QD: After my first marathon an MRI revealed I had developed bone marrow edema in my knee. I was told I needed to reduce my running drastically for 4-6 months to heal. Instead of running the longer distances I prefer, I signed up for a few 5ks last winter-and managed to shave off about a minute and half off my time! Although I was upset to have to run lower weekly mileage, and initially wasn’t excited about revisiting the 5k distance, I ended up enjoying myself a lot-and even came in #2 overall female in one of the races-something I had never imagined was possible.
Hope you'll heal/recover from edema. Congrats to your new running passion in 5km. 🥳💪

@@jaymanrick Thanks. The 9x5km thing made me laugh. I actually just had my 4 month follow up a few weeks ago, and I’m in the clear to train for a May marathon. 🎉 Woohoo.

QOD: My first ultra. It felt like a suicide until I reached the 35th km. I never believed I would reach the end. But when I went over the finish line, it was a clear message that with determination and consistency, you can achieve anything.
hmm, not up to par, a lot of the text overlays are either wrong or from the Surfer review.
Soft EVA compound for the midsole? - other reviews indicate a PEBA-based midsole.
Saucony pro 3 for $120 I need to know where that is.

QD: a few days before a go race last year I did my final workout. A hard uphill effort, and approximately 20 seconds into it my head was full of doubt. “Just stop now, nobody has to know you even tried, this is too hard.” By the time I reached 5 minutes into the 20minute effort, the effort felt great. I went on to PR the segment and give me a lot of confidence pre race!
Hope you are feeling better Seth. I think around 3:35-3:45 you mentioned the midsole is a soft EVA compound. I am pretty sure they added some PEBA in there as well, hence the extra energy return compared to version 1.
QD: My first marathon was rough - hail was falling, it was cold, and rainy. I cramped up half way through and finished in 5 hours 20 minutes. I was bummed at my finish time and quite frankly a little ashamed. Not a lot of people I know run, but when folks found out that I ran a marathon they were awed. They didn't care about my finish time, only that I made it! It motivated a few people to join me on runs and today, several have completed marathons of their own, joined run clubs, and helped me tap into a thriving run community.
the goal is to finish! finishing faster will follow next. hopefully i can finish my first marathon next year!!! keep it up
QOD: Gravel cycling. I started off as a roadie and after putting many miles on my bike on class 4 roads ended up loving this kind of cycling. The events are super fun and the community is awesome. I compare it to the ultra running community. Hope you’re feeling a little better and that rest of your family stays healthy. Mine finished off with a cold so start taking that vitamin C now.
So the shoe is at least an 8 if you remove the price score. 😁

It's 7/24/23 and I bought this shoe for the Outer Banks Marathon in November 2023. It feels great and I will test it in race conditions in a half in September. QOD-In the 8th grade, I was diagnosed with scoliosis and had to wear a steel backtrace that went from under my chin down to my hips. By the end of the first day at school, I lost every friend I thought I had. Pretty bad times. Then in January of that year, the doctor gave me permission to take the brace off for one hour a day. On my first day of freedom, I left my house and ran for a half an hour turned around and came back home. By March, I was using my free hour to run track. That was my introduction to the sport I love.
Seth, at 6:32 in the video you post a $119 price for the Saucony Endorphin Pro 3. I can't find the Pro 3 anywhere for less than $225. Where can one buy it for $119?

Is there a shoe that gets a score of 9’s when it comes to the weight?
QOD: I started running in 2017 just a hobby, joined 5Ks and some 10Ks then a good friend of mine encouraged me to join my first 60K locally here in the Philippines. Without enough and structured training I joined with full excitement. Lucky enough, I finished but I developed an IT Band injury and have no knowledge about it 😢 and thought I could never run again. But that experience helped be become more knowledgeable and mindful about my body and I still love running😊. SJD, we have the same shoe size hope to join the raffle for the hoka rocket x2 😊. More power!
I'm curious if there is any place we could find the score sheet of all shoes from Seth or what is the best score for each type of shoe so far. That will be very useful.

comparison or improvement from the Rocket x? i thought the first iteration was incredible for ultra distance, based on comfort, stability, rocker style that actually helped maintain and improve stride/footstrike/form as fatigue really set in.

Hey Seth, I would always do 1 Long run in my marathon shoes and one speed day in them. So around 30 miles before the marathon. Do you see any issues with that vs your 20 miles that is your rule? Just want to make sure I do not get any hot spots or issues on those longer runs.
Not sure why the price rating isn't higher since it's less expensive or on par with every other racing carbon shoe.

The Rocket X2 sounds right up my alley, but I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the local price (New Zealand). $425 (nzd) to compare with some other similar shoes. Endorphin Elite $400, Adios Pro 3 $400, Endorphin Pro 3 $360, Metaspeed Sky+ $390, Alphafly 2 $420. All just the regular off the shelf prices at my local store. Surprised the Hoka is the most expensive. Interesting how the local prices don't seem to scale directly to the US any longer.
I hope this marks the beginning of Hoka’s second coming, because they got really popular in the early 2010s, but just stagnated from there; large in part due to their refusal to deviate away from standard eva while everyone else was innovating midsoles.
For some reason Hoka shoes dominate the display area at my local Dick’s sports store. And sadly they no longer stock any Saucony shoes at all.

My hokas have worked well for my wider feet, almost everything else has felt far too narrow. Would love some other options
