so I can resize it without having to cut it off!

    It worked but I didn’t have to wrap my finger, just did it while showering and used some soap and moved the floss in a way that the ring started to rotate, it was painless and quick. Couldn’t remove it for like around 8 years.
